A warm welcome to everyone checking out my latest RU-vid video!
In this episode, I share with you my thoughts on this 1993 Nissan Pulsar GTIR Series 2 RB Autech. The GTIR was a car built purely for Nissan to enter the Group A WRC and so in order for them to enter, a limited run of Homologation cars had to be built. Sporting a Turbocharged 2 litre, four cylinder SR20DET with an advanced ATTESSA AWD system it promised a very competitive little package.
The GTIR "RB" is the ultra rare stripped out, race, rally, homologation GTIR and factory upgraded by the iconic Autech tuning house in Japan, it makes this vehicle one of only 39 in existence according to the GTIR Database...
So is this vehicle really fitting of that Hyper Hatch nameplate?

These things were crazily modified in NZ back in the 90s. Back then we had the pleasure of a lot of these rare type JDM cars. Definitely a bit of nostalgic seeing this car lol. Thanks for the memory. 👍🏼

I have owned two of these. My first one was around 2004 it was 500HP and built like a bullet. THRASHED it daily and nothing ever went wrong. The handling was on rails. Raced many lambos ferraris skylines amg's and many others and they couldn't catch me.. the look on there faces was pricless. Was one of kind and badly miss it ! Unfortunately not many around these days that were prestine condition like they used to be.. lets hope they keep them alive and healthy!

Good to see you feature my favourite hot hatch from the 90s, I also happened to see one on the west gate freeway which I got really excited as it was the first time for me to see one. They're also called baby Godzilla and had the better sr20 motor out of all the sr's, that's what I heard from watching other videos that other you tubers did on it. I would love to own one as it would be dream for me and make 4 5 or 6 times more power than what it came from factory.

Alotta Kiwis knew there was something special about these little Cars like the EvoZero, LegacyRS and GTiR. Prob be hard to find one of those 3 unmodified, even had a highschool mate modify a GTiR many years back. For a Female?...she did EVERYTHING the Boys would have loved to do. I hated her for a long time 🤣🤣🤣🤣👀😭

@@rwd323 You’re not wrong. But that’s the thing, there was so much candy to choose from, we were definitely spoiled for choice. A lot was wasted, crashed, thrashed. I’m sure if some new now back then, there would be a few good examples still lurking around the streets today.

Thanks Clay, excellence as always with a fab review! The GTI-R turned out to be an average rally car and was pulled from the rally curcuit after less than 2 years. Top mount intercooler, the then average Dunlop tyres and the knock sensor (robbed up to 60Hp in hot condtions) all contributed to it's lack of Group A success - Stig Blomqvist achieved 3rd in Swedish rally and a young Tommi Makkinen not far behind. It had it all; but was not wasted. It is a better road car than Delta Integrale EVO (which is the ultimate rally hatch of the Group A era). GTI-R are rarer now and as a Japanese Performance road car from that era (find a good one, though), only eclipsed by the GT-R itself. Not sure if this one you've tested is a real RB - only the door cards attest to that. "RB" had grey cloth seats with vinyl backing borrowed from the base model, 2 spoke plastic steering wheel and no ABS, no parcel shelf. Looks like an S1 too... Nice one overall though.

RNN14 101016. Seats and wheel were changed for the series 1 well because they are better. Stock RB seats and wheel were pretty much throw away items back in the day getting the car ready

I've got a stock Q pulsar, same interior. I swapped the bonnet for the GTiR bonnet and it now looks mean asf. Even for stock, it packs a decent punch when it's running at peak. It's by no means fast or powerful, but it definitely takes off and gets up to speed.

I had one of these 1994 model running stock with just induction kit exhaust and bleed valve and a dump valve making 320bhp, it was black with black tinted windows 18inch massive wide 5 spoke chrome wheels made it look like a drug dealer or pimp car, cops were always wary of stopping me. it was fast as fuck and so much fun. lift off over steer was unbelievable beautiful on this car, then my mate bought it an put some silly little 15 white rally rims on making it feel skittish and not solid and planted like the heavier 18 wheels. it would storm past 160mph pulling hard. owned a lot of cars and this was the best. perfect power split for beautiful sliding.

Different cams, cylinder shape, solid valvetrain, has a distributor not coilpacks. This SR20DET 54c is unique to the GTiR. Sr20det 53js come in everything else.

hi clay should do a video on my gtir 350kw on e85 neo vvl 20ve p12 forged with gtx 30 gen 2 Garrett straight cut gears haltec platnium 2000 ecu 1750 cc injectors flex fuel it redlines to 9200rpm stainless custom exhaust system. external fuel system in boot and battery in boot I took out a new Lamborghini in 3rd and 4th iam in Brisbane love you to do a video on my car

Not the SAME motor as the silvia, very very different. 4 bolt mains for a start. shares the SR prefix, not the same engine.

20-30k as of late, varies a lot depending on the condition. You can get an SR20DE powered N14 Pulsar for wayyyyy less, but obviously it'll be FWD and naturally aspirated.

Itbs are not an upgrade on the gtir. Those cars came standard with itbs like the gtr skylines. An upgrade would be like fitting a sr20ve/sr16ve head that has variable valve lift and timing and larger valves and ports compared to normal SR20DE and DET engines.

I own 2 of them. Their Achilles heel is the shit gearbox, they can’t take much more than 350whp through them or they shred 2/3 gear or shoot the main shaft out the back of the case. Nissan could have done a much better job with the transmission and it would have been a serious contender
