Learning how to play the clean parts where Kurt is just playing random notes is harder than learning to play EVH solos! Songs like “Milk It” really makes you appreciate Kurt’s approach to the guitar.
I just might agree with you. ;) yeah, it's a totally different approach compared to playing scales. Playing atonally is a skill that needs to practiced just like anything else.
I appreciate how you don't just provide a 1:1 transcription but touch on the musical framework of the songs so we can have to tools to play around in the song as if it were a sandbox.
awesome! yeah, I think it's important to understand why you're playing what you're playing. That way, you can get creative and do your own thing. You can also apply what you've learned to other songs or your own songs.
@@MattBrownGuitar Scentless Apprentice is another gem. My second favorite is song is Radio Friendly Unit Shifter. That one and Milk It make for great running tunes when I feel like I can’t go another mile. All of a sudden, 5 more miles don’t seem too tough. 😊
I bought in utero 4 years ago and got hooked on radio Friendly Unit Shifter and completely overlooked this song, that guitar riff is one of the best grunge sounds of all time in my opinion, amazing song, j just learned it, very fast hand movements, very satisfying to play. Your a great teacher man. Kurt is a massive idol of mine, I went to you straight away when I wanted yo learn this.
thanx 4 the continued amazing lessons matt, this song is hilarious in it's dissonance and ugly sound, really dark lyrics too, but the riff is really cool......kurt cobain definitely had one of rock's best screams too......
Yeah, everything about this song is amazing. Apparently, this song and Scentless Apprentice were the two songs that really turned off the record company prior to In Utero's release.
lol, yeah i can definitely see that, nothing on nevermind was nearly as hardcore and non radio friendly as those 2, tourettes and radio friendly unit shifter as well! nirvana's noise rock influence comes through on this album a lot more as well!
Love Kurt’s playing same with Steve jones an Johnny thunders those are my go to guys I learned playing there songs and never paid attention to music theory just learned basic chords an play with attitude and your good to go those 3 artist teached whole generations how to be rockstars without knowing how to play an that’s amazing
Thanks for the reply, Had a dad is a song that I want to learn but is more difficult to learn by ear not for the chords progression but for the guitar solos!
Lol. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain Kurt didn't "know" what the fuck he was doing musically. He just had an ear for good progressions lol LOVE Nirvana and Kurt Cobain.... but yeah lol
