So, let me get this straight: this is a newer car than the Model 3. Its aimed as competition against the Model 3. ... How in the world was Nio able to create a car that, in most regards, is inferior to the Model 3 yet costs MORE? Less storage capacity, less storage options, less room for anyone inside - in a car thats slightly BIGGER than the Model 3. Less range, less charging power - despite being newer and having the option for a larger battery. The assistance systems are annoying and at times don't really work properly (Nomi). ... How the f*** does this car not get trashed in all those "reviews", especially when comparing it to its main opponent? And we're not even talking about this ET5 going up against the NEW Model 3 which might hit the road soon. ... How was Nio able to drop the ball THIS hard here? I'm all for new cars and proper challengers to Tesla... but come on, am I the only one who sees all those flaws? And don't get me started on the lazily plopped-on cameras on the roof. Damn Nio.
In China this car is super popular with young career women so we are talking 5 foot tall Chinese gals. Average height dudes will be fine but it is no good for you tall guys. PS Colour you did not have to show is the pink (a very white-ish pink not the pink of Barbie) that is the popular seller with wealth-off Chinese young ladies. The pink ET5 has a motto in China "The First Light Kiss".

Chinese automakers will flood the markets soon. Good design and better execution than the American and the European manufacturers. Possibly more affordable too. Looking forward.
This car looks better than its competitors. Cutting edge looks and good proportions. Nobody should be underestimating Chinese auto companies. They are going all out on EVs and tech and have fewer legacy issues to manage. The global assault of these companies is just getting started…
bought this car last year and it was delivered two months ago. I'm a 181 cm Chinese guy and the front seat do makes me feel that I'm sitting in a SUV. In order to do the battery swamp ET5 sacrificed the adjustment range of the chair in the driving position.. The outlooking and interior design is superb and it is also easy to drive. This is why I chose this over Model Y performance. btw I am totally agree with the zero animal cruelty proposal and chose the artificial leather instead of Nappa. Don't know if it really helps though. and environment-wise and battery swamp service is the best way to collect and dispose the old battery in a way that pollutes the environment at minimum. Thanks Thomas for your review!
@@DS-pk4eh It was around 5 to -10 degrees in Beijing in Feb and the AC was always setting on 23 ℃. The average consumption is around 15-18kWh on urban roads and 19-21kWh on highway. But please considerate that I was always on sport mode so the consumption might be a little bit higher than the modest driving mode, Although there are plenty of battery swamp stations here in China and I haven't charged the car even once since I bought it, in Europe you might have to take the consumption into consideration.
@@violawasser2932 Thank you. I drive Tesla M3 Long Range, rarely using AC, on average I am at 14.2kWh. I think that NIO could be on the same level or close in same conditions.
I think Nio really needs to prioritize praticality more to appeal to a larger audience. The ET7 has a small boot, ET5 seating position is to high. I would skip this car because of the seating position and I think many others would too.
Wow Gorgeous car, another level in and out , Bravo to Nio

im a tesla fanboy, and i really want a Model 3, or new model s/x. But i feel like all other el cars looks so mutch beter on the inside, and often outside to, like this one.
@@nevinshajidaniel4958 I think if you don't care about luxury the byd ok but if you want high quality and this is important if you use like a BMW before then you should buy a nio . I all so say that nio tech may be more reliable because for a nio use more money per function than BYD . My self would save up for a Nio than buying a BYD
Gorgeous ! I love the design...remind me a little the Jaguar F-type on some aspect... But the price are totally off now... Tesla are pretty smart about lowering price...the entry level is already more expensive than the model 3 performance here in France....no brainer... If the Nio et5 was the same price it will be a total no brainer...i'll go for the NIO in a heartbeat, gorgeous car.
@@ciybersal9833 in EV market you can't pretend forget Tesla... And ok, maybee NIO feel more premium ( i totally agree with that, like i said berore, i love NIO for me it's the best Chinese EV car maker) but you can't compete in the EV market when you have the Tesla Model 3, 15 000 euros cheaper... And some leather or else can't justify the price gap. The germans brands (and others) are learning this the hard way (Model Y is the best selling car in Europe today...)
But this ET5 is also full option.. so I don’t understand your point? Full option Nio ET5 is in my opinion superior to full option Tesla model 3 (design, quality and after sales experience + the poss to swap to new types of batteries in the (near) future)
@@mrshark0073 as i already say NIO is a great Brand/car maker i love their car but... But u can't ignore Tesla here...they are well based in Europe and have a great opinion in mainstream buyers/people NIO is totally unknown for the mainstream public/buyers, no image, no reputation, no garage here...nothing,. everything to build in Europe. And the cars are more expensive than Tesla...so... normal people will never buy or throw almost 70 000 euros when you have a well implanted and recognized Brand like Tesla (and by the way, the Model 3 performance is 53 990 euros here in France..like i say it's a no brainer agains't the NIO et5 in terms of performance, super charger, garage etc etc..)
I also watched reviews from China, the front seat problem is big as well. If you are tall, you will find it difficult to sit int. Nio has battery pack swap so underneath it is higher than other EVs, ET5 has this problem in particular.
Not only the best EV but also the best car available, I can't wait for NIO to enter the UK, USA & Canada. Battery Swap is the future, NIO is innovation. $NIO
We also have many excellent electric vehicle brands in China, such as BYD, LEAPMOTOR, ZEEKR, 智己, and avatar. We welcome friends from all over the world who love electric vehicles to learn about them and wish everyone the opportunity to buy their favorite electric vehicles
i still remember your review for the peugeot 3008 gt in 2017 😮since then i fell in love with it and i bought one right away the 3008 started this jeans like material trend and now i see it a lot in new luxury cars, thank u Thomas for your amazing work
Great video! Only the range in the cold of 4 degrees, with heating to 20 degrees, reaches 400 kilometers in the small package, (75 kilowatts) this is because of the advanced system of heating the battery. And by the way, in 2024, a special Firefly brand should arrive on the European market, and its price will be 30 thousand euros round, it will be interesting.
Looks great outside, but think Nio could of made the interior more interesting and up market, even Merc A Class is better, and why cannot these cars have a sunroof
Wow, love the front design. Sort of looks like an evolution of the Model 3's front but so much more sleek and modern. It's a real shame the competition has caught up so quickly to Tesla. Now all they're holding onto is the charging infrastructure.
Only in the US where Tesla is able to have its own proprietary charging network. It isn't like Tesla has a particular charging advantage in Europe, and Tesla for sure has ZERO charging advantage in China, and in both those markets Teslas are required to use the same DCFC standard as everyone else.
Helloooo, McFly? Anybody home? Guess the reworked and upgraded Model 3 thats coming doesn't count then. Not that the ET5 beats the CURRENT Model 3; Nio somehow made a car that comes close but is ultimately slightly "less" than the Model 3 - while Nio still dares to ask for more money than the Model 3 currently costs. But just to put this into perspective: Nio wants you to fork over at least 47500 bucks for a an EV without a battery. Aka please pay 6000 bucks more than the cheapest Model 3 costs - which does come with a battery.
I still feel like Tesla is a ways ahead in terms of technology and safety, but that might be me. These Chinese companies, for one, are sure catching up fast though!
@@josephius idk about that, Tesla said Lidar is too costly to use while Nio's come with a Lidar as a standard which is a big upgrade compared to visual cameras. And most Chinese NEV cars top the safety charts. I would say tho that Chinese software lags compared to everyone else, western brands seem to have them on that for sure.
Too many beeps while driving, this would drive you crazy, if it beeps for everything all you do is ignore it which defies the purpose of having a warning beep !!!
I will say there are a plethora of EV reviews and EVs on the market now. There's more talk and advancement of EV cars than the thing that charges them. No govt is even trying to solve the question of how can a James or Patty who lives in a high rise apartment in a big city operate an EV when they park their cars several blocks away on public streets? Sure, suburbs have pretty much been solved. But theres no solutions for cities. Not every parking garage space has sn EV charger and many, many, MANY people park on the street. They want to outlaw petrol but they havent even started to answer the question of how can city folk who dont have a house charge their cars overnight? Nobody wants to revolve their life around a queue for public charging and the amount of time it takes to charge. What's the govt solutions? Public transportation? Yeah, some cities thats doable. Others are a laughing stock because they are designed for cars, not public transport. Those people arw screwed. Cmon, govts. Do something for once. You want thie EV thing to be a reality? Then spend the money to make a true EV infrastructure such that EV chargers are more commonplace than Starbucks and McDonalds combined, 10-fold.
fantastic car alltogether. great performanes, swapping battery ensures that one can hold this vehicle for 15 -20 years. but if they want to sell, they need to go bellow 50K in price
@@autogefuehl Ok thats too bad then sorry to hear that. For me it worked well and also the adjustment of the steering wheel was good. The view out of the rear window was more of a problem.
I like this brand (I also invested speculatively in the stock) and this car, but at 70K euros I would get a BMW i4 and probably save a few thousand. I would get a better car overall and IMO also a better-looking car. But here I am biased since I have owned BMW cars for the past 25 years. NIO need to do something with pricing, because... yes, I would get a NIO over a Tesla even if I had to pay 20% more, like in the case of this ET5, but then AUDI and BMW exist at a similar price point, so for me it would be one of these 2 Germans.
Looks like Taxi cab in the front . 🙄 . Ev has Less dynamic aspects in terms of motion , mechanical etc, as motor don't vary that much, gear box maybe a little maybe not. it's About comfort, range ,looks and convenience aspects .
56.000 euros here for the car (can't see the monthly cost yet), but another 300euros per month for the leased battery? lmao no thank you. 70.000 euros for a brand that might as well leave Europe in 5 years. Too much risk
It's so weird that the EU wants to control every little safety feature, like beeping sounds when you exceed the speed limit, but they seemingly see no problem with giving the masses 2500Kg cars that go 0-100km/h in 3-4 seconds.
