The In Bloom solo is the defining moment of grunge -- the dissonance, the total disregard for traditional structure, the violence, the despair, and the finale punctuated by the crashing chords -- I first heard this as a 21-year-old in college and thought, Huh, are they playing my beloved punk rock on the radio? No, but it's not heavy metal. It was simply perfect -- the natural evolution from Sonic Youth, but more melodic than that band.
I never really thought about that until now because guitar solos never particularly struck me the way the riffs usually do but I think the way everything clashes in perfect harmony here probably makes this my fav song of all time
@@j.trumancordray308 whats the difference if hes using the pinky or not, i mean hes still pressing the other string which you normally press down with your pinky finger right?
That this paean to the type of mindless fan who "knows not what it means" appeared on the album that would eventually catapult Nirvana into the white-hot center of alternative rock is an almost too-delicious irony - especially since, as Novoselic told Rolling Stone's David Fricke in 2001, "it sounded like a Bad Brains song" in its earliest incarnations. But Cobain's workshopping of the track led to its triumphant summing up of what made Nirvana so captivating - morose and surrealistic lyrics married to power chords and gleefully turned-out harmonies. Tuning: Standard Equipment used: Fender Kurt Cobain Jaguar, Boss DS-1, Electro Harmonix Small Clone and Fender Mustang IV amp Lyrics: Sell the kids for food Weather changes moods Spring is here again Reproductive glands Hey - he's the one Who likes all our pretty songs And he likes to sing along And he likes to shoot his gun But he knows not what it means Don't know what it means, when I say: He's the one Who likes all our pretty songs And he likes to sing along And he likes to shoot his gun But he knows not what it means Knows not what it means when I say ah... We can have some more - nature is a whore Bruises on the fruit - tender age in bloom Hey - he's the one Who likes all our pretty songs And he likes to sing along And he likes to shoot his gun But he knows not what it means Don't know what it means, when I say: He's the one Who likes all our pretty songs And he likes to sing along And he likes to shoot his gun But he knows not what it means Knows not what it means when I say ah... Nice job bro! You nailed the sound which is not exactly easy because Kurt used so many different types of equipment all of the time to get his harsh, throaty but also melodic sound. Well done. : )
You are really good at covering nirvana songs. You get all the idiosyncrasies tbe nuances and play it the way Kurt played the songs. Especially this one.
hey Tom is there any way you could post a tutorial of how you play the solo in this song? there are alot of videos of people playing it different and I think you sound the best of them all. thanks either way.
Kurt cobains simplicity is great. He shows the world you don’t need to be the best guitar player just come as you are and make your own unique sound. Well done
Why do a lot of you videos say not available, it's doing my head in coz I really like your covers. Hopefully I'll be at you level one day. Keep it up, sounds great
+Luke Young because UMG is bad ass when it comes to copyright. They block your videos on mobile phones, video game consoles, or set-top boxes if u even think about nirvana when u play your guitar, haha. U can however see them on your PC.
Chorus pedals sound good. I'm probably buying myself one soon a TC electronic one called Corona. I'm also gonna buy a bass guitar so i can do cover's in a studio :). Can't stop listening to your cover's !!
Tomnedreb thinking about doing heart shaped box. Well it's a garage band type o' think i don't have like a real real studio that costs so it's for free for now would probably be different if i'd record an album xD
Hey Tom, you're amazing man! I was wondering (just a suggestion), you should do covers on other bands songs example: GNR, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Metallica?
Hey Tom, you're really good at playing. I'm a beginner, and I'm having a lot of trouble staying enthusiastic about playing. I can play power chords and things like that, but with the main chords I'm absolutely terrible. No matter how hard I practice with the main chords, they just don't get better. I've been playing for about 6 months now, any tips?
+SethKun All I can say is that most people experience those problems when they start playing. I actually gave up playing 6 months after I got my first guitar and it took me four years before i started playing again. So I guess my advice is to just practice like hell and I'm sure u can play all the songs u want in the future.
