Measurements of cargo area with rear seats up.
Length of cargo area (measured at floor level to edge of floor panel= 97cm
(You could add a few centimeters but it would get close to the tailgate latch recess).
Width between wheel arch interior trim =98.5cm
Overall width of cargo area measured at D-pillar/bottom of window = 133.5 cm
Width measured at widest point between side recesses = 138cm
Height of roof interior panel from cargo floor = 82 cm
Height of roof interior at lowest point near interior light = 81.5cm
Tailgate aperture as measured at trim near rubber seal:
Max width = 113.5cm
Minimum width towards roof = 95.5cm
With rear seat back folded flat (but seat squabs fitted)
Length of cargo area = 163cm from edge of cargo floor to rear of folded rear seat base. With seat bases removed and front seats slid forward, you can get a 2.4 meter long fence post in the passenger side. Of course that all depends on height of occupants in the front seats since they might not be able to slide front seats forward and still be able to drive safely.
The rear wheel well interior trim panels are an awkward shape because the wheel size and arch clearance but also the fuel filler pipework also takes up room. It's still a big area and I've carried a new oven in still in its protective packaging in the cargo area with the rear seats in position.

Danya Anderson It's also a fat old backbox which makes accessing the offside rear anti rollbar mounts a bit of a sweary challenge. If I take it on a pay and play offroad session, I'll look to removing it before a tree stump of rock does. 😄

Planning to get one of these used. Thinking real hard now if the comfort of more space versus a sedan like civic or altis is worth the fuel costs. Used prices of X-Trail is way less versus more popular brands in my country like Toyota, Isuzu and Honda. Note: no diesel version available here, and all ATs. The frequent flooding aspect also is one big deciding factor to get a crossover. Any feedback on it's cost of ownership? Thanks for the vid.
@TK42138

We've owned our DCi Sport for nearly 4 years. In that time, it's averaged 36mpg. Apart from usual servicing costs (oil & filter change every 6 to 8 thou miles) it has needed new front shocks (McPherson strut), antirollbar (sway bar) droplink, front suspension arm, brake caliper and an intercooler which was leaking air. Car has now done 147k miles. I do my own repair and servicing which keeps ownership costs way down. Petrol T30's are generally reliable so long as car has been looked after. The 4x4 system is far more effective than Honda CRV. Just look at the number of T30 and T31 driving through deep mud videos on RU-vid. Be aware that T30 can rust badly under rear wheel arch and shock mount/inner turrets. Only way to check is to remove rear plastic trim in cargo area. The turret are multi layer steel and is a known corrosion point.

Ok so the distance is 163cm from trunk to front seats but you lost a bit with middle seats, if you remove completely, can you mesure for me? I need the distance from the back of the driver seat to the trunk door ? I wonder if a 190cm sleeping platform can fit in?
@TK42138

Hi, just measured the load area length from the closed tailgate to the back of the front seats which have been slid back assuming a tall driver and passenger and rear seat base removed entirely. Load area is 180cm long as measured at cargo floor level. If front seats are slid forward for camping then there will be more room but any bed base would need to allow for the centre armrest & storage between front seats.

There is an inner wing splash guard but there is no actual lower crank pulley cover so auxiliary belts (power steering/alternator and air-con) can be accessed.

Hiya, thanks so much for this video. Very helpful! If you were to remove the "top part" of the rear seats how much space would you win? Thinking on buying on of these to convert into a small camper for 2 people for weekend away!
@TK42138
@TK42138 2 года назад
Hi, thanks, glad it helped. If you removed the seat backrest then you would save the 'volume' that the back part would otherwise take up but you would still need to make some type of platform to keep the floor entirely flat and level otherwise it will dip down because seat backs form part of the floor load area when folded flat . You could always make up a timber frame that still enables a flat floor without seat back and place sheet material such as plywood or even a cut-down internal hollow door which are quite rigid and you'd have storage space in the rear seat footwells.

@TK42138
@TK42138 2 года назад
@@davidfernandez2805 Just measured the thickness of the seat backrest 14.5 cm as measured through ski hatch. Width of rear passenger footwell as measured between sill (inner rocker panel) plastic trim panels is 134.5cm. The width does reduce slightly at door handle height to about 131cm as these do stick out slightly from the rear door trim panels. I reckon quite a bit of useable space if rear seat rests are removed.

The T30 scored 4 out of 5 by EuroNCAP which is pretty good safety rating for an older design that's been around since 2002.

Can u also tell the difference between T30 and T31.. Are they the first gen and second gen respectively??
@TK42138
@TK42138 7 лет назад
+Ahmad Shumayal Yes - the T31 is second generation (from 2007 to 2013 with changes during 2010) and has slightly longer wheelbase. The 2.2 136bhp DCi diesel was dropped and a new two litre diesel was used which had bit more power. As there's a lot of changes in the model generations, might be better to check with google. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_X-Trail

@TK42138

If the rear seat squabs are removed then there's 180cm from tailgate inner to the back of the front seats but more if the front seats are moved forward. I've carried a 2.4 metre fence post with front passenger seat folded flat without the post touching the dashboard.

@TK42138
@TK42138 3 года назад
According to the XTrail UK Facebook group it's a case of getting an exhaust fitting centre to make up a bit of pipe of the same diameter to replace the rear backbox. Several members have done the backbox delete. No part numbers though as it just needs spare lengths of pipe, some clamps and rear mount.

@TK42138
@TK42138 4 года назад
Hi, if the tubes are 2.4 metres or less in length then they will fit if front passenger seat back is reclined flat. Anything longer will be either sticking out the window or resting on the dashboard passenger airbag which is a bit risky.

Sorry TK, I'm not that familiar with English :) I mean the distance from the rear seat to the gate (I meant 'smaller' than the load compartment you measured in the video). Thanks for the availability, I need some measures to understand if it could be the right car for a big dog (but with rear seat up)!

Your English is very good. Length of cargo area with seats up measured at floor level to edge of floor panel = 97cm. You maybe able to squeeze in something a few centimeters longer but it will be close to the tailgate latch recess. I've now updated the info in the video description. The plastic load area/suspension turret trim panels do intrude a fair bit into the interior space - especially on nearside where the fuel filler pipes are located. The T31 didn't have struts at the rear (just compact springs and damper setup) so bit more interior load space.

did your intercooler leak oil already?
@TK42138
@TK42138 5 лет назад
When I bought it, it had a new turbo but seller didn't change the original crimped type intercooler. It started to drip oil (all turbo diesels will have some oil residue inside an intercooler from crankcase breather system, EGR and turbo) onto the radiator hose but more importantly it was leaking compressed inlet air under boost which caused hesitation under load and if not fixed - will cause turbo problems. I fitted a fully TIG welded intercooler which solved the leaks and hesitation.

@@TK42138 I ordered welded intercooler, but my turbo (or engine?) already start making strange noise something like: wu wu wu wu wu...
@TK42138

Can you video the engine running and upload it? Might be able to pinpoint where the sound is coming from. Turbo faults such as leaking intercooler, associated hoses and pipes will tend to make a whining or hissing sound.

@TK42138
@TK42138 7 лет назад
+Ahmad Shumayal If AC isn't cool enough, it could be down to airflow restriction through clogged up pollen filter, low gas due to natural reduction over time or a leak or slipping aircon pump drivebelt. If the plastic knobs stuck solid or just hard to turn?
@DanyaAnderson
@DanyaAnderson 6 лет назад
i absolutely hate the deck in the cargo area. seems weak, creaks and bends a lot
@TK42138
@TK42138 6 лет назад
Danya Anderson Does yours still have the foam plastic spare wheel insert that fits around the tyre? This should prevent any squeaking or noise. There should be some felt pads on the edges of the removable deck to stop noises. If they've fallen off or compressed flat over the years, this will allow plastic to plastic contact and noise. The cargo floor isn't that thick in cross section so bending moments will occur if load isn't distributed evenly. A thin plywood section cut to fit deck area will reduce flexing. Might be worth having a close look for cracks in the lip of the removable floor as this will also cause excessive flexing and noise.

BikeRidinManiac Took me nearly 6 months to find an Xtrail that fitted my criteria - had to be the DCi 134bhp, full history, no towbar and pre 2006 so no diesel particulate filter. Had to change front shocks last year as they were leaking (143,000 miles) but apart from that and fitting a tig welded intercooler (originals are crimped and leak air and oil), the car has been brilliant. When I replace the exhaust backbox I'll fit a less bulky version.
