It was my first ever repair on this scale, not the best for sure and I learned my lesson. Thanks alot though Northbridge Fix!

Don't give up, just keep practicing on faulty PCBs you don't need. I learned my lesson same way as you. I was trying to replace HDMI port on PS4 and it ended up with 5 ripped pads. After few months and lots of practice PS4 was working again, because I was able to fix it using jumper wires

That’s not bad at all. I’ve been microsoldering for years and I’ve seen way worse customer attempts. IMO the soldering for the charge port that he did was a little weak. I normally like to put solder balls onto the non visible pads and melt the port into place and then touch up the visible pads.

In fairness, you guys make repairs so interesting that it makes taking it up as a hobby much more appealing. And at least it is an honest customer not a professional repairman that messed it up

Dude, you're f*cking electronical neurosurgeon, you make it look so easy, and as service technician myself for last 14 years (mostly as end user support, basic hardware/software and it outsourcing), i can tell that a lot of people think that it'll be as easy as you present it, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait, there's a catch. That catch is called practice. A SHITTON of practice. My confidence ends somewhere in replacing microUSB ports, reflashing bioses on dead boards and replacing few bigger mosfets, there is no way i'll have balls to go deep in ipad6 or iphone 6 and up. I have microscope, have (i think solid) solid soldering station, have good light, have steady hand, but don't have that confidence. But, i'm trying to practice as much i can. (on laptops i buy referred as "dead" from ebay or so or on really, like really dead boards). I take it more as an hobby than actual focus of my work, but i like to not stand on same spot for a long time, and i love to LEARN more about shit i do. KUDOS m8, you're pretty inspirational man, love your vids, and love that you share your great knowledge. Thanks a lot for that.

I love your vids, that's why I'm here. I think it's weird though that you sell all the stuff to allow people to attempt these sorts of repairs themselves, yet chastise them for attempting it. Even you, a well experienced technician, knocked off a cap in the process. It would have been cool to hear you say some things they did right and some things they did wrong. Good video either way I just think it would have been more fun to hear a good natured critique since the chap is just learning and working on their own device.

I worked for a company once who had a standard $15 upfront inspection fee on all jobs, if customer went ahead with repair it was deducted from bill total at the end. On some items if they were considered useful to us as donors and it was likely to be an uneconomical repair we would explain this to customers and offer waive the fee in return for the item.

Indeed for microsoldering proper flux and solder is paramount. Do not cheap on them. Or face consequences in form of solder does not sticking to components or flowing over all area where it must not flow. Destroyed several connectors because of bad flux :( Fake chips nowadays indeed are problem too.

I've got very good time with this video. One comment is not enough to quote everything I liked from it. But, I wish I could ask you two things, if you allow me. 1 - Is there any "trick" when soldering this micro capacitors? When I try to do like you, seems like my tweezer touch the board before the component itself, and it does not solder properly. 2 - Is there any temp recommended when you do soldering like those caps? I try to keep mine at 350-380 degrees but sometimes it took so much time to melt the solder. Maybe more air? I use 40-50% only because I'm afraid of those components fly to Narnia

I know the guy who sent this board is going to be reading the comments, so I have but one question... WHY??? That board screams inexperience; either that or you're using the wrong tools for the job (which, to me, is still a sign of inexperience). As Alex says, don't practice on boards/devices you care about. Practice on dead boards. At least the missing components were noted in the email as well as all work that was done. Glad this one turned out to be a success.

Hey brother, my sons switch stopped charging. Found out it was usb-c was bad. I sent it to a guy in my town said no problem, he put new usb-c plug on but still don’t power on or get charging symbol. I’m not an expert but from watching your videos I’ve tested a lot of the caps and no problems for m92 or p13. But I do have shorted caps to the left of the usb-c plug by the max777 chip. Also when you flip the motherboard over to the right of the p13 chip there’s a couple caps have shorts. Anyway I can email or send you pics of what I’m talking about and you could quote me about a repair or replacement? Thanks 🙏 also your vids are very inspiring and I’ve learned sooo much!!
