Doing a Service on my GQ Patrol some tips and tricks that might help the DIY

It was time to service the GQ Patrol
now i try and done this every 5000km and through id take yous along with me on what i do hope this might help someone out.
I like to change most filters oil, fuel and air with ryco brand but its also what your budget is.
Ive found ebay to be the best bang for buck if your planning it in a week or 2.
My oil of choose is Penrite and i try and buy this when its on special as you can save $$$$

I use large ziplock bags to put over the filter after I’ve cracked with filter pliers then I unscrew the rest by hand making shaw bag covers end of filter only spill little bit and doesn’t spill all over starter motor or engine bay.

Another one to watch is the small O-ring inside the water trap at the base of the filter, I had one fail not long ago and it had me stumped!

Top video. Always cover your positive terminal with a rag when pulling out that dipstick so it doesn't spark. You had yours covered I had to find out the hard way.😅

Compared to my old 80 series cruisers with 1HZ engines there's not much space under the bonnet of the patrols is there

If you use Z503 filters from the GU they are a finer micron filter good for turbo td42, My next job is to fit TB42EFI front rotors and twin piston callipers to the TD42 GQ

How's the timing, same situation as those radius arm bushes and drop boxes I had and then your video popped up. I've got a pile of service parts for my patrol that are sitting there looking at me 😂 I use that exact penrite oil too, seems to be pretty decent, uses less oil compared to some other brands. The EFI brakes and a general freshen up definitely improved things for me, pretty well replaced everything with new or rebuilt. Only thing original is the metal lines, seems to be the theme, open up a can of worms and then keep fitting things 😂

I went with the marks4wd kit, braided hoses except the two front caliper hoses as they twist while turning and braided hoses are a no go apparently. Bit pricey for the kit, but all seems great.

Hey mate, any reason you use 20w - 60 engine oil, I have a 92 Ford Maverick (GQ) and run 10w - 40 . I’ve just clocked over 300,00 ks the old girl seems to be running ok ,cheers

Hey mate I basically just run off the Penrite app thats whats recommended i change mine every 5000km

G'Day Byron, I am in the process of replacing my 25 year old denco turbo system for a new HPD system. My question is - is the sump on the 4.2D easy to remove while engine is in engine bay as I need to drill a hole for the turbo return oil line. or is there an easier way rather than having to take the sump off. Love your vids buddy.
