Smt. Rajani and Smt. Gayatri, I had said in my earlier comment, again I will say this, when I listen to this stotra on Sri Shankaracharya, it takes me away to all the places he might have travelled, specifically Sringeri, had the opportunity to visit that sacred place a few times. It looks like you two are born to sing this prayer. So much clarity in your pronunciations, not a syllable extra or less when singing. There is such an union in your singing. So effortlessly you sing from beginning to the end, the same energy throughout. I am sure Sri Shankaracharya showering his blessing on you both.🙏

As difficult as it is to have the correct pronunciation of sandhis in theses Sanskrit verses, doing so to the meter of the ragam and nest it within the ensemble of well-timed flute and other background music along with symbiotic visuals makes this a rare production that can only be expected from Raga sisters. Magical !!

Nirvāṇaṣatkam also called Atma Shatkam is the Sanskrit hymn composed by Ādi Śaṅkara around 8th century AD. It is said that Ādi Śaṅkara, at the age of eight, was wandering near River Narmada in search of a guru. He met the seer Govinda Bhagavatpada who asked him, "Who are you?" The answer from Ādi Śaṅkara was in the form of this hymn, where the self is described through the concepts it is not. Nirvāṇaṣatkam conveys the basic teachings of Advaita Vedanta - the Hindu philosophical doctrine of non-dualism. The ideas of non-dual consciousness are postulated as the unity of individual soul (Atman) with the ultimate reality (Brahman). The basic idea of the mantra is that soul is not bound by anything. Here is the interpretation of each verse: 1. I am not the mind, nor intellect, nor ego, nor five senses, nor five essential elements of creation. 2. Neither can I be termed as energy, nor five types of breath, nor the five sheaths of consciousness. 3. There is no like or dislike in me, no greed or delusion. I have no duty, nor any money, nor any desire, nor even liberation. 4. I have no virtue or vice, no pleasure or pain. I need no mantras, no scriptures, or rituals. 5. I have no father, no mother, no fear of death for I was never born. 6. I am devoid of duality; my form is formlessness. I am everything, everywhere, every time, always in equilibrium. Each verse ends with the same fourth line - I am this eternal knowledge and bliss, love, and pure consciousness. Chanting and listening to Nirvāṇaṣatkam makes an individual emotionally stable and helps one achieve an eternal state of calm. It guides soul to be rid of unwanted attachments.

I can't thank you enough for bringing out this heartwarming Nirvanashtakam for all of us. It literally moved me so deeply, and I could feel the state of trans and bliss so instantly. This raga does something magical from within akka. It just stirs up and moves us so deeply. For some reason, I've always been so addicted to this chant, and everytime I hear this I feel so emotional and kind of loose myself to it. Maybe the tatva of the sloka, or the mere sound of those powerful lines, or the state of spiritual bliss that it offers. I can't put that in words, but something about this chant has always gives an intense experience. I was so badly wanting to hear you version again, and to savour it for lifetime. I'm extremely happy that, you've shown this light to me. I'm forever grateful for this 😇🙏 Even the anime was so mystic and gives that total divine feeling. Its a invaluable treasure for us! I login for work at noon. I start my walking around 10-30AM for an hour and my music list is Subramanya Bhujangam, Nirvana Shatkam, Sri Parvati Parameshwaram and Mahadeva Shiva Shambho (sung in Mangaluru). By the end, I feel so energized... Especially the Nirvana Shatkam is 6:16 mins of goosebumps and hits a deep Chord. Thanks a lot for taking us to a different world.... I would have really loved to learn music from you...
