Nissan 8 HP on Jon boat. 

Dude wow I’m impressed with how that boat took off, coworker is buying a job boat made into a bass boat with a deck and an 8 hp Nissan I think fully loaded it’s going to be just fine

Well damn, That 8hp is a work horse!!!

I just bought identical motor off Craigslist for $450. Pushes my 1436 like a champ. Strangely, the throttle turned clockwise for some reason.

Just for reference in case you're interested I got my Tracker Topper 1542 with an 8hp Merc 4 stroke up to 18 or 19mph with me and gear so about 450lbs total

Wow had no idea a 8 horse would run that fast.

Can these be upgraded to 9.8 by installing a carb, or are there other differences?

8hp goes 20 but 15 Merc only does 25?
