I cannot thank you enough I had problems with my motors idle and it would die as soon as I switched it in gear when I asked for advise people either didnt know how to work on a Nissan or wouldn't even attempt it but following the carb cleaning in this video my motor runs 100% better thank you so much I can actually take my boat on the water now
I just took the bolt out of one side of the manifold pipe going in the engine and loosened the other one, then slightly twisten the carb assembly to get at the carb mount screws. No tight spots then. Carb cleaner spray worked great, took 5 minutes, ran great.
when i first got my tohatsu 4hp i had a similar issue one of the times i went to take it out. few minutes in i felt quite foolish when i finally realized i forgot to switch the gas back to on board tank. i was surprised it even ran with the lever turned to the off/external position. gave us a good laugh though. but now its bout do for a cleaning. nice vid
Did cleaning the carburetor totally solve the problem? I am having a similar problem, and cleaning the carburetor helped, but it still doesn't run quite right. (It idles fine, and revs up fine in neutral, but when in gear it seems to not get enough gas at high speed.) I'm wondering if I need to clean/ repair the fuel pump too.
Good video. I have a Nissan 9.8 that I run on my sailboat and I done this same process about 5 times already and soaked in real carb dip. I was not so lucky as my problem keeps returning which is, anything under half throttle and it quits on me and won't idle. I since then replaced the4 slow jet, fuel filter, both spark plugs, and bought a complete carb kit. Only thing left to replace now is the external fuel tank. Docking a cruiser sailboat in a marina slip over half throttle is not fun lol.
Hi ! My problem is with the idle.. it goes up.. (in rmp).. down.. and after a while it quits. If I remove the external tank line.. it will run without problems. I did a carb clean but not an overnighter. I've Just sprayed things with carb cleaner and compressed air. The bown was NASTY ! Did you cleaned the fuel pump ? Any ideas/comments are more than welcome. Luis :-)
Luis Cosme If it runs without the tank attached it sounds like your tank is not venting properly. I have had that happen and when it does I check to make sure the little vent screw on the fuel cap is clear of debris and unscrewed to the open position.
Luis Cosme Yes I did take the fuel pump apart and wiped it out. You just have to very careful with all the rubber parts and the diaphragm. It's in the video.
The only thing I noticed is that you are soaking the carburetor in the carb cleanear, but you have to be careful because that chemical can harm your seals any rubber, like the needle rubber tip it will expand, and will cause you problems.
you soak that carb overnight in carb cleaner and you can say goodbye to your bowl gasket and your needle valve tip under your float as the carb cleaner will eat them!!!
Thank you for the clarification William. It was not carb cleaner it was soaked in it was seafoam. I will take your advice to heart and avoid soaking in carb cleaner.
