I've seen few videos on RU-vid and I was quite wondering why no one tried to remove the A/C compressor when it the best way to do. Here is a video with my frenglish accent , don't judge lmao
Just wanted to say thank you! Your video helped me a lot to replace my Alternator. What a pain in the butt, to have to remove the A/C just to get that bottom back bolt!!! About 2 hours from start to finish for me! Thank you again!
Thanks for posting, it helped! PB Blaster and most of the little 6mm heat shroud bolts came out, minus one, had to drill, tap and rethread. I was able to leave the fans, rad hose and battery in place, although it was tight quarters and tempting to remove them. I did remove the a/c from underneath in order to access that bolt . I DO recommend removing tire, fender well, as you need to remove the belts, might as well replace both.....PS pump belt was painful to find pivot bolt, locking bolt AND tensioner adjustment was again very tight quarters. NOTE: The new/rebuilt alternators has a "sliding" bushing on one of the two lower connection bolts It is to ease the insertion of the alternator onto the mounting brackets and it will close up upon tightening. It will squeeze down to make the correct distance needed, I was concerned about it moving the 1/4 inch needed and possibly cracking the housing, but it will slide.
I totally agree that it's faster!! I just did this today. Last week, I changed both belts and the pulley, thinking that might be the reason for my charging issue. So today, when I replaced the alternator, I took the compressor off. Makes all the difference in the world!! Plus, if you take the heat shield off at the top (four 10mm bolts, plus two for the bracket holding the wires) it gives you more room to get in there. This was the best video by far!
