I stole this from a friend's house. He found out, and made me choose between keeping the game or keeping our friendship. Although I miss him sometimes, I regret nothing.
Small Chrisling who steals games? Just ask to borrow, or offer to pay half price used so they make some of their investment back without needing to use eBay
Not A cookie Like seriously you know that many games are in development for 5 or more yeara and are always changing right ? just look at ff15. im sure in the beggining, and even before dark souls was released, the game was something completly different.
Not A cookie Like seriously the game might have been announced 10 years ago but that doesn't mean they were continually working on the game for ten years.
I've been playing the souls type games since Demon's Souls, and Nioh gets a big thumbs up from me. Despite being one of the more accessible offerings in this type of game it's still a lot of fun. It may not be as tough as Dark Souls but the added depth in combat really helps keep it intersting. This game has a lot to offer to both newcomers of the genre and Dark Souls/Bloodborne vets. If you have any interest in this style of game at all I would not recommend passing Nioh up.
3:39 i've never thought much about that feeling when you discover a new boss but it's totally real and it's feels almost like it's own emotion. thank you for pointing out this feeling
I spent this afternoon playing this at a friend's house and I love it. You can see the Souls skeleton and the Ninja Gaiden soul in it. Good main character, excellent setting/ambientation, scary enemies, deep combat mechanics, great challenge, tricky level design. This is what I'm gonna be playing for a really long while, I'm afraid !
Just played ds3 just about to finish up new game+ but nioh had me raging for hours during boss fights first souls like game most likely why but still ds3 few boss fights gave me trouble but no more than few hours there pretty similar in my opinion but don't forget ninja abilities like slow down is filthy
@bombflo1 ya you gotta pace yourself but a strategic build can be tricky to figure out especially the blacksmith for me, but sloth is a onmyo magic cast ability unlocked through learn skills option in menu and the section where it's labeled "onmyo magic' it's the second one down from the top second one in too the right unlocked by completing the way of onmyo: veteran. For a build I just suggest just quality balance it out unlock what you need to use certain gear things like that you'll gain much more health later on you start out very weak make sure too use your cannon fight one on one regular souls shit but your guardian spirit will help so much man just keep around soul crystals use them too refill your guardian ability and stay moving n you should be good in not time I had fun with the game great 20 bucks great lore too . Like id said first like challenging ass game for me took me a while to beat... Git gud
Ok honestly... I think this is it... I think this is the game that's gonna make me buy a PS4... I love my Xbox and I've been with them for years but these exclusives are just killing me
recc That too if you can afford it, although Microsoft changed their advertising to suggest that not all future titles will be play anywhere. Time will tell
The leveling system, enemy and item placement, the risk reward system aswell as level structure are all dark souls. But the combat and character tools are definitely unique. I found the core gameplay is easier and more forgiving than souls but mastering the gameplay as a whole, while not necessary in Nioh, is more difficult than a souls game
Before anyone shouts "Dark Souls clone" The gameplay is a lot more reminiscent of Ninja Gaiden and Onimusha, which makes sense considering it's Team Ninja/ That being said, it's a phenomenal game.
Sorry bro, It's a Souls clone, a damn good one, but it is what it is. Even the director said he drew heavily from the Souls series. You have to be blind not to see the similarities. I for one, think it could be better than Souls after future installments.
Raiyen22 The Inverted Sorry bro but I've played all the souls games Nioh isn't like Dark souls this actually has a clear cut story the Combat system is different plus Nioh Was in development long before the Souls Series there's been other games long before dark souls that The Souls Series has copied
Lmao dunno if u still care, but recordings of games on RU-vid typically appear darker on screen, thats why you often can barely tell wtf is going on in the horror games u might watch
It’s much MUCH brighter than dark souls. I’ve beaten the game and there haven’t been any times that I’ve died because the room was dark and I couldn’t see anything.
Everyone forgets that this is the company that brought us Ninja Gaiden. The original "hard" aRPG game... which by the way, came out four years before Demon Souls was released! Does Nioh take inspiration from the Souls series? Of course it does, Team Ninja said so themselves but let's also not forget that the idea for Nioh started in 2004. So this game is sort of a hybrid. It's kind of like Ninja Gaiden with some Souls influence thrown in there. Everyone just wants to mention Souls when talking about Nioh but it's true ancestor is Ninja Gaiden.
It's challenging for the wrong reasons. All they do is change the numbers for the enemy scaling. It's not even close. Dark Souls was the RIGHT kind of difficult (except for a few bullshit places in DS1 like Tomb of the Giants, New Londo Ruins, and Blighttown.)
@@GiacoC Sekiro is not "hard" it is only hard if you have bad rhythm skills. If you want to be obnoxious you could say it is a Dark Souls inspired game with gitar hero mechanics. Most Bosses have like only one way to beat them. So you have to parry and read your opponent to know when to dodge. I mean yeah it is challanging...for some. For others it is really easy compared to other souls games. I get why the community is split about it, but that is because some just have worse motoric skills for games or don't take the time to improve theirs.
Explain to me how any of you could be the only ones to know about or have played a game on the best selling console of all time from one of their top veteran developers on a triple AAA title at the height of that console's popularity? Onimusha was awesome. The first two anyway. The second one was just perfect.
Here are few tips for playing *NIOH*: 1, Don't break your Controller. 2. Don't break your PS4. 3.Don't break your TV. 4.Just keep playing and keep playing until you beat this fucking game:) PS:Remember enemies's move and find your own play style, this is the only way to finish the game =_=.
For those having difficulty. Guys I want to say I played this game almost a year ago and a million times I wanted to break my tv or controller. I almost gave up I don’t know how many times, but it gets easier once you understand, and move on. Most of the game is very fast and is just being prepared, so studying your enemies moves makes it so much easier. It’s hard when the combat is so fast to think that but once you separate the fast combat and studying your opponents moves it gets easier.
Just started playing this game and god damn.. this is going to give dark souls a run for its money... and Ive been a souls/BB fanboy forever... I am freaking LOVING this game. the mechanics are so damn deep
Mitch H you must understand that this isnt a completely original idea.this game is great, but even the developers admitted it was very inspired by the soul series.it had a lot of development time as well.
Eldritch Enigma At this point, Dark Souls has become its own game genre since so many games have different adaptions of their gameplay, so I'm fine with games like Nioh using inspiration from them.
Zachary Kemp yeah but people comparing this game which obviously had been scrapped like twice and then revived itself with a longer development time,to the game franchise that is the pioneer of the genre is not relevant.
Eldritch Enigma honestly I find it ridiculous when people consider building off of an already great idea and making it their own a bad thing... thats how any art grows and changes. Any person who blindly dismisses this game as a "souls clone" doesn't have even a slight clue as to what theyre talking about. This game builds on almost every aspect of a souls game and brings a ton of their own game DNA into it as well. It's an incredible hybrid of the two and is the best game ive played in a long time.
No clue man. I keep thinking I got lucky on the first boss...one attempt and killed him. Took 6 tries and I downed the second boss (vamp lady). Waiting to see if the third one just pummels me.
Finally someone who is willing to admit its alot like dark souls people are going crazy for saying its a dark souls clone thats not a bad thing thats a fucking badge of honour in my opinion
Meme Iselfaneye yeah thats true it innovates enough and souls could learn a bit from nioh but in my opinion souls is the better game but ill still play nioh any day
Artorias of the Abyss I agree. Make all the dark souls clones (not you lords of the fallen, you suck no one loves you). But everyone else, GIVE, ME, MORE, SOULS LIKE, GAMES.
It does wrong everything that dark souls does right. The only thing keeping this game from being trash is the combat system. The loot system, the enemies, the maps, etc., are all absurdly lazy in this game. Tons of reskinned enemies and weapons with just the numbers adjusted. It's nonsense.
Moon Door They are two very different games. This game's focus is its combat and if it wasn't good it would fail. The witcher obviously doesn't need to have that much put into its combat since it can compensate with literally everything else(not saying its combat is even bad to begin with)
This year has been pretty surprising for me. I thought For Honor would just be a rock-paper-scissors combat type game, and now I crave the open beta. And now Nioh comes along. I thought "Oh, look...someone else trying to get in on the 'Souls' market" but oh how wrong I was. Combat is more complex, loot is more fun, and bosses aren't the jokes they have become in the "Souls" series. That isn't even mentioning some of the other things, such as how equipment is upgraded, broken down, and (re)created or how you have more ways to open combat with how well the ranged weapon is done compared to the "Souls" series. Overall, in the past 5hrs I have played the game, I have had more fun with it than I have with the last two "Souls" games, and I would (sadly?) consider myself a fanboy of the series. This is a 9.8/10 in my book.
I got DS 2 for a song and I couldn't agree more. That game's ranged combat is so bad that it kind of killed my desire to play it. Horrible interface too. From Software needs to look up the word: "intuitive"
As a DS fan and a Nioh copy owner who has played both the beta and alpha, this game is not a clone of DS. Is it a hardcore RPG like DS? Yes. Does it play like it? No, but it *looks* like it plays like a souls game. When you have the controller in your hands, single player is different. In DS, if the weapon was great, you stun-locked enemies to death. In Nioh, stun-locking is there, but not as emphasized. Nioh has a list of combos to keep in mind at the back of your head. The ki pulse, 3 stances, and combo movesets shake up the combat in a way DS doesn't. Nioh makes you focus on using the right stance, combos, and ki pulse to be effective. DS makes you focus on stamina-usage and weapon speed (i.e. Nioh has fast and slow attacks with all weapons, but DS has weapons that are only fast, only slow, etc.). Both are great games, and if you truly are a DS fan, you should pick up Nioh cause it offers a new spin on the hardcore RPG genre you've grown to love - which should be one of the core reasons for you liking DS in the first place. If you have neither, get Nioh. Only because I'm confident that Dark Souls 3 will eventually have a game of the year edition coming this summer, so you can hit a nice deal if you wait on that.
Cant agree more, also as someone who played the Alpha & Beta (Though I don't have the full game yet.) I have to say: Whilst yes, there are SOME things that feel like Souls had some part in it, it is as small as the things like Bonfires, Combat? Its own entity. I mean, what game has enough depth to make you go from this clumsy, stumbling, "Samurai" to this ol' fukin video game Ninja, Dodging EVERY attack, landing them at the perfect time too, getting that Ki pulse in just right when your Ki runs out, yet you're safe to do it? ITS GR8, BUY IT. Oh, one more thing, I cant say whether it'll happen with others or even in the full game, but there are some bosses that will give you a run for your money, for a while and I mean a while. Eventually, you'll enter a sort of "I've had enough of your shit" and completely annihilate the boss.
It seems from the footage that you're pretty early in the game. I think you'll probs be retracting the opinion that it's not as hard as Souls games when you a bit farther.
I think that's a matter of opinion. I don't know if I would consider the Before You Buy videos reviews since they're pretty much just straight up opinions, but I've had the game for about a week and I thought it was easier than Souls games until I beat the first boss post-London. It gets MUCH harder after that and I honestly think the added layer of having to hit R1 to recover your stamina at the risk of being stunned coupled with the different stances and types of enemies makes it more difficult than any of the Souls games.
Jimmy Champane I could disagree. the skills that let you recover ki and the nearly retarded AI make the game waaay to easy. I'm level 71 now and have yet to be killed. The slime boss would have to be the hardest because I didn't light the torches before I went in. other than that, all the bosses are hilariously easy. the combat system isn't very deep either. Attack flux attack flux. stay at 100% ki while switching stances for easy ki drain on the enemies.
it being more RPG allows you to overlevel if you are really feeling the burn on a mission, the himirogi branches and summoners candles allow you to never really take any big risks. The co-op makes the game extremely easy (same as all the souls games). Too hard isn't really something you need to worry about in nioh.
This guy always throws reviews out as soon as the game releases. He never does good reviews from what I've seen. He's trying to maximize viewership. I try and do full reviews only after completing games, but I've found that reviews I post a week after release generally get only a few views whereas reviews for smaller games and content that I release the DAY OF release get a ton of views. That's why there's so many crappy reviews on youtube.. people are trying to make money and don't care about what they're doing.
I'm a huge.... huuuuugge dark souls fan.. that being said. I bought this game a week ago. And I absolutely love this game... I like it more than dark souls. It's similar but there is so much more cool shit in this game. I love the different fighting stance. Switching styles and different weapons. And super guardian ability. I have put in a lot of hours and feel like I barely scratch the surface. Like level 60.. I will be playing this for the next month straight.
@@chrislair6832 I got the game for free a few months ago and barely played it; a few days ago I got back into it, and holy shit it's fun asf, I can be stuck on a mission for hours and still have fun
My biggest gripe so far is that trying to hit some of the bigger yoki or bosses. You have maybe a split second to hit them before they do a flurry of attacks before you can even dodge. It gets frustrating but it's the game design. It's different from the souls games and it's really hard to break that happily of "let the enemy do his attack. Then I go in and swing two times." Rinse repeat until it's dead
I just don't like the constant comparison to other games. I feel like you should just observe the game and critique it for what it is. Because at this rate we are now critiquing dark souls and Nioh.
Comparisons are fair when it comes to game mechanics like the souls, graves, bonfires, but once you get a grasp of the mechanics Nioh really becomes it's own beast with far more depth than DaS. Great game.
I'm enjoying this game so far. One thing I like that wasn't mentioned is that you can help other players via co-op, and while you do, you get to collect loot from enemies/bosses/chests, just like the host. The game appears to drop loot for each player, and I think it's a nice touch to give you extra reason to help people.
I've been playing this type of game since The Immortal, and I'm finding that I sincerely love Nioh just as much as Demon / Dark Souls / Bloodborne. The Japanese version has been long awaited and is very well done. Been playing over the last few days and really appreciate the complexities & style :) my only concern is that the story will be short, but we'll see. Looking forward to in-depth critiques after we've all finished ng+ :)
man I can't get enough of these gameranx videos. Keep up the awesome work, guys! This game looks awesomely challenging and has a pretty cool story as far as I can see!
This game is amazing. Certain bosses are definitely on par with the souls series. The different stances combined with the different weaponry is what makes me love this game. So many different ways to play.
God I love this game so far, getting better at dealing damage to the first boss and taking less damage is a great feeling. Also never expected a ninja to pull a cat out of his suit lmao
Started playing Nioh remastered on PS5 a few days ago and I am absolutely addicted to this game staying up until early morning to play. It is soooo much fun and has so many things to enjoy/like
I've been loving it so far. As for the linear levels, I don't feel like they're all that linear after the first couple missions. The combat is intensely satisfying
Was looking forward to the Before you buy in this game, Now to wait for Horizon Zero Dawn and For Honor Before you buy. February def has more and better games than last month
Holy shit Gameranx replied to my comment. My year has been made and its only February you guys rock. I really like how you try to response to as much comments as possible.
I played all the 3 Demos and became obsessed with the game. I picked up yesterday finally my copy of the game and I am probably lost in the next couple of months in the rich world of the game, to fight along others or help other gamers to beat some of the bosses. The game is just outstanding and worthy to be meantioned along Miyazaki's Souls titles eventhough Nioh does enough own things to stand as a own unique title.
I honestly love this genre. I would love to see more developers follow suit and put forth more of what from software established with the souls and bloodborne franchises. Love the challenge and though it tries hard to be like souls it also tries just as hard not to be. Overall it's a great effort put forth and a welcome addition to a rather limited genre.
95% of the comments: "It's harder than Dark Souls" 5% of the comments: "Let's not forget Ninja Gaiden came before Demon's Souls and Dark Souls" So tired of people comparing this game to Dark Souls. It's way different.
I'm sorry but this is not trying to copy dark souls... in my opinion dark souls isn't that good of a game. Bring on the fan boys. this is a good game on its own. There's loooads of differences here
thebhoy2000 I never completed because I never bought it. I watched a walkthrough of it and it looked rubbish. I'd rather play ninja gaiden and those were bad ganes
Nioh isn't as hard as the SoulsBorne games? I played the crap out of all the Dark Souls games and Bloodborne but got completely destroyed in the alpha of Nioh.
the demos left you level 1 in later parts of the game. the actual release of the game has yet to kill me once. it's just way to easy. this is the first time a souls like game had a difficulty option so I could turn on hard mode so it actually feels like a souls game.
***** the bosses could be hard if they had any design of aggression. After their 3 hit combo there is a 10 second period of every boss doing nothing. Once you realize that you can abuse it and every boss is easy.
Now Nioh is finally out I am wondering how difficult is Nioh compared to DS3 & BB? Did the devs decrease the difficulty compared to the alpha & beta? It's been so long, but I have played the first demo of Nioh and this game was so hard that I couldn't even pass the first area where more than 3 enemies attacked me. I beat DS3 & BB both and thought they were kinda difficult, but if you grind you can keep up. I really like the Onimusha vibe this game got, but I am too worried to get more frustrated by playing Nioh than actually having fun because of the difficulty. After even seeing IGN's review of 9.6 I really want to get this game. Also, can you co-op all the bosses or all the areas as many times as you want? So ye, I am on the fence. Thanks for reading & thanks in advance for any feedback about this game.
Kakashikewl Because thhis game a based around Japanese history. William Adams is the first ever Western Samurai and in history, Hattori and William Adams lived at the same time. In case you didnt realize, William Adams is the character you play as.
DO NOT get this game if you don't like and/or are not really good at Dark Souls-esque games. Most people telling you this game is great and to get it are projecting their own experience and are people who are already nerds at these types of games. This game is a nightmare for casual gamers or people who aren't experienced in this genre and you will give up after a few hours and never want to play it again. You have been warned.
Hello dark souls lover here to say that nioh is amazing and a great competitor to the souls series! The main thing that stands out the most more than the souls games is the fighting stances, those are brilliant!
What a fucking stupid comment.. what if hes alreasy played ds? Hey man i cant play bloodbone dont have a ps4, no worries just play fifa with mods my dude
This has been one of my most awaited games, but I don't even have a PS4 yet... I'm not that great at Souls games, but Nioh interests me immensely for the historical and mythological standpoints. I love the lore of youkai creatures and William Adams is one of the most interesting historical figures that I know.
I really want to play this now. I hadn't even heard of it until last week (I think) when you guys talked about it. I'm totally okay with it feeling more linear. I played Dark Souls a little because my brother got it for me, but I just couldn't get into it. I felt like there was no direction or really any story, which is fine, but at the time I wasn't into that. I do want to go back and try the Souls games again though, because I did enjoy the combat.
Willie D. Washington same here. Big fan. All platinum trophies and nioh to me is a amazing experience. It’s definitely in my top 20. The more I play the more I want to play. I love it
EVERYBODY PLEASE KEEP PLAYING NIOH!! The community is still bussing we vets always help out just go to the shrine & we got y’all with the assist. The game is amazing I have part two but i keep helping anyone who summon me lol 😆 just a great game & part 2 looks even better ; anyways the game is free & worth every penny. We are here for assistance so keep grinding keeping play . Hail all video game 🎮 players
I've never played a souls game (but love it aesthetically) but I love this game. Doesn't seem insane in difficulty yet (just hit mission 3) but what really drew me was the gameplay style. I think dark souls looks better but the stance changes and everything else this game has to offer is better in my opinion.
It looks really cool, but as somebody who really enjoys ds and bloodborne, I'm torn as to whether I should pick up the dlcs for ds3 and bb, or get nioh. What do you think Jake?
im on the same ship as you odai, i like my games when its not so challenging i dont like it when boss fights are 3 days long idk im gonna buy it tonight
People complaining About people calling it a clone, Even when this was made prior to dark souls it released afterwards and There is nothing wrong with Taking inspiration or Copying another game/movie in general as long as you improve on the formula, Take cars for instance everyone is a copy of the original but added enough to make countless versions but still remain a Car. This works on the formula same as the souls but improve enough to make it their own and its not a insult as you think. you still respect both series as of what it is. coming from the same pool
Well it's not really surprising that some will piss for this game to be called soul clone and take it to litterally and it sometime piss me off to when i heard that, these 2 are simmilar but different, both just share the same genre but thanks to the genre doesn't have any official name, anything that's simmilar but not "souls" are called "soul like" because people still don't get a suitable name for this genre, because of that, why don't we invent a new name for this genre? Like how about "Prepare to die" RPG?
For the record, the soulsborne series did heavily influence this game. The developers have openly said this and welcome the comparisons from what it seems. I think this game looks really cool and when I'm done with my break after binging through DS3 again, 2, and Bloodborne, I will almost definitely pick this up. Let us know if you have any more comments or opinions on it Jake!
Nioh is the game of when you don’t know how to make a boss hard, just lift the damage, some bosses there are barely no learning process in the repeat dying boss fight, after 10times trying the only thing you realize you are doing is hoping don’t be hit by boss, instead of learning how to doge/block it’s hit and fight back at right time, because all hit of boss basically kill you instantly, and you will only learn frustration
Charlie Wood I've played from demon's souls to dark souls 3, and I've beaten Nioh. They aren't hard games and it hurts when people say that genuinely. There are mechanics you need to learn and then you learn them and you're good. Nioh frustrated me because some bosses have attacks that can one shot you, but in the end all you do is learn their move set and kill them. Not a hard genre once you learn how to play
Lawful Trek But don't you see? That is exactly what is "Hard" about these games, the steep learning curve. An experienced speed runner can beat these games quite quickly, but the skill and time required to "Git gud" at these things, given that they are spicifically designed to frustrate, is more than I and a lot of people are willing to invest given the ocean of other games available to play. Check out this article, www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/video-games/7808860/Computer-gamers-have-reactions-of-pilots-but-bodies-of-chain-smokers.html Can you imagine a navy fighter pilot saying, "Oh, yeah, landing a jet on an aircraft carrier isn't hard, it just takes inate skill and lots of training."? Well, gee, there's obvious for you. In time, I'm sure I could "Git gud" at other games designed to be frustrating, like QWOP, but why? And why defend Souls? It's hugely popular and probably should be much more niche than it is.
Charlie Wood - yeah but that's equally what so many people enjoy about the game (and genre). Climbing the learning curve, learning the game and the dance of combat. It can be great!
Gamer Fury I enjoyed Demon's Souls once I used the Duping glitch. In fact, I think the Tower of Latria is pretty damn awesome but I still don't necessarily like the game or think that it is "good". I went on to play Dark Souls but the duping glitch there isn't so generous; I pressed on anyway, continued to be frustrated, I wasnt having fun, and so I quit. I don't think half as many people would enjoy Souls if they couldn't talk about it with others, if it were unknown or else trashed by gaming media. It's really the Souls club membership that counts most with the series. That being said, I'd really like to play Bloodborne. I really like the atmosphere it has and I understand that it has Souls fans split, which could be good news for me.
Having mostly played Bloodborne (with sprinkles of Demon's Souls & just staring Dark Souls 2) I completely ignore the guard button in Nioh; that's why I kept getting killed in all the demos. Didn't even make it past the first area in each one
played the beta and i must say nioh is definitely not a datk souls clone. There are exactly 2 things that are from souls born and that are shrines and bloodstains (only a tad bit better). Comparing those 2 games is like to say rainbow six siege is a csgo clone because both are fps tactic shooters imho.
Also people forget that ninja gaiden was well before dark souls. And I consider Nioh to be a more evolved version of those. They where also known for being difficult. It's like when you have an RPG that is hard people immediately compare it to Dark Souls.
Souls games are about reading your enemies while Nioh is about mastering your own abilities. I really couldn't get into the combat system, has too much happening.
I found Nioh to be actually HARDER than a Souls game, particularly if you stick to your weapons and avoid cheesing bosses with magic, ninjitsu and living weapons. Overall I prefer Souls mechanics, though, as Nioh tends to gum things up with endless complication. It's definitely a game worth playing, but even though I purchased the season pass I've had little temptation to go back and play the DLC which I got for free. I guess that says something. The notion that I'd simply skip a Souls DLC is unthinkable.
I finished the game and will never touch the series again. The parry system was an unforgiving feat that was absurdly hard to use. So many fights and bosses just seemed annoying. I didn't have much fun with the combat. The inventory trash was insufferable, and spoke a lot about the lack of polish in the gameplay, even if the game looked great. Couldn't figure out how to tie the ending cutscenes to whatever story was present in the game. Great graphics, but everything else just seemed like an amateur attempt to copy a Souls game.
I always appreciate these before you buy videos especially this one I was really debating getting and I will be definitely purchasing it within the next few days thanks gameranx
