This is my new time capsule condition 1997 Nissan XE 4x4 hardbody pickup. Only real issue is I need to address an engine noise. I know KA24e have the common issue of timing chain rattle at startup, which mine seems to have. But the sound I'm concerned about comes on after the engine warms up (in video 2 • Video )Now I am hoping it is also just the timing chain slapping around bc I plan to change it either way. I still need to do further tests, but any informed opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Figured out it is my timing chain rattling. I took the valve cover off and looked inside, sure enough the chain guide had come apart.

my chian rattles now when i drive it. even after the metal cap bushing like in mrjim's videos on the timing chain rattle.

How did you fix this issue? I am currently having this issue with one of my 96 Nissan XE's.

Henry Smith Hi, I ended replacing the parts with a made in Japan timing chain kit. Also, I added the tensioner plunger spacer that Mr1Jim sells. Fixed the problem for me. If you have a 4wd... and you chain guide has shattered, be prepared for a lot of work. My oil pan was full of broken bits of plastic and you do not want them clogging up the oil pickup strainer. Getting to oil pan requires removing the front diff, loosening the motor and trans mounts and jacking the motor up a few inches. Total pain but worth it if you have a truck you plan to keep for awhile as the parts are pretty cheap.
