Been waiting for a Tonfa build! This looks awesome and very excited to try it. I may try to see how lightning or fire enhancements work on this as well works. Thanks for the awesome builds, loving the game so far.

I'll share some tips from my experience with Tonfas so far. For reference I'm currently in the first mission of region Five having cleared all side missions except the once locked behind proficiency - I picked up Odachi as my secondary weapon, stats-wise an awkward pick but gameplay-wise I'm loving it - and currently level 104. For starters I'd highly recommend investing in Sweeping Kick and Focused Strike. The former is really strong versus blocking opponents such as human bosses and the later is a charge attack that does high damage. You can switch stance after Demon Dance and regain additional Ki through Flux II. Another thing to note is that Demon Dance has I-frames so it can be used to dodge. Most of your attacks are very lenient in when you need to input your next attack - Pulverise being a notable exception, it took me quite a while to get dancing in-between Pulverise reliably - allowing you to keep the pressure up up-close through Ki Pulsing. Personally I specced into Ninjutsu a bit more while utilising Water as my main Element and I'm really enjoying it. I run all three Feathers from the Ninjutsu tree, the Feathers do great Ki Damage and almost guarantee you apply a status effect when used normally but when used on enemies when they're out of Ki they do incredible amounts of Elemental Damage. Solo I mainly use them to finish off enemies while in coop I like to start out with them to very quickly apply Confusion. I run both Live Recovery through Water Elemental Damage via my Guardian Spirit and Amrita Absorption. The latter can be rolled onto Chest Protection and since I'm using the Flying Kato's set to boost my Ninjutsu I can use all the extra sustain I can get. Since Tonfas hit so often the create a stream of Amrita healing you a little bit every single time. Shout-out to Storm of Strikes by the way. I really like this ability! It's not particularly good by any means and it replaces Focused Strike - I run Focused on Mid and Storm in Low - which is far more reliable but it feels so good to do. I think it's the scream (Kiai?). The parry also has very satisfying audio feedback in my opinion, the payoff if less good tho.

Tonfa are my favorite. I really enjoyed NG with all these combos and stuff, but happy to have Tonfa gun back in NG+

This was something I was talking on the Discord about, but I've made a similar late-game build with water instead of poison. Using kingo set, Isanagami Guardain Spirit and water-imbued tonfas. I remodeled my tonfas for constitution scaling and pumped it to the max, and used onmyo buffs - steel, protection and barrier talismans to be able to go all out on the offensive without even having to worry about taking hits. Also, I put different elemental arcanas on the demon dance->pulverize for each of the stances so in addition to water I could use another element and cause confusion for extra damage. Though, most enemies died even before I had the chance to do that - only bosses had enough health for confusion, but then also died soon after.

Nice one ....there are so many builds u can do in this game at least i get more understanding how to do it ,,u can immagine what u can do with all green sets even more damage

Some good info in this build, but also some bad info. You don’t want to use poison on a tonfa build, you want to maximize an element, invest 20 points in magic, and use your demon dances combined with other elements to cause confusion. Use poison along with a dex kusa build, but on a tonfa build use magic and elements. Highest damage is with a lightning build. Golden boy + Shin Roku + Ame No Mitori does insane damage and that’s before optimizing. You also get toughness on A which is mandatory. Also, low attack sucks, use mid, mid strong attacks are fast, have good tracking, hurt more, and apply element just as fine. All you need for ki is Ki recovery bonuses (Amrita gauge is a good one). Yes you need 54 stam for golden set, but that’s ok it makes your guns hit a lot harder (you can use them as finishers).

Been waiting for this one, and I'm glad to see I'm already using the build. Only difference is I'm using medium stance mostly and light armor :) do you have any tips on good light armor sets? Flying Kato?

This was my build last game good to see that its get gettin some love all in all good build, wish we got some poison armor sets though :/

If you put Toxic Slime Soul core to third slot of guardian spirit you will put poison more easily on enemy. Thanks for the build

Tonfas bring be back to the days of Ninja Gaiden 2. I loved them in that game and it's the same developers so this has to be a favorite for Team Ninja. Kusarigama is also in Ninja Gaiden 2.

Please do a breakdown of ‘active skills’ and the green nodes in the skill trees that correspond. I can’t seem to figure out exactly how they work. Thanks for all you do.

Out of curiosity, does your secondary weapon matter? Im using a kusarigama as my secondary, mostly cause I'm adding in dex every now and then for ninjutsu/poison shurikens

just wondering how much is a difference going from heavy armor to medium in term of tankiness, was thinking switching from my heavy armor glaive build to tonfa, it seems a lot of fun, but im not that good in thisgame, so getting hit is not unnormal for me.

Are Tonfa easy to use? I used them at the beginning but stopped for another weapon cause I couldn’t think of a good build they would go with esp since I wanted to make a magic build and ninja build. A poison build seems like it’s really good though.

Quick and stupid question probably but how to get poison on the weapon ? Sorry never played nioh before and i'm new and still in the 1st region
