The SNES is my favorite console. It was the 1st console I owned and had so many 10/10 games that molded my childhood (Super Mario World, Killer Instinct, DKC 1 and 2, Yoshi's Island and, my all time favorite, Final Fantasy 6).

I'm close to agreeing with you. It really did have so many good games, FFII, FF3, or final fantasy IV and VI as everyone would know them now. Chrono trigger, Breath of fire 1 and 2, a link to the past and so many other good ones. I almost can say playstation 2 just because of how incredible FF X was when it first came out.I think the switch is the current best console though.

Saturn. I had most of the heavy hitters. It broke my heart utterly to sell it off during our recession, and while I bitterly resent having to do it, it kept my children fed while I was out of work. I'd do anything to have it all back.

I'm glad johnny explained his reasons for picking the Switch. Most people on YT don't come off real and genuine with explaining their best console ever (or pretty much anything else in general), this guy does. It's not my all-timer, but is THE best console of this generation, hands down. But for my favorite console of all time, it's the NES. Just the memories alone from playing it's games, and many still going franchises started on this console. The moment me and my sister got Super Mario Bros. 3 for christmas, that was an all-time moment in my childhood. The console is still remembered fondly in many merchandise! IMO it also refined the music in video games. So many instantly recognizable tunes.

It depends if you care or not about being able to play a good version of some games. And also how much playing online matters. The quality of online games on switch is abysmal, and the third party games are the worst versions out there.

IMO saying the Switch is the best console because you can play so many of the classic gems, particularly PS1 and PS2 era games, is just an argument that those were the actually best consoles. But, i might be biased, because although i have great memories from the NES and SNES days nothing comes close to how happy, excited and amazed and enjoyment the PS one and PS2 brought me. FF VII, for example, was such a rollercoaster of emotions, to this day i get emotional when i hear FF VII soundtrack. That game made me cry, laugh and think.

I'd have to go with the PS2 as my favorite console of all time. Being fully backwards compatible with the PS1, as well as host to some of my all time favorite games, AND it was a DVD player?!? The thing was an absolute must have, and mine has seen literally thousands of hours of use. The Switch is definitely my favorite modern system, and if the eventual Switch successor is backwards compatible THAT system will certainly wind up in the top spot.

The PS VITA post mortem has been my biggest source of joy. I discovered so many games and there is not a lot of crap to filter out, almost any second hand game I bought was a game good enough to be finished. After that I installed the CFW that enabled me to play PSP games and PS1 through PSP games and this has been how I rediscovered all my collection of older portable and PS1 games. This thing is so small (the slim version) I can actually pocket in and out of the bus which I've done for almost 4 years now. Sony loosing the portable race has made me actually sad seeing how much I love this one!

Nintendo Switch without question is my favorite console of all time. It’s insane for all the rpgs, all the fighting games, the bullet hells, the plethora of arcade and retro games, the insane number of indies, and awesome new games from Nintendo! That’s not even taking about how much potential the hardware itself had when it first came out, and still has. There is so much you can already do with the system that people either don’t know about, or don’t care for, but is all there none the less. HD rumble is awesome when utilized right, Labo was a fun distraction and neat for DIY projects, it has an underutilized or motion camera and so many different style controllers and ways to play for almost everyone. Sure it has its problems like Joycon drift and it not having a ton of power, but you can’t ignore all of the cool things you can do with this small console!

I know I'll be in the minority for sure when I say that PlayStation 3 is my favourite platform. The promise that it held in its commitment to being the ultimate multimedia device actually came to pass. Ken Kutaragi had a vision for what the HD future of entertainment could be in the living room and banked on many features that were so far ahead at the time of its reveal. That's not even to mention the games that came to define our present era. The ascension of From Software in 09 and 11 being arguably a pivotal step in cementing the challenging, online, action RPG genre as a gameplay template that is the gift that keeps on giving. The fact that even jailbroken ps3 can enjoy the legacy of the first two PlayStation consoles and some PSP games. All that and It's the last and best device to support analog tv displays and stream content from many different sources also makes it the ultimate CRT companion that I wouldn't want to be without. There's just not enough words to describe how important I feel the ps3 is and remains to be even as we see the industry advance and adopt all the things (like blu-ray, wifi, internal HDD) that were right there even with the launch of PS3.

I agree but more on the 20/60GB launch PS3s because they had full PS2 hardware, 4 usbs and CF card readers. It's literally the ultimate entertainment machine with over 10,000 (+ over 1000 exclusives) games ranging from PS1, PS2, PS3 and a good chunk of the PSP library while also having full music CD, DVD and Bluray movie support. All this displayed through a simple, HDMI cable on the back of the console, no weird adapters or converters are needed to make it work on modern displays. PS1, PS2 and PSP games look the best on it thanks to smoothing and slight upscale features through HDMI signal. Also, with CFW you can run PS1 and PS2 discs without region locks so, PAL/NTSC/NTSC-J discs will work. My only 2 criticisms is that the console is quite loud and sadly you can only have a 1TB internal hard drive.

The N64 is my favorite as it is the ultimate party machine for local multiplayer and it will probably never get beat in that category since local multiplayer tends to not be a priority to a lot of developers anymore. Many of my greatest gaming memories were from playing N64 games like GoldenEye 007, Mario Kart 64, and No Mercy (just to name a few of many) with friends. Still to this day, whenever my friends and I can get together under one roof, the N64 still always gets powered up. The N64 also provided me with great single player experiences as well as games like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time were revolutionary gaming experiences that changed the industry and had a huge impact on me. I can still remember my first experience playing those games and the feeling of amazement that I had during it like it was yesterday. And whenever I replay them, all of those great feelings come back.

Like, what other console had frikkin' Decap Attack, Rocket Knight Adventures & Splatterhouse 2? ;) The Genesis soundchip was also outstanding when a talented composer from Japan got behind it. Shining Force II says hi ;) However, music was often bastarized by NA dev's, almost always. I swear, many genesis tracks sounded like they were conjured from the depths of hell from satan himself haha. When you hear a female character Scream in a genesis game, it's sounds llke they're drowning in a sea of electricity. lol The Soundchip worked wonders for horror games, moody and mystic atmosphere and hit hard for dance based tunes or electronic music.

I can easily see why Switch would be somebodies favorite, especially if they're knee deep in hand held gaming. It totally eclipses the N64, Gamecube & Wii U imo... I think if Nintendo can either squeeze in a new Wave Race or F-Zero, a 3D Donkey Kong, another Super Mario Platformer, bring over that rumored Golden Eye 007 N64 HD remaster, GameBoy & GBA Online, maybe Yoshi's Whooly World Deluxe to rinse the nasty taste Crafted World left. lol and a handful of other suprises(StarTropics remake anyone?) before their next console arrives either in late 2023 or Q1 2024, I'll be far more content. I wish i could get into portable gaming again, but i only enjoy it when it comes to older retro games. Like Arcade Archives stuff, SegaAges and retro compilations There's no way I'd play something like Breath of the Wild, Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Oydssey etc on a 7" Oled handheld display when i can play it on a 65" QD-OLED with a Pro Controller sitting comfortable in my living room with something like a Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar & Subwoofer. :D

Dreamcast had one of the greatest launches in gaming history, trickling weeks just after Summer of 1999. Power Stone, Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, House of the Dead 2, Blue Stinger etc. It kills me knowing that it lasted only 2 years in NA, if it would of gotten at LEAST a 5 year life span, it's library would of been absolutely insane and would probably eclipse the Sega Genesis's As is, Sega's poor buisness practices & the PS2 Hype machine and built in DVD player killed it off. I rememeber the PS2 having such a boring lame launch too. Same old boring dualshock controller, ugly console design, most of the launch games ran at 30fps, and had muted ugly drab colors. @@quatjohn4375 People would usually defend the Dualshock 2 and say, "If it aint' broke dont fix it" except it was always broke in my eyes, the DS2 had the exact same loosey goosey & slippery analog sticks as the DS1 controller. the R3 & L3 analog buttons felt awkward, and slapping a black paint job on it actually made it look less fun. I typically hate 'all black' video game consoles. I like a bit of color, and the Dreamcast had that it in spades. Even though the Dreamcast controller had only one analog stick and just two shoulder buttons, it still felt more next gen than the DS2, simply because it was different and had a unique design, plus the inclusion of the VMU was really cool at the time. Dreamcast was innovative, a head of it's time and brought the Arcade in our homes. Meanwhile, the PS2 felt like i was playing PS1 games with a new lick of paint. The PS1 hands down. An amazing RPG machine that had visuals in FMV that had yet to be seen, and the original Final Fantasy VII FMV impressed me in 2006 when I played it for the first time, while going through the newer PS2 games, and still impresses now. Final Fantasy VIII was my first Final Fantasy, and an amazing achievement in the gaming industry with it's emotional, heartwarming soundtrack, and story that hardly any other RPGs have matched, except for Legend of Dragoon, which is my favorite PS1 RPG of all time. It had the amazing Lunar games, Legend of Legaia, and so many others that defined the machine! EDIT: The Switch is a close second with the portability factor! I can play the old Doom games, FVII, FVIII, and a ton of new RPGs, and the re-release of Shin Megami Tensei III on the go! I think both of them are almost just as good IMO!

@@whois96 Agreed. There is no one console that is the best at everything. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses. So, it really comes down to what things you value most in a console. For me, the thing that I value most is playing local multiplayer with friends and the N64 is arguably the best ever at that so that makes it the best to me. Whereas someone that most values JRPGs probably doesn’t view the N64 as highly as me since it was weak in that area.

FF7-9, RE 1-3, silent hill, parasite eve, xenogears, alundra, Bushido blade, persona, metal gear solid, lunar, all of the classic RPGs. It brings me back to the days of video and game rentals. Games that engrossed me so deeply I would stay inside for days. I totally think the switch is an absolutely great choice and objectively it's better in almost every way. But the PS1 shaped me. I Agree. Heres a very long comment ranting about why I love the Switch: Basic Reading Ability and Patience Lvl 3. Required to Read Comment. Rated S for Some people. I grew up in the NES days, I'm 33 now. I've played most major consoles from the N64 and Dreamcast and PS1/PS2/etc, Xbox/Xbox One/etc. as well as the handhelds from the OG Gameboy to the GBA, GBA SP1, GBA SP2 Backlit, DS, DS Lite, 3DS, New 3DS, PSP, PS Vita, and many more systems but I think you get the point. The Switch is my favorite console of all times despite of and partially because of its limitations. Seeing how the Steam Deck and other handheld gaming consoles are coming out is really cool; I like them. Yet at the same time seeing how these power house handhelds are not as streamlined and not quite as streamlined yet has given me an all new appreciation for my Switch. Although I've had many consoles the Switch is my default that I play 99% of the time and ALWAYS have a ton to play and giant backlog. I have bought more Switch games, 100s of them, than any other console. I've always been partial to handheld gaming and I love the Vita still yet the Switch is my all time favorite. Ever since it's launch back in 2017 I've been playing the same model and picked up a Switch Lite but sold it, but it has just consistently surprised me. The "impossible ports" are impressive and fun to play, but its really the HUGE library of games from the past & present that make it such a joy. I love playing with friends online and genuinely have had a great experience with NSO compared to the stories I hear. If I could only play one system for the rest of my life at the moment it would be the Switch. I'm ecstatic about it and it's gotten me through many good times and bad times as something to always come back to. As the youngest of 3 brothers I've always been the gamer and my brothers lapsed and stopped playing for a while. Surprisingly my 40 year old brother got a Switch and plays it as much or more than I do and my other brother also plays quite a bit. The best part of all is the couch co-op with friends and family get togethers and also getting on FaceTime and playing with my brothers to catch up. The Switch has kept my brothers and I connected even though we live far apart and that alone I'm grateful for. Also with games like Odyssey and Breath of the Wild I have been blown away and felt this magical sense of childlike wonder I though I would never feel again. Of course the indie scene is amazing and I could never play through them all but I'm having a hell of a time. There's so many games on the Switch if they stopped making them today I could play happily for years without caring about what's coming next. That being said if a Switch PRO model comes out I will most likely be updating day 1 because a bump to the power and quality of the build would be very much appreciated. I know this sounds like a bit of a strange thing but the Switch limitations have a certain charm to me where I am impressed what they can get running on it and what sacrifices they make to get certain games running. It's a bit odd to say and I haven't heard anyone say that but I like to see the tricks developers do to get triple A games on Switch. Every time I think I've seen the best graphics the Switch has to offer from BotW to Astral Chain to Monster Hunter Rise and now Xenoblade Chronicles 3 I am just blown away. I could rant about this for a very long time but this comment is too long already. Maybe I'll make a video if I get over my camera shyness and can get all these thoughts together. During the last 2 years since the lockdowns in 2020 I really just solidified that the Switch is the GOAT of all consoles.

My favourite system will always be the PlayStation 2. Despite being the system I primarily grew up with, I also think it represents a moment of unrivaled creativity and experimentation within the industry. From AAA games like Final Fantasy X and the Grand Theft Auto trilogy to smaller Japanese projects like Killer7 and Okami, it really felt like every studio was putting their all into taking advantage of the system's admittedly restricted hardware at the time. Almost every genre thrived on there, and I'm still finding games I missed when I was younger that I'm going back and experiencing for the first time and loving, like the Xenosaga series. To me, when people say nowadays "It plays like a PS2 game", that's the biggest compliment you can give a game, because those games prioritized mechanics and gameplay over presentation and storytelling, and even then they still did those well.

On the contrary i believe that's when things started getting very stall corporate and formulaic. The PS2 library is mostly not so great follow ups to better PS1 games. A few games like GTA or Lingdom Hearts stood up but they aged poorly. Few of these sequels lived up to the original. Maybe Metal Gear 3 and Silent Hill 2. What the PS2 has the most is quantity. PlayStation 3 is a much better console in comparison. PlayStation 2 May have had an extensive library of games but there were only an ample amount of titles which actually stood out. Otherwise the library feels stale because mostly games were arcade, sports and movie tie-ins. Quiet a few games felt similar too and that was the issue with the games which were being released on that console during that time. Obviously Rockstar Games left a major impact along with quiet a few Japanese Titles but otherwise it was indeed a not so impressive generation. Don’t mind my comment, I am not criticizing you or otherwise trying to make you change your opinion. I look at my GameCube collection, my favorite console, and see all the cool spine art and just feel happy to have it. It has now been replaced by the switch with its outstanding library of games new and old as well as portability which is a huge part of the appeal. Its only significant drawback are the crappy joycons but fortunately 3rd party’s have provided good options.

I find the Switch library to be VASTLY overrated. It doesn't have the depth of the PS2 or the heights of the PS1. To each their own though

@Mr. NoName A few major complaints of mine is the fact that they went away from the virtual console and locked so many legacy games behind a subscription. The first party games haven't been great imo. I know I'm in the minority but they've made one great Zelda game and one very good Mario game. Metroid Dread I haven't played yet but I haven't heard a single person say it was as good as Super Metroid or Metroid Prime. Just seems overall pretty lackluster. A bunch of games that I would give 7s or 8s with hardly any real standouts

My favorite console of all time always gets tied between SNES and Playstation. Both of those machines are just absolutely chock full of amazing, 10/10 games in their respective libraries. I can't choose between them.

My favorite may have to be the PS4. Before Covid, I wouldn't really game as much. But I spent so much time on this machine over the last few years playing Yakuza 0 through 6, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 1, and I love the exclusives like God of War 2018 and God of War 3 (one of my fav games of all time) remastered for it. Its my main entertainment console. Though I will say, I love being able to roam about the house and play the Switch anywhere too!

Yep 100% agree! The Switch is absolutely fantastic! Tons of great games are on it from both 1st and 3rd party!

The Sega Saturn is my favorite. It’s the first one I bought with my own money, saved up for months to afford it. And it still really annoys me that Sega stopped supporting it in the USA after such a short period of time. It lasted longer in Japan.

Same here! There were less than two years of support remaining for the Saturn by the time I got it, but I loved every minute with that system.

The Saturn is my all time favorite for so many reasons. The time it was released next to other consoles really made it stand out. I feel very fortunate to have picked up so many Saturn games at retail that later turned out to be ground breaking. The artwork, the thick color manuals, the untapped potential of the cartridge slot, and so many other things push it to the top of my list in 2022!

I echo pretty much everything you've said here. The Switch has also become my favorite console. I also love collecting the cartridges, they're just more fun to collect than disks are to me for some reason.

The PS2. I don't think a system could ever come close even if they tried. Fully backwards compatible, RPG central, DVD/CD player, over 1000 NA games made. Everyone had one. Onimusha. Resident Evil. Final Fantasy. Shinobi. God of War. Devil May Cry. Contra SS/Neo. Anime based games. GTA. Every game for the PS2 just screamed early 2000s. Martial arts games like Rise to Honor and Path of Neo. Good licensed movie games like Batman Begins and Spiderman 2. It was just a better time where everyone had a PS2 and everyone loved it.

I think the one that had the biggest impact on me was the SNES. I remember playing so many great games, kirby super star, super punch out, the final fantasies, chrono trigger, mortal kombats, etc etc. I was born in 92 but my mother who is also a gamer started me on the atari and went on from there. Im glad she did that as i feel i appreciate how the games have evolved more. If it wasnt the SNES id have to go with the N64 because thats the first time i played video games with friends. Duke nukem, goldeneye, mario party and kart and diddy kong racing. Man im getting so nostalgic typing this!! Thanks for all the videos i always look forward to the Sunday releases with my coffee!!!!

I have been saying for some time that the Switch is my evergreen system. Further I think that it will be the last cartridge console. Thereby making it my favorite of all time. Great video!

I agree 100% with you. The fact that you can play past and present games in a portable way amazed me. This console, together with xbox one (mainly because the huge library of the game pass), shows that this generation is the best one of all time

Fantastic energy like always. The SNES was always my favorite, but you may have convinced me to re-evaluate that stance. I sold off my collection last March and continue to collect for Switch, PS4 and 5 and Xbox One and X. The Switch is a fun console to collect for.

It’s gotta be the Switch. The Switch has it all. Every genre is represented, and much like you said it is the perfect marriage of past and present. From first party titles to indie games to everything in between, the Switch has by far delivered more than any other Nintendo system. Ever. It’s legend status will go down in the history books and the MOST important feature the switch 2 needs to have is backwards compatibility.
