You didn't even mention the only reason I'm interested in this accessory... Pinball games. All pinball games on the Switch support vertical mode. Which is great because if you're a fan of real pinball, playing with a horizontal screen is the worst. The camera is darting all over the place and it makes it near impossible to plan ahead and line-up your shots.

This needs a follow-up. There are SO many awesome TATE-capable games for switch, and this list barely scratches the surface. Pinball FX3 looks amazing on the switch in vertical orientation, and the Switch shmup collection is deep and wide, offering a ton of different play experiences and visual styles. Keep up the great videos!

I got the Flip Grip through the Kickstarter, and was so pumped to get Downwell on the switch. Definitely the best way to play Downwell and I'd like to see more games utilize the Flip Grip in that way.

@@Boooo It would feel more like an original Game Boy/Color, screen above controls, hands closer together. The aspect ratio is a square, so you would have just as much screen real estate as horizontal (assuming you don't stretch it, hey we've all been there with the GBA). Would be a cool feature for a Game Boy Switch Online app.

If you have a 3D Printer, there are great free builds you can make instead of paying for a FlipGrip. I found one that has worked great for me.

Your advertising is working picked up the Flip Grip love it makes any game that supports so much more fun. Also picked up the Satisfye Elite Bundle which for me anyway is much more comfortable that my Skull & Co. Grip I had been using since launch hopefully all of my accessories will be Switch Pro compatible.

Great video Bob! I think vertical is a cool idea for the switch and should be utilized more but I think most people don’t want to be bothered with the “hassle” of either buying something or flipping a monitor to accommodate it.

I’d love to play visual novels on the Switch vertically with only touch screen controls Tbh I would’ve been okay with it if CAPCOM just straight up put the DS version of their Ace Attorney games with updated graphics into the Switch but vertically. Like, the screen would be halved, with the top half being the top screen and the bottom half being the bottom screen

@@biggayzai No, it's just 4:3 (3:4 in vertical), like the original arcade. You can deform the picture so it fills a 16:9 screen, but it's not the "proper" way to display the game.

Reminds me of Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword for the DS, that whole game is played on the touch screen while holding the DS sideways, with L+R as an additional input since they're easily accessible in that orientation.

If you get homebrew on your switch, you can play DS roms in portrait mode. I don't think there are any 3DS emulators yet, but it's probably just a matter of time

It's cool that the Switch let's you vertically orient games that were made to be played that way. The flip grip is an especially neat peripheral. Until a "killer app" comes out with this play style though, this will all remain a pretty niche corner of the Switch eco system.

It''s not the switch that lets you play it vertically, it's the games themselves adding in a vertical option. Then just a matter of tilting the switch tablet, and yes, the flip grip seems the perfect solution in handheld for this.

As a lover of old school arcades I have to remind you of pinball fx2. You can download it for free with 1 table. Gotta buy the rest of the tables and there are a lot of them. But they are decently priced at usually $10 - $20 a bundle.

The only draw back is the shell blocks the volume button. But I can control volume by long press Home button. So no problem.

You can. Hit the rotate screen button on the main menu and you're in vertical mode. Stern Pinball people are reporting there's a vertical mode on it as well.
