David, there's a famous quote by Kurt Cobain which was in Melody Maker or NME I think (British music paper/mag) in which Nirvana were interviewed & the the interviewer asked what they thought of the critics who said the songs on Nevermind were too simple & most of the songs had no more than 3 chords in them, the interviewer then asked how do you respond to that? & Kurt Cobain said "Yeah, but they're really good ones" 🤣
It’s a great album, it always felt like a polished punk album. You did ” Territorial Pissings ” but I’m not sure about “ Lounge Act” if not, it’s another gem from that album.
“Fun” is a good word to describe Nirvana songs like these. It’s been yrs since I’ve listened to “Stay Away,” but I found myself bobbing my head to the rhythm. I like how you mentioned Kurt’s vocal melody, because imo, they’re a significant part of what makes these simple songs good. If these songs didn’t sound fun and catchy, I probably wouldn’t have been inspired to pick up a guitar & learn them at age 14.
The ending is right for the album because the next track On a Plain is a quiet and slower track. The end helps the transition. Now a days people mostly listen to songs instead of albums. Keep that in mind.
“It can’t be that simple.” I thought, It’s Nirvana. Soooo… yup. Original title was “Pay To Play”. In the only official bio of the band during Kurt’s life, the author pointed out the main riff was similar to the Mtv theme at the time. Off their blockbuster sophomore album, the big hit release. When the producer of their debut ‘Bleach’ heard a copy, he thought they had found their own voice. At that time Dave Grohl was a really skinny young guy, and always heavy on the drums. Lots of other artists found that out. And I bet he still pounds the skins. I also agree that the main riff is real catchy; it makes you bop your head. I don’t think you’ll regret purchasing the album at some point.
yeah i remember this song was called pay to play to criticize the underground scene issues ,different lyrics , but they changed it to better align with being on a major label , welll they asked to change as far as i understood .
Nevermind- one of the greatest and most selling albums in music history. Nobody can deny impact that Nirvana had on music turning things upside down. All in all you almost heard all songs from Nevermind still two that you should give a try - Lounge act and On a plain Best wishes David and keep on rockin
When I saw you were reviewing Stay Away I knew immediately you'd love it based on your review of Territorial Pissings. They both have that similar punk vibe with interesting melodic and harmonic touches. I'd love to see your reaction to In Bloom, from the same album. Some great chord changes in that song.
David I've always said you would like nirvana and respect kurt's writing style, you just need to find the right songs to react to 😂 he got some of the best screams and crazy melodic guitar riffs, I would love to see you say Kurt impressed you 😊 you just gotta find the right songs
I have an Ampeg SVT Classic head, 300 WT all tube amp. It's going into an Ampeg 6x10 cabinet. I have the cabinet facing the wall away from the mic, and the volume is set to 0.6...it's not even on 1. It's an EXTREMELY powerful rig, and I don't want to overpower the mic.

He’s giving you a reaction/review on a song on his own youtube channel. Everything he says about music here that’s subjective, is his opinion. That should be obvious, even if he doesn’t start the sentence the way you want him to. Christ.
He's just another butthurt fanboy who is outraged that I dared to say it wasn't perfect like he believes every single Nirvana song should be rated. Heaven forbid I have a different opinion from his, right?
@@Helgerkuusik Of course I realize that it's only his opinion. But his delivery makes it sound like not an opinion. Like he believes he's 100% right and it's not even subjective. He talks like he truly believes if he was in the studio in 1990, he would have made it a better song. He ends up sounding egotistical.
