Excellent video once again. Guess it was a 0201 capacitor about 100nf. Unusual for something that small to cause that much heat. I'm making my shopping list for your store. Just need to decide on what I need now eg thermal camera vs new microscope.

Yes but hes using it as a heat spreader so it will conduct heat across the pad instead of melting the plastic piece. Like a big squishy heat spreader.

The thermal pad to block heat confuses me a bit since logically thermal pads are meant to conduct heat. I suppose it's creating a larger thermal mass to slow heat transfer to the plastic? Whatever thermal physics are at play it's a working solution regardless. Will try it next time as I have tried to shield plastics in the past with kapton tape and still resulted in some melting damage.

Because it's very close to the component next to it and so that I can also demonstrate the thermal pads.

I'm curious as to why the switch charging circuit will swap from 12v -> 9v for its charging.... Wouldn't a higher voltage be preferred due to the lower required current? Less loss over the cables, less heat etc etc.

Hey Alex i wonder if.you found this problem multiple times, did you take notes about the cap size? Might be useful if you dont have donor board lying around.

Isn't the thermal pad's function to actually transfer heat? wouldn't be better to use aluminum tape, that reflects it?

Would the replacement cap be necessary for this fix? Or would just a removal of a faulty cap be enough?Sometimes you remove caps from iPad saying they don't need replaced with one from a donor board.
@omprakashmishra7149
@omprakashmishra7149 2 года назад
Thermal pads are more conductive to heat, make good thermal contact. You are not saving your plastic connector with that. Use something which heat resistant. I use simple 3mm thick pieces of crockery.
@NorthridgeFix
@NorthridgeFix 2 года назад
The pads just as with aluminum tape have gaps under. They both act as an insulator even though they conduct. Both Aluminum foil and Thermal pads will not be able to transfer heat to components below because of gaps and poor contact. Just like if you have a warped or wavy heatsink sitting on a CPU, the heatsink won't dissipate heat properly because of poor contact. I'll make a video on this when I have time.

Guys, I purchased a Switch Lite board from Ebay for dirty cheap, but it doesn't have neither the M92 nor BQ24193 chips. Even worse, the components around them are also gone. Seller said those components were ripped from the board, but it should work once those are soldered back on. (yeah, I bought that) After googling around and asking away on forums, I still haven't found a Switch Lite schematics detailing those components (mainly resistors & caps), could anyone please help me out? I'd like to start be ling like Alex and work with repairs as I love those videos he puts out and I know I can do that too. Only I managed to start with the hardest job I guess :/ I did find some schematics for both M92 and BQ, but those are for the regular Switch. Meaning the BQ has more caps on regular Switch and same for M92. I could really use your help.

You got yourself a parts donor board. It's not likely that another shop would pull so many parts from a good board. Something else is probably wrong. Your best bet is to make one out of two.
