Production quality is indeed top notch. The car itself is just sad. My best bet its the same Valeo electric engine +lg batteries as in other ID cars. Why would anyone want german car when half of it is Korean?

@@hagestad "My best bet its the same Valeo electric engine" It's a new electric motor (80% more power in same size) - Kyle explains it on his "preview" video of the same car. I don't know who designed or made it.

@@hagestad I visited Benimantell in March and it's absolutely stunning, especially the view from all the way at the top of the fortress. Crazy seeing and recognizing the scenery at the start of the video! I just checked and I have a picture where you can see the building that they showcased the cars at haha

Looks like a high-quality car. The interior almost looks Polestar 3-ish, an $85K vehicle. I like the styling, it's not too blob shaped or sloping too much in the rear. Looks like a proper sedan but with a life-gate. Great review as always.

Credit where credit is due... VW have at least listened to customer feedback and, based on the massive improvements for interior quality and, albeit to a lesser extent, the backlit infotainment functions for this new iD.7 saloon, hats off to them...! Great review, Thomas 👍

Back seat is high and looks comfortable, so one doesn't crouch. Unlike many EVs. Good job VW. I also like that they prioritized range, instead of ludicrous acceleration.

This one ticks a lot of boxes for me (size, interior space, practicality, interior quality). Shame about the tesla model 3's interior style (thank god at least here we have a HUD and a small display, not only the big one in the middle). Based on Bjørn Nyland test, the car also looks quite efficient. I'm impressed.

VW seriously hit this one out of the ballpark. Excited for a car that has physical buttons and the refreshed interior like he briefly mentioned. I wish the trunk was a bit less bland looking but 9.9/10. I hope we get a GTX model but I’m very excited to possibly trade in my MK7 GLI and grab one of these in the next 2 or so years.

But honestly, I am quite impressed with this VW. Hope the mileage spec. of 500+ km per charge is accurate... that makes it pretty much at par with gasoline engines. And pleased to hear about going back to physical controls. But was also pleased that the environmental control in this model is so obvious in the display. Great review. Thank you Thomas and team.

@@dragospahontu You could, in perfect conditions. But do you need to? Honestly 500 realistic km, which modern EVs seem to be able to do finally, is plenty for European driving. Bonus is you start every day on a full charge.

@@DominikLH it is enough, but realistically in EVs you use 80% of the battery. You never really charge to 100% because it takes a lot of time.

@@dragospahontu I'd probably charge to 100% at home if I know I'm taking a longer road trip. That gets you lets say around 500 km. And then you can still use the 10-80 range on the road and you have to stop like every 400 km for a quick 30 min charge. That honestly seems fine to me, especially here in Europe. My longest road trip in 10 years of driving was 1100 km (550 one way, 550 the other) in a 68 L Diesel GLC and I had to refuel twice lol.

4,96 m is huge ! Then again, this segment of cars historically suffered from inadequate space at the back seats, so this is a very welcome change and it seems the ID.7 is making good use of all that size

The form is pretty good considering its the raindrop design. More angular = better looking. Interior blown away very very nice, maybe the 2 window buttons... ye but the rest oh boy havent seen such good in a while from VW

A great review Thomas and team. If people can rip themselves out of SUVs it looks like a good option. Definitley still same design language and a litle heavy on the rear but so much better than ID4 ID5. Looking forward to seeing the higher speed review and the confirmed prices.

The liftback deisgn would honestly sale me on it. I like the extra few inches of height on crossovers. However EV crossover lack that do no point. This seems like a looker. I wonder if it is coming to the US

10:45 - I love that it looks like you can use Apple CarPlay (and maybe Android Auto?) in a windowed widget on the car's infotainment. With a screen that big, it feels like a good use of space. Have your CarPlay with your media and mapping and whatnot, while still accessing some vehicle functions that CarPlay doesn't expose. And, if you want to use the built-in navigation in the car, you can have that next to your CarPlay without having to keep jumping back and forth between apps. I wish more car manufacturers would do that!

@@Dreadpirateflappy I guess it depends on the version. My drivers screen is smaller then infotainment screen. There is only information about range. Nothing else. Maybe higher trims with bigger screen have more options

This looks like a fantastic EV, especially for one that is supposed to be more reasonably priced. I too prefer the manual buttons and dials, but you do get used to the electronic controls relatively quickly. Many of those features are often set and not changed often.

Exactly this. People who are constantly whining about the buttons have no idea what they are talking about. They just repeat the same story with "journalists".

I disagree on the buttons, as some settings are much better and safer to set with a proper button while driving. I could manage most of it, if just the steering wheel gets proper buttons, as those are the most important ones. Haptics on wheel should never have been allowed. The other settings are truly not altered that often, so most of it could be somewhat manageable from the screen.

reasonably priced? hmm.. this kind of cars you can get easily before in let say 45k mark (euros), now they are all in 60k+. i really don't know on what planet car markers do live in, but definitely not on planet earth. vw is promising lowering prices next to competition (than it willl have opportunity for names like game changing etc) , but that yet should be seen.

@@izoyt Tesla has dramatically lowered the EV price level. You can get a better car in every way, except interior and ride quality, for less that when the ID7 sells for. Whether you look at Range, Efficiency, Software, Hardware, Infotainment & Sound. And interior quality is subjective, with many deeming the seat comfort of Teslas superior, but with that being said, much more quality materials are being used. Tesla model 3 performance, the highest trim, costs the same as the cheapest ID7, with no extras. That being said, i hope VW lowers the price and brings this great car into a reasonable price point.

@@sebastianorye2702 Big issue with tesla is the QC issues. Also they are taking many decisions that are rather different and objectively worse, such as software controls for almost everything. In a way, the usability of a tesla is even worse than a VW.

It's shaping up to be an awesome car. The range is a big factor for many people when it comes to EVs. If this one can manage 570 km, it's quite good. It's not the claimed 700, but it's good enough. And I also like the design. The side profile kinda reminds me of the Lucid Air

I'm pleasantly surprised by the efficiency. 15.5kw/100km is pretty sweet. The sleeper efficient Chevy Bolt gets around 14.9kW/100km, but in a much much smaller form, smaller wheels and smaller battery. So this car is going to do extremely well. Not a big fan of the cleft lip look at the rear, not sure why they did that. But still excited to see more long range options out there.

Such a refreshing change from the Ioniq 6 which looks cool, for about 15 minutes. That back end...ugh. Love my VW Alltrack, perhaps one day we'll have an EV Version of a small wagon in the USA. One can dream....

Great review and the car looks fantastic in that blue colour. I’m happy to hear about the return of physical buttons in coming generations. Is there any chance that the estate version is enough of a new version to get that? I would love to have this as an estate, if the steering wheel have physical buttons. But those haptics are terrible to control.

I've had Capacitive touch in my VWs for the last 3 years and I absolutely LOVE them! Once you get used to them they work very well. My only complaint which it looks like they fixed was no backlighting on my ID.4 for the touch temperature/volume below the radio.

VW did a good job on this. It certainly doesn't look offensive, and being a sedan with a hatchback style boot makes it practical. How did Mercedes get it so wrong with the EQS in the looks department? The Vision EQS and the production EQS look nothing like each other. No matter how technologically advanced a car is, people will struggle to fall in love with it if it doesn't look good e.g., the W220 S-Class. It just didn't look the part compared to the W222 or even the W140 before it.

It looks very nice, I love a fastback. Interested to see the full station wagon as well. Infotainment and software UI still terrible. Hoping for a nice id2 launch. I need a small to medium hatchback EV to show up in the 30s cost.

Good review, a nice luxury looking car. But the manual telescope driving wheel adjustment is disappointing. This also implies that it may not be able to save the driver profile for the driving wheel. VW needs to fix this and make this electrical so that you can save the setting with driver profiles.

love the interior -The steering wheel / the seats / Vegan Materials / GREAT ..I would like to own this car --just for those attributes, however the exterior looks are good--love the lights externally and internally . AWD would be the one for me, EXCELLENT REVIEW,

At least in all other ID models the driving mode doesn't affect the available power at all. The acceleration pedal only feels a bit different depending on the selected mode to make it easier for the driver to save energy (or waste it). You can have the max acceleration also in the Eco mode. The car will deliver full power when the pedal is kicked down.

I am an EV driver (non-Tesla) - a smallish EV for now but I would love to get an Estate next time. 5 years ago I has a diesel Skoda Superb estate (basically a VW Passat) and that cost me £27,000 with a good spec. Great car with loads of space. The ID7 appears to be a similar car. The problem is it will cost more than double what I paid for the Skoda - there is no way they will sell the ID7 with a reasonable battery/spec for under £60,000. That means its totally out of the question for someone like me (middle income). The lower running costs are not going to get back £30,000+, nowhere near. Sorry VW (and others), until we get cars like this for £30-£35k I won’t be getting a larger EV and will stay with my small car for daily commuting.

Looks great! I’m very interested in seeing the station wagon/estate version, even though I don’t expect that VW plans to bring it to my home market in America. Why do all new electric cars have fixed glass roofs instead of opening roofs?! I hope the upcoming Fisker Ocean is very successful with its opening roof and causes the rest of the industry to rethink this, “Look but don’t touch,” mindset.

They will probably don’t bring estate to US as they don’t want to cannibalize ID4 sales. Which is very stupid because you can’t compare the two. Estate will always be much more efficient and it’s perfect for all mobile technicians etc.

I plan on entering the EV market in the next couple of years. I'm not big on Tesla's. I was eying the Mustang Mach E but after watching this video, I'm going to consider and follow the evolution of the ID7. It looks like a great car!

Well done review! I was please to see that it is a lift back for improved utility. It is a beautiful design from all angles, and the efficiency is impressive. Now......will it be priced under $50k in the US? If it is built here, will it be eligible for the $7500 fed tax credit? When will it hit our shores? Nice content! I have 2 questions: 1. Prices? Do you have any inside information even though they won't launch it on the market before the end of '23? 2. Do you know the ground clearance on ID7? I know we're talking about an electric sedan, however I am well aware of the poor road quality in my country and a good ground clearance makes all the difference for me

Brilliant overview as usual from Autogefühl! Honestly with how well thought out the touchscreen layout is, and the position of the touchscreen itself, I wouldn't even mind it. Seems very responsive and logically thought out. The only things that would be nice are proper buttons on the steering wheel (Although, I assume these capacative buttons are improved from previous iterations) and my only annoyance is the dumb "rear window" capacative button instead of just having 4 window switches. Otherwise if it's quiet and comfortable, and the seat ventilation and massages actually work, the 86kwh version might be a buy for me.

I really like it overall. I only have a few minor quibbles. The slider controls; hope these are at least now backlit? Only two buttons for all four windows. Electronic vent controls and no frunk. But that's it. Nothing more. Overall an excellent vehicle. I would definitely consider the ID.7 for my next car.

We have owned a total of 8 VWs, 2014 Passat TDI 6speed manual, 2015 Golf Sportwagen TDI, 2017 Touareg, 2019 Jetta R Line, 2020 Passat S, 2020 Passat R Line, 2020 Arteon SE with 4 motion and a 2021 Areton SEL R Line with the 2020 Passat Rline and 2021 Arteon in rotation. If the ID 7 can come close to the current range of our Arteon (when in eco mode, we get 35 mpg on the hwy) on an 18.5 gallon tank we will more than likely purchase at least one ID 7
