Please suggest me if having the epedal option on at all times is a good idea. I get 43-45mpg with that mode. Would you recommend turing it off in motorways and back on 30mph roads?
@TotallyEV
@TotallyEV Год назад
Would just depend on how you drive, but on the motorway, it's probably easier on your knees and feet to have it disabled. In town however, having it on can help recoup energy, thus maximizing on efficiency!

Good review honest and fair. I took one out for test drive end of may and e-power tekna. Having tried many makes of this style of car found this excellent for head room did not have to duck getting in or out (I have neck issues and can't bend neck down) the drive was excellent smooth and quiet with smooth power delivery. Brilliant trunk space gets my wifes extra large wheel chair no problems. So I ordered the e-power tekna on the spot. Now have to wait till end September for delivery. Only complaint is no CD player 😡

Any EV is great unless you go on a road trip, the range worry starts to take effect, try and find a charger, available, that works, doesn't rob you, does need to download an app, and one in Cornwall. EV for town, diesel for a road trip for now. Enjoy, good review.

I had a very high spec'd e-power last week as a rental whilst my own car was being repaired following a bump. Overall I was impressed, you sit quite high and it has a nice smooth ride and plenty of power. It feels well made and good quality inside. The numerous external cameras were a nice feature. However a couple of things really niggled me. Whilst using Apple Car Play, I found it impossible to change radio stations!! I can assure you that's really, really annoying. The auto wipers were absolutely rubbish, and on a rainy day I was forever having to toggle the switch to clear the window. Also, the firm seats were, after a short while, not very comfortable. But as I say, an overall very good car.. but for nearly £40,000 it ought to be!! My own family car is a very highly spec'd Golf Mk7, and I was pleased to get back into it. I should also add that I have a Porsche sports car, and when that is being serviced Porsche always give me a Macan. Now, my point is that if I were in the market for a car like that there's no way I'd pay the extra for the Porsche, which seems very similar to me in many ways to the Nissan (albeit lacking the pace and powerful engine sound), but much, much more expensive to buy and no doubt run.

I have a Renault Scenic 2014, & the wipers are terrible, like you I have to in light rain keep flicking it too wipe mile after mile. The manual with it's selective gap is the best to have, but oh know not the French. I also hate auto dim on rear view mirror, if when in town all you see are headlights, when seeing the lanes behind you is essential is best & out on the road you can shock horror just flick the mirror for night driving. Manual seat adjustment is best than more electrics adjusting that will go wrong.

I have the mild hybrid version, Tekna+. I have put 14,000 miles on it from new. Never had any problems with the transmission. It is silky smooth. The only little niggle is with the stop/start. It can get a little confused when slowing up. It sometimes cuts the engine prematurely, before restarting. I just turn that feature off, as it can be a little disconcerting. It might just be a software problem on my particular Qashqai. Everything else about it, is brilliant.

I have a 2022 Nissan Qashqai N-Connecta e-power. Over the UK winter months the average mpg has been about 40. I’m guessing this is because running the heater uses the battery and causing the petrol engine to kick in. I’m seriously hoping this improves in the summer months.

Excellent review. As a Qashqai 4wd 2-litre diesel driver, I am a little ambivalent about EV's. My next door neighbour has a MG ev and had to wait 3 months for a dented door to be repaired. My daughter has a Tesla (which she calls the 'milk float' due to the constant overnight recharging) which she had for full tax relief purposes and is adequate for visiting clients around the West Midlands. For domestic and pleasure purposes she reverts to a Mazda MX5 diesel for safety and reliability, especially for her young children. I do rely on the 4WD option which notably helped out of a flash flood in the middle of Wales. Although the E Power is very attractive, I would opt for the Mild Hybrid technology, 4WD powertrain.
@TotallyEV
@TotallyEV Год назад
Thanks for sharing! Although, do find it funny to think that your daughter would pick the Masda for the family and safety haha. Don't think that's as practical nor as safe as the Tesla? Of course, when it comes to long distances, without wanting to stop, it's the easier option.

3:08 - inflating? do the manufacturers decide what figures get quoted? or do they all do a standard test which gives a result they have to publish? could it be the standard test that is at fault here rather than a case of manufacturers "inflating" numbers?
@TotallyEV
@TotallyEV 11 месяцев назад
That's a good question. It should all be done via a standard test, but given the variances from manufacturers, it would seem it's not always what it seems. Ie. when you have some quoting 215-250mpg figures in the mixed WLTP test cycle, when in reality it'll get between 40-70mpg, it does make you wonder!
@leesmith9299
@leesmith9299 11 месяцев назад
@@TotallyEV that's because the test is different to the average drivers routine. and how each car performs in the average routine vs standard test has random variability. the test is at fault. the PHEV figures is a whole other ridiculous can of worms. the standard test is completely inappropriate. a single mpg figure is completely inane as the efficiency in terms of petrol used is almost completely determined by the distance covered between battery charges. you can make that number infinity mpg if you go 10 miles on EV mode in a PHEV that can easily cover 20 miles. or very low mpg if you do 600 miles making the EV range a tiny portion of the whole length of journey you measure the mpg on. the tiniest bit of thought on that stat and it's clear it's just pointless. but again - who do we blame? the people who set up the inappropriate test or the people who are forced to report the result?

Intruiged by the concept. Everybody knows the grid is going to have issues supporting all the charging stations. Tesla is deleting charging stations and as the profits fall so will others meaning no gas stations for battery EV users. Everybody knows the ICE engine is most efficient when it picks a steady speed and stays there. E power sounds like a nice transition until battery technology improves. No range anxiety, lots of fuel stations but you can run the car on a smaller engine meaning better fuel economy and fewer emissions. This is technology the masses will accept.

Can't believe you haven't mentioned that the Qashqai doesn't come with a spare wheel. Massive own goal by Nissan, along with other makers, to give you a tube of gunge that only gets you 50 miles should you get a puncture. I would never buy a car that doesn't come with a spare wheel even if it's a 'space saver' type.

The key words here are "only EVs and plug in hybrids will be sold", not "only driven"! Besides, that fact applies to all hybrid vehicles in the market, not to mention it's a long time away.
@TotallyEV
@TotallyEV Год назад
Indeed, but the person here is referring to the hybrid technology being different than regular PHEVs which usually net better MPG on shorter trims and have more eco credentials than self charging models
@jamed63
@jamed63 Год назад
@@mariopolchert Yes, its standard hybrids that will be phased out with ICE cars, but they will last many years, I have a Toyota myself. I would say this Nissan falls into the standard hybrid category as it dose not have a significant electric only range! so its a lot of R&D etc for the 3 new car sales cycles between 2023-30 (eg only 3x 3 year leases) PHEVs with an EV range of at least 30 miles will continue to be sold until 2035.
@pavek
@pavek Год назад
You totally missed the fact it's a global platform/vehicle. Not only in EU you'll be allowed to drive an EREV vehicle maybe in 2045, but elsewhere in the world you'll be able to buy fuel vehicles well past 2035. Plus, e-POWER vehicles are being sold since 2016, which means it's not a new project. I guess it's totally fine to spend money on research for something you'll be able to sell for decades. Isn't it?

All hyrbid cars are fuel efficiant in city driving the most after that country side. They are all terrible at motorways. Any prolonged driving over say 90 km/h like commuting to work 5 days a week is terrible for any hybrid. If one drives like that they need a lean diesel, those are the best for regular highway driving. Seems you didnt do you reasearch and bought a car with an engine that doesent suit the driving you do at all. That is your fault, not Nissan´s.

@@jamed63 But then it would be an EV, wouldnt it? It amazes me to see how many logiclally challanged people are commenting on Hybrid cars. Not everyone lives where thay can charge a car. That means Plugins and Ev´s are gone, not an option. The option left is petrol, diesel and hybrid. Many countries, mine included, tax diesels to hell. A normal diesel car would cost over 1000 pounds a year in tax here. Regular gas car is viable but i pay 2,3 eur a litre and a suv gas car will eat close to a litre of gas every 10 km. So thats where hybrids comes in. My Kia Niro does about 70 mpg spring - summer- autumn and about 50 mpg in the worst 2-3 winter months. Tax is 36 eur a year instead of the over 1000 eur a year it would be with a diesel engine. And btw hyrbids are for city and countryside driving. If you commute on motorways a hybrid is a terible choice
