Nissan NV 1500 2500 3500 Sliding Door Fix- Trapped Inside 

Flipping my latch has jammed my 2016 2500 completely. It will not open at all now.

Thanks. Got it going. Did everything except the backup handle. Will return later if need be. For anyone else, the Torx screw at 3:18 is size T30.

DO NOT DO THIS! Flipping the striker around made the door bind up so badly I had to yank on the individual release cables with vice grips to get the door back open

Thank you for the tip, if it ever happens. However, my issue is with the passenger front door not opening, not the slider. Have you ever had that happen? I have to find out how to remove the door panel with the door closed, more than likely going to have to remove the passenger front seat to get to it, and after that, I don't even know if the panel will come off. The only way to access the latch mechanism is to remove the door panel from the inside. It's going to be fun, and I wish I could find a video of that, but I can't.

wish i watched this video before i just spent $1k at the dealership - they boasted they fixed the problem- very next day - got locked in. going to try this - kicking myself in the butt for not youtubing first . $1k in new parts and labor i didnt need replacing .

Be careful. Do not flip the hinge like he said. I did it and now the door is completely stuck.

I am a fleet mechanic and i work on these vans almost every day , 1500, and 2500 but no 3500. THe drivers beat on the vans, and they are always having issues with the door not opening, on the 2500's which we call a High top, the rear cable going to the rear upper latch (only on high tops) it loses its tension, there is a way to put your hand inside the door panel on the latch you cant see and push on it to get it open, then i litteraly remove the latch. I take it right off and there are no issues.

Thanks for that tip, I turned the latch around and will wait and see what happens. The first time this happened to me was on a big hill. When i got to level ground it opened. Those arrows you found I think are the key. i drive a 2017 Nissan Hitop NV 2500. Thanks again, should have been a recall,yes.

Took delivery of Very used NV2500 2019. My assembly is just as loose. But every single one of the cables is for both side mechanism(both handles are severely loose. I do feel that my interior button has more force needed to push. Pulling as you did it only went so far. Before one or multiple points stopped any further movement. Here's the kick to the bag.. we load it with forklifts. I will safely say door is bent. Will also add the foward lower frame mount is the most solid point.(that's where we are hung.?) Will be back to update after I get it figured out. I may just remove the whole door. .. Great Video!

Hi ya,, i have a 1993 nissan fx rio van, my friend kicked the sliding door last year, it,s never opened since, it was a light kick

Tried the latch flip. Jammed solid. Normally I can hold the latch down on the inside and hip check it open when it jams. Not this time. So I dove in pulling the inner (cardboard on steroids?) panel and the plastic seal. Low and behold, there is a tension adjuster for the rear middle latch. Tightened it up by moving the bracket which holds the outer part of the cable. That did it. Hope this helps.

Thanks buddy great fix. I got stuck inside mine yesterday. Had to do some work to get out the back door.

How did you get it open

I have plywood floor boards that run all the way across to the door panel and I was able to pull the top of the panel out and also the top of the plastic sheet inside and release the latch so you don't even have to remove any pieces. Thanks for the video!

My 2018 HR side door just locked up for the first time, after a few suspicious deep lever push openings and being aware of this 'known' problem. I held the lock open and kicked the door near the handle to open. Although I did not see an obvious tension adjustment as mentioned in the comments below I did discern that a few zip ties at the top of the cable end clamp chase would in effect shorten the cable. Lucky for me I have a screw on birch panel and the 'repair' took maybe 40 minutes, in the field. Thanks for your contribution and inspiration! -S P.S. I took some photos to process latter ;)

Drilling through the panel to fish wire through the hole connected to the latch like you showed in the video, the extra leverage or torque cause my siding door to open. Thank you very much for this video.

Ive jammed the sliding door trying to have a extension cord (which is wrapped in duck tape to make it thicker to prevent the door from cutting the cord) plugged up to a building outlet to power a heater for the inside of the van smdh

Good job. now alot more safer. Hopefully noone will pull that cord while the van is moving. i don't like sliding doors but i understand their advantages.

I have the smaller NV200 model and, like you, having the same problem with the passenger side door. The only difference is it opens fine from the inside, but will barely open from the outside. I removed the inside panel like you did in your vid and looked for some type of threaded linkage that can be adjusted but there's nothing. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue so that it opens from the outside?

The business I work for just purchased a brand new NV 3500 high top, and on the very first day of use, this problem arose. I followed the steps and flipped over the eyelet that you flipped over and now I have no more problems with it opening and closing. I don't know about the arrows though. Those arrows are definitely confusing facing different directions, no doubt about that. The part actually looks correct bolted in the way that it is. If you look at the way the eyelet is shaped, it looks like it should properly line up and seat into the door latch the stock way, even with the arrows being screwy. But, I'll hand it to you, the fix works! What worries me is that I think once you flip that eyelet over, the latch no longer grabs onto the eyelet properly. I think the jaws of the latch stay open and then the high top doors are completely reliant upon the left side door latches keeping the door from opening back up. I would take that with a huge grain of salt though! I'm definitely NOT and engineer! Just someone who wants their brand new stuff to work like it's suppose to. Thanks, NewZona Rides!

Not all NV models have the unlock function enabled on the side doors.

I added the cable and I can pull the piece all the way up but I am unable to pop the door free do I need to do anything else to free the door?
