Nissan Kicks 1.3 Turbo CVT Review

The Nissan Kicks operates in a very competitive segment which is the compact SUV space. With the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos owning the segment, Nissan had to up its game with the Kicks, in order to compete with the bigwigs. And it did, sort of, by putting the 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine under the hood (the same unit that the Renault Duster gets). This particular engine is the most powerful turbo petrol motor in the segment. It displaces 1,330 cc and makes 154 bhp at 5,500 rpm along with peak torque of 254 Nm from a very low 1,600 rpm. Our test car had a 7-step CVT gearbox. What is interesting is that the 1.3 turbo engine borrows the cylinder coating technology from the famed Nissan GT-R or the Godzilla, meaning there is a bit of the GT-R in the Kicks and that's a good thing, obviously! Here’s our comprehensive review of the Nissan Kicks 1.3 Turbo. Take a look!

I've always used Japanese cars (15 years - Prado Landcruiser & Camry). I then used Hyundai for 6 years in India and regretted every moment. So when it came to changing the car, bought Nissan Kicks which came within my budget. Toyota Fortuner was outside my budget. And Rav4 is not launched yet. Jeep Compass is highly priced, so for me, it does not give the value for the price we pay. I drove TATA and Mahindra - took them from Rentals for long drives and did not like them at all. Also heard horror stories about after sales and quality from friends. So Nissan kicks came in the right budget for me and given the features for XV Premium CVT Automatic, it's an excellent value for money. Did some test drives and understood that it's similar to Toyota quality. Tough and reliable but may not have gadgetry inside like Kia/ Hyundai. Now that I use it regularly, I feel it's a no-nonsense SUV - reliable and gives a comfortable drive. Trustworthy when I go for long drives. Same assurance as a regular Japanese (Toyota) car that I'm used to. Automatic CVT drive is super. No frills, but has all that you require in terms of multimedia, comfort and essential features. I don't know why customers talk about re-sale value in cars. I'm also surprised that Hyundai Creta sells so much in India. When you are using a car, buy a good one. Friends talked about re-sale value being high for Hyundai Creta. But I felt the point was not valid. You buy a car to drive it not with a motive to re-sell the car. I don't understand the logic. And a knowledgeable, value consicous buyer will definitely go for Japanese cars.

1.Better in all dimensions , width, length, wheel base 2. Better ground clearance 3. Better aerodynamics, stability, lights , aspheric glass in outer rear view mirror 4. Cornering fog lamps 5. Least turning radius 6. CVT at 2 lac lesser cost 7. Intelligently designed boot 8. Silent cabin 8. This car will make you feel the drive, not for wirelessly charging your phone and going for expensive service charges and resale value after 10-12 years

Whatever efforts Nissan does for Kicks, it might not make any difference in Sales nos. because of poor Portfolio, Dealer-Service Stn Network & brand image in India. Nissan made a mistake at the launch of KICKs by pricing it higher than Creata. It looks big from exterior but offers sub 4 mts cabin space, especially the rear seat. Nissan & Renault both offers big boot space & compromises with Rear seat area. Once a model is rejected by all Indians its rejected forever. Its very difficult to bring back customers to showroom unless Nissam offers big discounts, 5 years Warranty on major parts, 5 years free maintenance with consumables & 5 Years free RSA. Only than Indians might develop that Trust in Nissan & Renault. Biggest fear among Indian is both brands may not survive for long in India because of their dated offerings & sales nos.

@@KT-de8oe Magnite is just a Kwid on Steroid a mix of Datsun Redi-Go, Kwid & side profile of Kicks on light weight Triber platform. Like Go+ & Triber, Magnite also will have light weight, poor build quality but loaded with feel good features & underpowered Engine. And priced well to survive in India. और क्या हो सकता है. Nissan might fight amongst its own siblings Triber, Kwid & Redi-Go, Go & Go+. Might attact Maruti Alto, S Presso & Wagon R 1st time buyers segment.

Wrong information brother Higher length and width and the boot space is rather smaller than creta More spacious than creta 2 years free warranty and with 20000 for 5 years and RSA included Its cheaper than creta What to do with thousands of dealers , most of the cities have Nissan showroom and with pick and drop facility , why to worry about service
@rajoosolanky780
@rajoosolanky780 3 года назад
@@scholescantona I have measured the back seat comforts of Creata, Kicks & XUV300. Kicks has the least because of low seat height & legroom space as compared to Creata & XUV300. Creata & XUV300 offers both Petrol & Diesal. XUV300 has power, space & better Service Network than Kicks. Creata for overall Package offering. You got to consider all aspects - Brand Value in India, Engine, Efficiency, Cabin Space Comforts for family, After-Sales Service Stn Network & Standard warranty on all major Parts. They discontinued Diesal & introduced 1.3 Turbo Petrol for power at Diesal Price but it lacks the efficacy of Diesal. They should have discontinued their Good for Nothing 1.5 Petrol & should have offered turbo at slightly higher price. They keep on repeating mistakes & hence have landed to mire 60 units per month Sales. Thats under 1000 units per annum. If figures does not change than Like Captur they would discontinue KICKs any time in near future.

CVT does not come in top variant and does not have leather upholstery you have shown in the video. It is misleading. Only manual variant comes in top variant. It looks like it is done on purpose to mislead customers. While driving, gearbox is not in view.

Hi Vishal, as of now there is no update on when Nissan will introduce a facelift for the Kicks in India. As for the Kicks facelift sold globally, it is based on a different platform altogether and won't be coming to India.
@imvishalsethi

@@carandbike thanks for replying. But Nissan need to fix the ergonomic issues in the interior. Like difficulty in applying hand brake, no storage under front armrest, media controls behind the steering wheel rather than on it, no cup holders in front.. These issues need to be addressed for the better sales response of the car. And if that happens along with the Facelift like what it is globally, then I believe this would be so desirable car.

Why the review of the Cvt. Okay hear me out l, since already the sales of the Kicks is down and only some driving enthusiasts will approve the kicks due to the new 1.3 inline-4 but since turbocharging it's full potential is unlocked with a manual transmission so I guess Cvt sales will be even further below so please make the performance review of the Nissan Kicks 1.3l turbo manual.
