There is absolutely no information about taking these transmissions apart on forums until your videos which is ridiculous to me since its the go to transmissions for drift builds. Your videos will save me in the future since I already have a CD009 available to me but it has the notorious 3rd gear grind and 5th and 6th gear completely are gone so I was going to buy a new one from nissan. Now I don't! Also the focus on the camera makes everything you are doing look so clear which is a huge plus. Can't wait to see more of your build process
Thanks! we are glad to hear it's actually helping people out. We are going to start the re assembly process this week as we finally got all the parts we needed so the series should be completed soon.
because it’s often about same or less cost to buy a new one at the dealership and just toss it instead. More so if you can locate a good used one, but for under $1600 USD I’d rather just buy a new one. . not so uncommon with a few OE transmissions
@@nobodyspecial5026 a brand new one from a dealership is 2,300. Ive checked numerous times and for a select few that feel that they can handle the task of taking it apart, this video series is the best walkthrough of where things go/how to take it apart. Parts are about $1000 depending on where you get your synchros and bearings from. Just the fact that Garage 23 did this series is amazing for anyone that has a broken CD009 laying around that they want to fix and use in their drift car. Most would buy a new one but just having that time of pulling your trans apart makes the build feel more special, at least in my opinion
Thanks for putting this series together. With a toothless 3rd gear on my drag build I can't believe the aftermarket support is NOWHERE for the CD009. The 3rd gear vendor you listed is out of stock so I bought a 50k mile trans. We're gonna rip that one down and send everything to Liberty for cryo-treatment and hope it stays together. Your videos give the only insight of how to actually tear one apart and what should be expected, so THANKS!
As someone else said, it’s pretty ridiculous that there isn’t any information on any forums or even any Nissan sites containing part numbers or rebuild part information. Thank you for posting this video. Would this also apply to a JK transmission since they’re technically almost identical internally?
Damn man thanks for putting in the time and showing how to pull it apart, ot sure ain't to Muncie 21 lol. I got 1 from the junk yard today it feels good through out all the gears but I wanna take a peak inside just in case it's going to be with an ls1
Nice! I came across one at the junk yard a couple years ago but i left it cuz i was alone and too lazy to pull it myself. Still kicking myself about that 😓
@@Garage23 it really is not that bad pulling it out by urself I got mine outta g35 seemed like it wasn't stock. It had headers intake aftermarket rad just all kinds of wierd shit that the other 2 g35's didn't have
What symptoms did yours give? Mine gets stuck in 5th and I completely lost 6th. I’m really hoping to rebuild my tranny instead of looking for another one
@@Garage23 hmm.. if its there to dampen vibrations i might keep em on. They were a bitch to work around when I was installing my coolerworx shifter, but at least they were able to bend. Looking forward to putting a polyurethane mount in the future.
@@Garage23 hey man i just about finished -this video. Will watch the others. I gotta say again, super appreciate this. So hard to find anything on rebuilding these transmissions
I have a 2003 350z all the gears seam fine just the syncro is going in 3rd gear I can only seem to buy syncros for a cd009 some threads say that the syncros will work in the earlier cd transmission are you aware if they are different?
I have been looking for a CD001 to try this on because all the documentation says it doesn’t work but I think it should if you replace the bearing, gear and synchro together.
I also want to verify this, it seems like it is possible but i need to find an older trans to try it on. Another concern is if it would be cost effective as youd essentialy need to get all new 1st thru 4th gears and synchros. So it might get pricey.
I'm thinking about removing those little weights on my trans too. Was there louder/excessive drivetrain noise with those off? Thats the only thing i can think of that it does, reduces drivetrain noise
I'm not sure if the reverse gear changed in that time but it's the easiest gear to get to since it's the first one to come off. So it's worth a look at least.
Can you remove the input shaft bearing without splitting the case? Wondering cus I don’t have a ton of space to take the transmission out from under the car but it is off😢
You can not. At the very least you need to take the front half off then you could rig up a puller to get it off the input shaft then hammer it back on to avoid using a press.
Awesome videos! I have a question based on your expertise. I dropped (literally dropped) my cd009 on the ground from about 5 feet in the air. It hit on the edge of the bell housing. Amazingly it didn't crack and even drives and shifts fine. However I'm getting noise in gears and 4 and 6. Not a grinding but rather kind of like buffetting noise. Wondering if my gear sets slid and shifted slightly on the shafts. Would that make sense?
4 and 6 are on different shafts I'm not sure what would cause a noise like that. I suppose an impact of that sort could have damaged one of the smaller bearings. That's the only thing I can think of.
@@Garage23 Thanks so much for replying! Fluid came out clean, so for now I'm going to run it and see if it blows up. So mad at myself still. Thanks again, keep the videos coming!
They are not all the same, there is 2 or 3 different versions. The newer ones use a different synchro and bearing than the older ones and the older ones had 2 different sized bearings.
@@2jzs13 correct but I'm not sure what size synchro the 00A uses so worst case scenario you may have to order the corresponding synchro if the one you have turns out not to fit. If your case uses the 100mm bearing then I would assume it uses the older style synchro.
Hey bro question. So I currently took apart my transmission on my g37 due to it getting stuck in 2nd gear while driving around. Do yk what could have caused that?
Could be a number of things, broken/bent shift fork, damaged synchro, broken gear, damaged bearing. You need to keep taking it apart until you find the damage.
@@Garage23 I did. Clutch was replaced with trans install 6 months ago. Even installed the zmak csc kit and new oem master. Now even with the trans off and the bell housing off the shifter still stuck in gear
If it was the one under the shifter plate it could have fallen on the floor. If it was one in the mid plate its most likely in the case somewhere. If you did lose it Amazon sells a case of assorted ball bearings amzn.to/3MdLa4D
@@Garage23 Thank you 🙏🏾 it’s both the ones in the shifter plate. I disassembled the whole transmission just to make sure it didn’t fall in and don’t see it. Glad I did lots of junk to clean out.
Thanks for posting this! Really nice clear video with a good view of everything going on! Was a real pleasant surprise to come across tonight after watching some other videos a month or so ago. All I needed info on was the rear housing disassembly and this was perfect :) One question, at the bottom of the plate sandwiched between the front and rear housings there’s a rectangular hole which from what I can tell is just a drain/passage for gear oil between the front and rear sections? Is that correct? The service manual mentions a magnet being there but I haven’t actually seen this magnet in anyone’s videos..
Yes! I actually didnt come across this until after I had everything apart. To my understanding there was supposed to be magnets in the windage tray but this may be for JK040 trans and later, this one is an early 009 so there is a magnet at the bottom of the center plate. Add us on IG and I can DM you a photo of it if you need. Thanks for your support 😁🙏🏻
