I've lost much of my passion in gaming. rarely do I bother playing games any more. However... Nintendo has always been the outlier. Even the Wii U. Mario 3D World and Yoshi's Wooly World were some of the most fun games I've played in a decade. Many more great games, and now the Switch. I may not be a massive gamer any more, but Nintendo is the one thing I still have.
Same here. I'm not really a gamer. I played it the early 90s(sega) and a little bit in the mid 2000s(ps2) but the Nintendo Switch made play video games again. I'm a very casual gamer at best and the switch is perfect for me. You can play old and new games and download to keep and play whenever is so convenient. Thank you Nintendo!!!
Wow just stumbled across this channel and your enthusiasm for games is intoxicating it made me feel happy to be a fellow gamer definitely subscribing and going to watch all your videos xD Its so lovely and refreshing seeing someone happy who enjoys there hobby and not a miserable gitt moaning over little details or hating for peoples different tastes
Dude you are one hell of a guy .. You are so real and I love your stories bc I can relate to your stories .. The happiness you get from games playing alone or with friends bring so much joy . Thank you for your videos buddy .. Hope to meet you one day..
You my friend are honest and true...a true gamer and a person who really loves this just as much as I do. And that resonates in your videos. Never change, never sell out and always be happy :)
I was debating whether to get a ps4 or a switch months ago, I went with the ps4 but seeing your video Johnny has inspired me to go out and get a switch! Only reason I got a ps4 was for the fighting games and exclusives but the switch looks so damn fun to play. Takes me back to the 90s when I was a snes nut lol
Nintendo Switch might already become my favorite system of all time. Nintendo has kept single player games only a thing of beauty! It's been a haven for me as platforming gamer. They haven't left me behind with Always online games that make me play games with other. It's great an all but I just like to sit on the couch and play by myself, on my own time. They still believe in couch co op. I can't believe how many games I've enjoyed at my friends or gf on weekends passing controllers around like old time with my brothers in the 90's!
Absolutely love the raw love of gaming and it's history that I find amazing in your videos. As an older gamer (35 - old in gaming years) I find it fantastic.
While I agree this was a fantastic year for Nintendo, I think people forget how huge/fantastic the SNES’ first year was: Super Mario World, F-Zero, Final Fantasy 2(IV), Super Castlevania IV, Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past, Street Fighter 2, Mario Paint, Ys III Wanderers from Ys, and at the 1 year mark... TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES IV TURTLES IN TIME!
Also Actraiser, Contra 3, Final fight, gradius 3, pilotwings, super ghouls´n ghosts, super r-type, U.N Squadron and those are just some of the more famous games released in the first year.
Alex Catchpole SNES was the most powerful home console when it came out. Switch was an untested hybrid system with less power than current gen. For what it's worth, this is the excuse 3rd parties told themselves as they took a wait-and-see approach to bringing AAA games to Switch. Some tested the waters first like Capcom with Street Fighter. It really is like comparing apples and oranges but it all goes in a great fruit salad by 1st quarter 2019. Thats when I feel like Switch will have enough great 3rd party titles to truly compare it to SNES
Seeing how happy and stoked you are about the Switch is awesome man. The Switch has been an incredibly wonderful surprise and I can not wait to see what else it has in store
I gotta say I love your energy and how passionate you are about video games! I’m brand new to your channel and I’m definitely subscribing right now! 💯 👍🏻😎 🎮
My dude, you literally have the most pure passion for gaming that I've ever seen. The pure joy you get from these games is so apparent. I'm getting my switch in the mail today and I'm hoping for a little bit of that :)
I loved seeing your enthusiasm for the Switch and all of its releases throughout the year, Johnny. It kept my hype up too, and I think it's certainly been the best year one I've experienced with any console.
Man, you brought me to tears at some points sharing your memories ...Seriously, great video! (Just discovered you and really love your love, enthusiasm and passion for this hobby.) DutchGamer Pascal
I do get a little annoyed that no one talks about Mario+rabbids cause people hate rabbids or they think it’ll be bad cause of the rabbids. That game was so good and I would 100% include that if I were talking about the switch. Other than that, this was a great video.
One your best episode's of late, it was lovely to hear you celebrate the Switch. And I'm glad Nintendo had a good year and people are supporting the Switch.
Reggie, wait for the redesign in mid 2019. I know you got a Vita and in that case you can hold out a bit longer. If you want to play those Nintendo exclusives pick up a Wii U for half the price.
Though PlayStation may be my favorite overall gaming brand, I feel I would be remiss to not acknowledge that the Switch may have had the best first year of any console in history. Well done, Nintendo!
UrbanaSupernovA yeah bro the PS4 had a terrible first and second year(almost no new and good games only remasters)but the switch had a good first year mario t odssey, arms, the Legend of zelda and splatoon are just some of the good games it has
UrbanaSupernovA first years don't matter in the long haul look at the PS2 slow start, but ended up being the best console ever sells and game wise (my fav is PS1). PS2 lasted for over a decade. Switch doesn't compare to the Nes or SNES it has a long way to go and I think the switch is a good console.
michaeloffgrid What do you mean "Not even close"? Give examples of something to equal the caliber of BotW, Odyssey, Kart Deluxe, Shovel Knight:Treasure Trove, Splatoon 2, Skyrim and Doom ports, Bayonetta 1 and 2 ports, Sonic Mania, Ultra Street Fighter 2, Xenoblade Chronicle 2, etc. In the FIRST YEAR. I'll wait.
I’m sitting here, listening to you talk about your first experience with Breath of the Wild, and I started getting emotional out of nowhere. My wife is pregnant with our daughter, whom we’re naming Zelda. I cannot wait to have experiences like that with her.
man i never wrote a comment about your videos cuz you have become one of my favorite systems and video games reviewer on RU-vid, gotta say your videos are great and you're an outstanding and knowledgeable reviewer keep up the good work and never change your way, thank you.
I’m 33 haven’t played video games since gears of war 1, and your enthusiasm for video games makes me remember playing Sonic the hedgehog 2 special edition with knuckles sega bundle pack and cried, you seriously just made me cry. I’ve got a fortnite bundle switch and I fuckin love that shit Nintendo didn’t forget it’s just about fun. Respect
You've been slowly selling me on the Switch, mane.... Unrelated: you're a true legend and you are appreciated! Been watching since you started all those years ago and still enjoying the ride. Much love from Texas.
Weird but this video makes me happy. Because his age but he’s having so much fun talking about this and his expressions are giving me life. It’s how I felt when I first got into gaming
There’s something special about seeing someone dive into a product they love I share your enthusiasm with this product, I own a pc and to be honest my switch has taken over
Had it since day one. 36 years old and my brother and I camped for one. It was freezing cold and even snowed, and I was thinking, "I'm too young for this shit!" BUT it was worth it! I've had every Nintendo from the beginning with the NES w/Power Pad, and I'll continue to support them because of how much fun I've had over the years.
I also was sceptical about it. I felt it was going to fail and become collectable. But I still bought it on day one. I love it! I am quite pleased oh how great it has turned out.
That story about the girl playing the switch is exactly what video games are all about and one of the reasons I’m going to get a switch this season . With all the gaming memories I have in my 23 years , nothing stands out more to me than when my mom bought me and my brother the GameCube with Mario Kart as kids . The 3 of us played that game all day . Nintendo is a master of making games that remind us its not about the graphics or achievements but the simple enjoyment of playing a video game and leaving reality . Even if for a few moments .
After being skeptical for the entire first year, I got one during Christmas and I don't regret getting the switch. I have bought some many games and spend alot of time on it. I'm glad I took a chance on this system.
I was finishing college last year- could not afford. Now I'm working overtime so that I can afford to catch up with this amazing console/game collection LONG LIVE NINTENDO!
That's the magic. Watching both my 7 years olds play Zelda Breath of the Wild is special ... I'm sitting there thinking that's me and my brother 20 years ago ...
Really great video man! I love how you added the subtle music in the background relevant to what you were showing. Love your enthusiasm as always too, keep up the good work!
That Mario song at the beginning is one of my memories. Never will forget the first time stepping into the Cascade Kingdom and listening to that. Such a magical game, and Magical machine.
Man you have some awesome friends. And your right for me this consol is special because this was my nieces first Zelda game and she Loved it and I loved seeing her experience the magic of this franchise I have known for 20 years.
The combat system was really slow and clunky. World exploration rewards were limited to those horrendous Blade powers. The blades themselves were a gatchapon lootbox nightmare, I didn't even have half of the rare blades by the end of the game. The humor was atrocious and relied on anime tropes, which in itself isn't bad, except that these are anime tropes that have been done better elsewhere. Like, if I see one more fantasy game with a chuuni character in it, I'm going to die. There were moments when things were really enjoyable, the story got better in the middle. But for the most part, I really regret putting as much time into it as I did. Beating it was not worth the trouble IMO.
I discovered your channel a short time ago and I'm glad I did! It's evident that you love videogames and you transfer that love through the screen. Your experience with Zelda BOTW reminds me my own experience the day the console and game released. I was a university student too tired and poor to justify buying a console but when I saw the Switch and Zelda I did what I had to do to be able to get it. I don't remember the last time I have been so exciting for something. Then, Zelda was a truly unbeliavable journey and it also became my favourite game of all time. It collects all the things I wanted in a videogame: wild beautiful scenery, freedom, exploration, discovery, secrets, a sense of journey and adventure, peaceful and beautiful places where you can just hear the sound of the wind and nature but also intense fights an dark places. It's just amazing. I'm so glad I bought this console and I'm so excited to see what big titles will come next.
Honestly I was part of the Nintendo Switch skepticals at first. Until I received one for Xmas with Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW....I was simply BLOWN AWAY. Wether it being docked or in handhel;d,this machine was blowing my mind away. The first year of the Nintendo Switch was seriously great,I mean we had a Zelda and a Mario game! What else could you ask for ? Now I Am super excited for Kirby in the middle of the month and I cannot wait to see what Big N got planned for 2018! cheers to ya'll fellow gamers!
Ryuzaki Morgoth No i'm serious. Dude that's more then a $400 Xmas present. How rich can your parents be? My familly is poor as shit so i got a nice chocolate bar.
Oh shit mate....So sorry to hear this.. Also believe it or not,my mother is far from being rich, she put it on credit even though she was in debt to get this to me. And I Am not a child, but I cannot work, stuck on wellfare atm(wich I'm hoping to change soon) but I helped her with all the money I had afterwards to help her get off those debts..
Am going to Japan in June/July and have already decided to buy a Switch and tons of games when I get back. The NES was the first console I ever bought, in high school; got a part time job, put it on lay-buy at K-Mart, and paid $50 a week for three weeks. Also have the New 3DS XL. Will be great to continue my Nintendo journey. I love my PC and PS4 Pro but I've missed the types of games Nintendo create.
Great video! I agree, the Switch had an awesome first year. I have a big pile of games already and I can't wait for the new games coming out this year and beyond.
This system brought me back to current gaming, my last new home console was the 64 but I never stopped slowly collecting for it, and the NES/SNES. They knocked it out of the park conceptually and I can overlook the issues it's had because I can see where this is going. The portability is what makes the switch, the moments shared that otherwise would never have happened. I.E, I recently busted out my switch at a family get together well past midnight and got to play Mario Kart with my little brother. It's all about in person co-op and it's brought back my ten year old self's "heart of a gamer." So excited to look back on years to come!
You know a game for the Nintendo switch I was completely and utterly floored by which is turning out to be one of my favorite games since I just got my switch . Voez a freaking rhythm game and I never Play Rhythm games at all but I am so addicted to this game its a work of art. Congratulations Nintendo I'm officially back
Our switch will show up tomorrow! I really haven't played video games much at all since the N64! Looking forward to reliving my youth. I've been missing couch coop for a looooong time and glad to see Nintendo sticking with it. Nice review man, made me feel good about my purchase. First up, Mario Kart of course!
As an older gamer i don't get a chance to sit infront of a tv for hours playing a console, the swith though is great because i can just pick it up anytime and play something while for a bit and just put it back down. I remember when hand held gaming devices were more for kids and the adults stuck to PCs and Consoles because they were more expensive to own. now consoles are more for younger people and handheld caters more for the older crowd. When i go into a game store, the switch section is full of parents looking at the latest games.
I want that Xenoblade 2 box, SO bad. EDIT: Despite seeing the little tidbits of you in awe at the Switch unboxing, as soon as you proceeded talking of the young one playing Breath of the Wild, I started smiling immensely. It's like a very poetic handing off of the older Nintendo generation to the new one, in a sense, but still being able to play together, haha. Don't mind me. Just loving this. Thanks for the upload. I'm surprised I didn't subscribe despite watching your Ys uploads. Well, just letting you know I fixed that!
Favorite games of the switch so far: Zelda, Disagia 5, Mario Cart, Splatoon, and Mario odysseys. The eshop games I can't stop playing Gunvolt, and Golf story. I didn't get a WIIU, but I sure enjoyed the switch so far.
hey johnny, can you recommend any good switch channels? just picked up my switch today and bought into the breach, stardew valley and tales of vesperia. into the breach is really fun/ addictive, a classic easy to pickup hard to master strategy game. Love your channel man, by far and away my fave channel on the tube. keep bringing us good vids and vibes man
also you have massively got me into old anime haha. nearly finished cowboy bebop at the minute, but finding alot of the others hard to find for sale or stream (legally), might have to get on some bootleg streaming sites
I've bought a switch and haven't gamed since the original x box. It's amazing, splatoon 2 is so much fun!! With all the bad news currently in the world it's so good to watch a 40 year old man (I'm not far behind) become so happy about video games.
Another awesome video Johnny. The Switch is the console that us gamers needed. Something new, unique, and simple. And probably the best launch year for a system ever.
Everybody did a video to talk about the Switch first year, but of course you had to do it because your opinion will always be relevant. I have all portable consoles from Nintendo and as soon as the console gets a price cut here in Brazil I'll jump in as well.
Awesome video and it's amazing how you can us feel nostalgic about a system and games that are only a year old...or less! This was the system that got me back into gaming and inspired me to be a RU-vidr. Thanks for the upload!
Man has it been 1 year already? i only got mine a few months ago so doesnt feel that long to me haha :D i do remember being bummed out that i couldnt get one at release though :D
My enthusiasm for video games has been lost completely over recent years. nothing feels fun anymore. Gonna buy a switch next week and hopefully my long lost love for video games will be revived :) Great video!!
2017 was a great year for video games, several of which made me feel like a kid again. I grew up a huge fan of Sonic and Resident Evil, so Sonic Mania and Resident Evil Biohazard blew my mind. Not having played many Zelda games before, I did not know what to expect from Breath of the Wild, but it surpassed all my expectations. The Switch is just amazing console and I have not spent this much money on video games since I had my Saturn. Excited to see what the future holds for Nintendo, the switch and video games in general.
My wife is excited for her Nintendo switch. I am more of a Sony kid and yet I'm very much aware that Nintendo makes games that are really fun to play. My wife loves games that are relaxing and fun to play. And when she saw Switch she fell in love with it and has been eyeing the console for quite some time. But since we have a PS4 Pro she never really pushed me to buying one because she has Crash and is now waiting for Spyro. Those are the kinds of games she loves... and now that Crash is out for Nintendo, I have decided after watching your video to finally bite the bullet and buy my wife a Switch. After all i have memories of Zelda and Mario and Metroid games as well. I can feel excitement inside me too as the days get closer and closer. My money's on Nintendo right now lol and watching Nintendo games playthrough make my heart feel warmer. I find myself losing sleep counting the days. And that's coming from a Sony Fan lmaooo good job Nintendo
Nice video! Im playing Dragon Quest Builders on my Switch right now. Never thought i would buy it but i was kinda suprised by the demo - it has a nice and relaxing feeling to it without being too serious. Its nice after a long day at work.
@HappyConsoleGamer you talking about the 5 year girl playing Zelda. That's what it was for me. I played Zelda the whole way through with my daughter. When she was in Pre-K I couldn't wait until she got home from school and we would play the game together. Not only was it a great game but it was one of the best gaming experiences of my adult life watching my daughter discover new things in the world of Zelda!!!!!!!!
Have not played a system or had as much fun as the Switch since the Super Nintendo. This first year has been phenomenal and been so much fun. I would recommend anyone who can to get one. If you love videogames in all their variety you will love this system.
I stopped playing Nintendo games from the DS...and i never had the nintendo 64 console either....also never played Zeda games ever...i decided to buy the Switch out of curiosity with Mario Kart because i alwais loved that game back in the day...still happy ever since! I never felt this amazed by a console since the ps1 and i tried Zelda too...it was amazing. Totally different experience from cod games and such from the other consoles. This is definitely a console worth buying.
I said from the first trailer of the console it's actual innovation in gaming and not just "more better graphics" it's actual innovation. Yes I didn't get 1 on launch, but that was due to the lack of launch titles for me personally, got 1 for christmas and can't wait to see what comes next
I have the Ps4 but the Switch is my number 1 system because of the variety games that you can portability. People who complain about it don't own one. It's just hands down my favorite console of all time.
The cardboard accessories that turn this system into actual toys/ peripherals for the games is a huge selling point for me. I'm gonna get it so my daughter can play as well
I was away from Nintendo since the GameCube and the Switch brought me back . And I got to say this machine is my favorite console amazing amazing amazing I can play home only when my kids are sleeping. But I can play away at my jobs in the break and it’s amazing since the 5th gen I didn’t felt myself as a gamer and the switch brought that feel back . Sorry for my bad English 😊
I'm still debating this with myself, but I'd argue that 2017 was the single most important (launch) year in Nintendo's history. Yes, maybe even more important than the legendary NES' years (1983 for Japan, '85 for NA or '86 for Europe). And it's probably the best launch year in console gaming history overall, only being competed against by maybe the Dreamcast's launch year, and that's about it. Definitely, and objectively, 2017 was an absolute spectacle for Nintendo (and video gaming).
Man I completed Mario 100%, had so much fun, and many emotional moments. My girlfriend played the shit out of Zelda, and she never touched a game before in her life! Playing Splatoon 2 and Doom at the moment and I want to buy Arms soon. Thanks for the video its always nice to see your passion for Nintendo and video games in general. ^^
Playing Mario Odyssey made me feel like a kid again, just like playing Mario 64 for the first time. It's been a very long time since I've experienced this kind of excitement for a console.
