Australia may not have a car industry per se any longer, but the 2022 Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior proves there is still plenty of engineering know-how on these shores.
The Warrior is the work of Melbourne-based outfit Premcar, which was tasked with toughening up Nissan’s popular dual-cab in an effort to take on the likes of the Toyota HiLux Rugged X, Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Isuzu D-MAX X-Terrain.
To that end, wholesale changes were made to the chassis, suspension and wheels and tyres to improve its off-road capability without unduly compromising its day-to-day liveability.
It looks angrier thanks to the wider tracks, wheel-arch flares and chunky tyres, but the engine remains standard. A six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic are both available, priced at $68,090 or $70,590 respectively plus on-road costs (unfortunately there was a price rise shortly after this video was shot).
Of course, whether all this work is enough for the Navara Warrior to take on the category heavyweights, well, watch and find out!
