i always admire and like how these engines start on the button compared to modern engines. I am sure the indirect injection was more cleaner than direct injection
great series of videos. I have a GU, but everything here is relevant.. Great kudos to the mechanic, he seems to know his stuff.. (Needs more ZD30 content though 😁 )
Missing one main round seal ,it goes on the shaft the filter screws onto ,nissan sells primer pump with that seal as package ,the seal on its own cost 7 dollars ,without it air gets into fuel system! And yes makes big difference
Talking high EGT's I used to have a Crd Patrol Ute with the sensor prob in the manifold, hottest I ever saw that get to was 760 degrees... towing 2.5 tonne in 37 degrees uphill 😳
Can just put diesel on the o-ring as that's what it will be coming in contact with. Will do the same thing. Nice vid lads. Appreciate your struggle with the fuel filter.
great video mate! just a question, whereabouts is the fuel pump or is it injector pump? located if you know, on a y61 ZD30 2001 wagon. the car just died to me on the road not too far from my house just before shops stopped trading for the day. Any information would help. thanks
When you take a look at petrol injector cleaner and diesel injector cleaner it's the same ingredients hydrocarbons, any ideas to why companies would label them different? price is always more on a diesel injector cleaner too.
I would like to know why you didn't prime the the Diesel Filter with fresh diesel before you install on housing, yes you have an electronic lift pump but great wah to force air into your system... Also hose clamp your fuel lines before removing to keep air out of system and also will stop any dirt, grease, or other contaminates
How often should all the fluids be changed, obviously engine oil is every 5000 but what about diffs, gearbox, transfer case, fuel filter, and coolent be done in a TD42?
Funny you guys talking about those EGTs, you have to experience the 300 TDI life, 400 is the norm, 650 up a big hill is expected. 750 is when you need to start being scared.
Hey guys, @dan what’s the idea/benefit of draining the coolant from the drain bung on the block? I’d usually drop the coolant from the tap on the radiator or pull off the bottom rad hose. Wasn’t aware of a coolant drain bung on the block 😅
@@dachickenwingx1721 the earlier model td42 gq's had them on the passenger side must have been before 1998, id imagine when they went from the silvertop to the blacktop but who knows
Early gq 4.2s are on the passenger side all 2.8 gqs are on drivers hence why everyone chances 2.8 fuel filter mounts to run second battery and bigger air box
My 1989 td42 factory fuel filter point was on the passenger side, bought a fuel relocation kit as they called it off patrol apart and relocated it on the driver's side to get red of all that unnecessary fuel line and added in a pre filter now it is an absolute pain in the ass to change the oil filters
It is possible if you look after it my mates td42 silver top has 60 psi patrol he’s had it for 3 years and it’s living the dream just service it every 5000 to 10 000
How dose that primer pump work? As in dose it turn off after its primed or is it a constantly running pump (only asking as mine is doing a similar thing to what James did)
Cheers fellows will help me out a lot love the videos btw there aren't many people doing just general stuff with a td42 mine is a silver top but either way "same same but different"
You would need to squirt time it, but I dont think changing the timing would be a good idea? maybe Up the fuel a bit to make more power, but wouldnt want to turn it up much anyway or it will just run hot and probably burn pistons or exhaust valves, theres a fair bit of work involved with running high boost safely
leaks (Oil and Coolant), look for smoke and turbo,(if it has one) and check it for blow by (when warm and idling take the oil fill cap off the rocker cover, it should not be pressurized). these are just a few little checks
The laziest way to de-cap a beer..... Also dose james usualy sway while sitting and explaining something that the majority of audience is zoning out to???
