Evan, we are setting up our MOXY unit for a hypoxia study, it would be very useful if you were to make a video on how to analyze the data obtained from the MOXY. Also, is the PeriPedal only so you can see the SmO2 in real time..... or is that where you get the MOXY data from? Thanks,

Unfortunately, I won't be making any lab based videos for awhile. PeriPedal software allows you to see the data in real time and export it later. I don't think they have analysis tools but I could be wrong.

Thanks for sharing this Dr. Matthews. I was hoping you could link me to a follow up video on the data analysis you mentioned toward the end. Specifically if you have any explaining how you get the deoxyhemoglobin values. Thanks!

Thanks for the comment. I have not made any followup videos on NIRS yet. However, calculating oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin are pretty easy. The output from the Moxy NIRS sensor gives you total hemoglobin and oxygen saturation (%). Pause the video at 17:36 and look at the first row of data. Lets say your total hemoglobin is 12.64g/dL and your oxygen saturation is 79%. Simply do 12.64 x 0.79 = 9.99g/dL is your value for oxyhemoglobin within the tissue being measured. Then do 12.64 - 9.99 = 2.65g/dL is your value for deoxyhemoglobin.

Hi dr Matthews. In one of the comments they made you taught them how to calculate oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin, how can these data be interpreted? could you make a video? And my other question is where can I find information to know the interpretation of these calculations, any paper any author? thank you very much greetings from chile

My other question is how do I determine the "O2HHB BF"? what would that data do for me? Do you have any source of information? I'm new with moxy monitor and amateur, I don't know anything :( THANKS!!!

Hi Dr. Matthews. I had a question about using the NIRS system. I've heard some people say that when using the NIRS system, occlusion of the limb is required. What is your opinion on this?

+J3TCS it depends on what you are trying to determine. I use it for both occlusion and non-occlusion studies. It will tell you the muscle oxygenation percentage saturation either way.

That means increase in exercise intensity uses oxygen quite quickly so that’s not anaerobic right 😅

Hi Akshay Danaveni. I'm not sure what part of the video you are referring to, but it is typically not about if we are using aerobic or anaerobic. It is about which is the dominate source of energy.

@@VivoPhys hey Evan thanks for the reply, I was wondering when you started cycling but harder your oxygen levels went down so I thought if intensity is high then we tend to use phosphagen sys and Glycolytic sys right? … yeah There’s always overlap and in diff phases diff energy systems are been utilised more than others … your videos are very informative and helpful thanks for educating us 🤝🤠

You would use more anaerobic energy during the immediate transition than after reaching steady state again. If steady state is possible (intensity isn't too hard) the exercise will be primarily aerobic.
