I've been wanting to film a little tour of my Van and this is like the third time I've tried to do it, and still not satisfied with it, but done is better than perfect so here you go. There are few minor technical glitches, like the that is a Carbon Monoxide not Dioxide detector etc, but you get the gist of the video.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Vantastic...light years better than my nv200 camper. I was sceptical about turning my passenger seat around, but now realize, when not in use, having it folded down retains the full stealth factor.

Not bad at all, just disconnect the Airbag first. I think I did have to elongate one bolt hole a tiny bit. Only drive with the seat down as that keeps the airbags from going off, and don't let passengers ride there. Do at own risk...blah, blah, blah.

This is really good information. I got an NV200 with the company when I bought it, and It is set up as a work van. I dont like the layout and I want to build it out as a combo work/camper. I think your layout here and cabinet design will work, with just a few adjustments. Thanks!

I see people do this a lot, maybe because people don't realize that carbon monoxide is heavier than air. But Scott_PDX, your CO detector is higher than your head while you are sleeping. You could have a deadly CO buildup while you are sleeping, and be smothered by it, before your alarm ever goes off. You want it lower than your head at least, and near likely sources of CO, like a stove, heater or places exhaust could come in.

I got the windows at Van Windows Direct. You could order them and have a local Auto Glass Installer install them if you don't want to do it on your own. I haven't seen a back window that opens on these vans, they are pretty small openings.

How does the van do on forest roads with the low clearance? Any lift on the van being considered? Does it feel underpowered going up mountains?
@ScottPDX
@ScottPDX 3 месяца назад
Depends on the forest road. Gravel roads are fine, dirt with ruts and big lumps, not as good. Did not consider a lift for that vehicle based on it's design. Power was fine for general running around and over normal US mountain passes.

Great video, I'm inspired! I live in Beaverton, just bought a brand new NV200 3 weeks ago. I'm just discovering van life. Leaving OR in a few weeks. Wondering how you made the insulation pads removable? Did you make the bed yourself? Any premade beds you could recommend?
@ScottPDX
@ScottPDX 3 года назад
Thanks Joann. The panels are held in place by velcro strips. The fuzzy carpet acts like one size of the velcro, and the "hook" side is stuck to the wall. Yes, I built the bed myself...there is a video on my channel on how I did it. Look up the Built to go channel for an easy bed option and build using Ikea stuff. Good luck on your new Van Life!

I have questions: Did you have to make new bolt holes to turn your passenger seat around? If yours is 4 cylinder, have you used it up any steep hills (or any hills)? How did it handle hills?
@ScottPDX
@ScottPDX 3 года назад
The bolt holes are "nearly" in a square pattern. There 3 of the holes matched good, one was off by about 1/8". I elongated that hole with a round file/dremel. The hole in the base that I elongated was in some very thick metal, so don't feel that I disturbed the integrity of the metal at all. It is reversible still, but do this at your own caution. Be sure to run with the seat down to disable the side air bag. My van is a 4 cylinder gas US model. Hills have not been a problem, even towing a small trailer.

@ScottPDX

You aren't supposed to tow with the US NV200 at all. There is ZERO tow rating. That being said, you can add a CURT hitch and wiring and tow a small trailer like that with no problem, as long as there isn't an issue. Do at own risk of course.

@ScottPDX
@ScottPDX 3 года назад
I mounted it backwards. There doesn't seem to be enough room to add a swivel without major changes to the center console, and then it adds height to the seat and not sure there would be enough room for it to turn around in that small space. I went the easy route.

Is it a bolt for bolt matchup when you turn the seat? Or do you have to re-drill some of the holes?
@ScottPDX
@ScottPDX 3 года назад
It was mostly a complete match up. There was one hole in the seat that I had to elongate slightly, about 1/8 of an inch. The floor of the van has the bolts sticking up, so the holes are in the seat base and are roughly in a square pattern. One of the seat base holes is in pretty thick metal to elongating it still left plenty of meat left. If you do it, be sure to keep the seat folded when travelling - That will disable the side air-bag that is now pointing at your head. Read up on doing the mod and do it at your own risk (Disclaimer). ;)

Undo the 4 bolts holding the seat down, and disconnect the airbag connection under the seat. Bolts are mostly a complete match up when you turn the seat 180 degrees. There was one hole in the seat that I had to elongate slightly, about 1/8 of an inch. The floor of the van has the bolts sticking up, so the holes are in the seat base and are roughly in a square pattern. nice video, couple questions please. how tall are you"? do you think you could do 30 days in the van comfortably without the rack on top? and what did you pay for the van? i've been looking at these and the ram city. thanks be safe
@ScottPDX
@ScottPDX 3 года назад
I'm 5'-10", the bed I built is 6'-2". If you slide the drivers seat forward you could get a few more inches. I'm sure I could do 30 day trip, as long as I could get out of the van a bit during the day. Ideally in warmer weather where I could lounge a bit or hike etc. When I bought this van last year, new they were going for about $22k, I bought a lightly used demo one for a few thousand less. At this point, I'd look at the Ram and Ford closely as the Nissan has been discontinued in the US. If I had the funds I'd have a Sprinter.

This is really good. I am considering full time in such a van. Yeah, it's a little small, agreed, but worth a try I figure! =D I'd have to add the plumbing, fairly big water tank and grey water, plus DIY compost toilet would be fine with solar and some big batteries. Your layout seems like a perfect start. I won't have many things right now so it wouldn't be overflowing with 'stuff'. Laptop, clothes, and frankly my food stocks are the most of all my belongings. :) Non-perishable things like pasta, flour cans. Thanks for the video. This is most useful.

Good luck Joe. I highly recommend a roof top box if you are full timing. Its easy to fill up living space in the van with stuff. Lots of videos out there of folks full timing, but it can be small.
