Ok guys, Sorry I did the best I can to make this video for you. Tried a new Tripod for my Phone to take the video which was tricky to get use to, and dropped my phone once. Plus some shop noise. Did the best I can for you.
This video will show you how the Alternator Belt Adjuster Pulley goes together as well as how to install it. Then I go and show you how to replace both drive belts, The Power Steering belt and Alternator Belt.

I'd like to thank you for pointing out the really important detail on loosening the power steering belt -- adjustment bolt CLOCKWISE!!!.

Thanks Jay.. I was frustrated when putting the tensioner pulley back on after replacing the alternator and not being able to resolve belt squeak. You cleared up my issue. I was tightening the pulley bolt (on the bottom) first thus locking it into place, then tightening the tensioner to no avail. The Nissan FSM is really lacking in this department. Thank you so much for your video.

My dude, that assembly on the beginning - life saver. I'm changing belts (and a new harmonic balancer) and as I'm starting to put the belts back on, I find my tensioner pulley is bad as well. Your assembly at the intro showed me I dont even have all the parts on my old pulley. And it was stuck bad) Now I know why. Looks I'm replacing the tensioner pulley tomorrow... Thanks. I thought the lighting in the video was fine.

This video saved my life, My girlfriend wads getting inpatient and other directions said to loosen that not bring it together like you did which allowed my to get the stupid belt off. Thank you so much. PS. There no bolt in that back that needs to messed with like other diagrams show.

Overall nice job! Very helpful. Don't know if you had to remove the pulley off the mount bracket when you went to reinstall it as I had to. Good thing I rewound the video around the 30 second mark because I figured out that I had reversed the order of the washer to the tightening rod! Thanks - you helped a lot!

After changing the alternator on my 3.5 Altima I stared to hear a screeching sound on start up. It only made the sound for like 1.5 to 2.0 seconds so I thought it was just the belts. After replacing the belts it did not resolve the screeching noise. I took of the idler pull, and it rolled smoothly, and the bearings seemed fine. The AC pump and the Alternator spin freely with no problems. I reinstalled everything still the screech noise is there, and the belt is tight. So I took the idler pulley back off, and roughed up the surface that the belt rides on with 150 grit sand paper the put everything back together, and BOOM!! No more noise.

Hey, I just had one of my belts changed on my 2004 Nissan Maxima 3.5. V6. The dude couldn't change out my pulley/tensioner and belt....(Hope I got the part name right)....He said the bolt that adjusts the pulley was stripped and I'd need the whole pulley assembly. No prob. I watched your vid and the way you changed out the adjuster assembly was cool. Unfortunately I can't do the work I used to do hence my having friends help. is the pulley assembly expensive? And where can I get a replacement part at a reasonable price? I don't do much buying online for this stuff because I'm a bit nervous of getting the wrong part. There aren't any leaks from the Pwr steering components, hoses, resv etc. so I think I'm good so far. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!
@FixyourNissan
@FixyourNissan 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching my Video. The best place to of course get these parts would be the dealer. It comes as a assembly like the one in the video. I forget the price exactly. I think it's like 60 bucks. But yeah.. The adjuster bolts seize over time which is the main reason they fail.
@tedhernandez2394
@tedhernandez2394 5 лет назад
FixyourNissan, Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I appreciate the info. Monday I'm off the dealer. So it's "clockwise to loosen the adjustment bolt" right? ........Maybe I can return the favor here....a few years back I had an issue with the trans not upshifting. I had the car towed to my mechanic...( I'm a half assed motor head also)....He had to call Nissan about the problem. It was an intermittent issue. Anyhow we trouble shot it and found the problem to be a trans sensor and an engine senor. transmitting false readings to the car's computer. Apparently we were advised that it was not an uncommon issue and to our surprise he had the replacement parts in stock........ Sometimes mechanic specialists don't know this....and they try to push off a replacement trans. Once the sensors were replaced...the computer reset? No more problems.....I'm a very happy camper with my Nissan max. Former Chevy and ford guy here.....But I like Nissan products...once one gets familiar with how to replace the parts on a Nissan it's a breeze. Thanks again my friend!

so you have to tighten the belt pretty tight. I changed the belt and it was quiet for a few days then started squealing on start up again. I re tightened it some and started doing the same thing again. Sound like im just not tightening it enough or replace tensioner like you did?
@FixyourNissan
@FixyourNissan 5 лет назад
If you installed a Aftermarket belt, they are known to stretch pretty bad and can keep coming loose. But you also want to make sure when you have the belts off, that all the pulleys spin freely and do not make any roaring type noises. That would indicate a pulley bearing is going which could cause seizing up which can also make the belt slip and make noise.

Hey bro hope you can answer back asap, I took my g35 to a mechanic to find out what’s the chirping noise coming from the belts from & he said ihave to change the 2 tensioners & the belts... but I’m pretty confused cus illook up the for the tensioners & it only shows me one tensioner which is the accessory one what other tensioner is there?
@FixyourNissan
@FixyourNissan 5 лет назад
Depending on what Year G35 you have, if it has 2 Belts, you have two Idler pulley Tensioners. But I would not think you would need both. That sounds like they just want to replace everything on you
@VictorRodriguez-nq9xc
@VictorRodriguez-nq9xc 5 лет назад
FixyourNissan can you tell me what it is the main problem then, cus idid the water spray test & the chirping noise went away for a bit!, thanks
@FixyourNissan
@FixyourNissan 5 лет назад
@@VictorRodriguez-nq9xc Could simply be a loose belt. Worn belt. I would remove the belts and check the pulleys before you replace them. You just don't replace pulleys

@FixyourNissan
@FixyourNissan 6 лет назад
The bolt either became un-threaded causing that, or the bolt broke when you loosened it. The video shows how the adjusted is constructed, so when you take yours off to inspect it, you can find your issue.
@johnaranjo2059
@johnaranjo2059 5 лет назад
what about the 14mm bolt behind the power steeriing pump?
@FixyourNissan
@FixyourNissan 5 лет назад
Never needed to ever loosen it to change the belts. I will crack the 12 mm bolt loose, and turn the adjuster. If the belt stays tight, I just pull down on it and it will move the pump down to allow the belt to be changed. Then use the adjuster to tighten it back up and lock it down once adjusted by tightening the 12 mm bolt
@johnaranjo2059
@johnaranjo2059 5 лет назад
I would highly recommend taking the extra 5 minuted to loosen the 14mm or just tighten it when done if the guy before left it loose
