Just had a thought. I know you’ve said you’ve replaced this many times. Do you ever change the piston? If no, follow up: could a failing piston cause too much stress on the plastic part of the hinge?
Great video. Took me 20 minutes to fix my '11 titan tailgate. One useful item: your tailgate comes off from removing the cables then with the tailgate almost down, pull out the drivers side and pull to the left to undo the passenger side. HAPPY IN Colorado. I owe you a six pack!!!!
I CANT BELIEVE NISSAN STILL MAKING THIS BAD DESIGN FOR MANY YEARS ON TITANS I JUST LOOK FOR A VID TO FIX ON MY TRUCK I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND ON A 2017 TITAN.THEY BEEN PUTTING THE SAME PARTS AS I LOOK ON THE VIDEO . THANKS FOR THE VID I LEARN HOW TO FIX MY .
Thanks for your effort in putting this video together chapman2212. I have a 2010 Titan and had the same issue. Would not have been able to make the repair without your video! Not sure I'll buy another Titan with all the issues I've had.
Dear Sir, thank you for the good video. it seems as if Nissan's design philosophy for a tailgate assist is very different from the other manufacturers. When you look at other tailgate assist videos the shock arm is mounted to the side of the tailgate where the tailgate cables are. For Nissan it is inexplicably mounted inside and under the tail light and tailgate. No wonder it was impossible to find a part number for the EZ Down or DeeZee tailgate assist for a 2015 Nissan Frontier NP 300. I hope someone from EZ and Deezee reads this and makes a tailgate that can easily fit and easily be installed on to the NP300.
My tailgate has been broken for about 5 months now (same year Pro 4X). So glad I came across your video, looks like a task I can do myself. Thanks for posting!! Now if I can only get my heater fixed.
Thanx for the video. I have the exact same truck, color version year everything and mine broke just like yours. Just ordered the parts online $44 shipped. Thanks also for the part numbers.
Thank you for the video. My tailgate just broke on my 2014 Titan. Great information here. I'll wait till Spring time to do the job outside, as now we have cold winter in Ontario.
I had to replace the right side hinge on a Frontier (Titan's little brother) ...breaking hinges seem to be a weakness...cup separated from the baseplate, where its swadged (sp?) in...the replacement hinges came through of thicker gauge steel, but I welded the swadging just to be sure they didn't blow apart again...Hint: THE TRICK to getting the bolts out is to get them toasty with a torch to defeat the threadlocker! Without it, there's a good chance to strip them. Also, access to damper ball connection might be better if you remove lens and go in from there, rear of hinge hardware was accessible like that on Frontier. Cheers
Had the same problem on 2011 about a month and a half ago. My new hinge didn't come with new bolts. Didn't think to put threadlock back on the bolts either. Hope it doesn't work loose.
If ya add a little heat to the torx screw from the back, the torx screw will easily loosen up. Just a heads up to anyone trying this. I have a MAP Gas torch that worked perfectly.
My hinge would not release from the shock even with the light assembly off. Even with a pry bar and the clip totally removed. Will not come off so it doesn’t just pop off
chapman2212 Nissan should be able to sell just the plastic part by itself. I am ordering a whole hinge and will be replacing them soon. Thanks for your video.
I know that... I mean I know which would be my left and right side behind the truck. What I want to know is if the tail gate has 2 assistant parts (left and right side) or just one part located on th right side of the truck ?. Now if the tail gate assistant has to parts (one for each side) wondering wich one to buy (right or left side)
@@chapman2212 all automakers have stuff like this. On our Ford SUV I've replaced blower motor resistor 5 times and hatch hinges 3 times. Poor design. Only option is to buy new parts that keep failing.
