LIKE if you think electric 2-wheelers could tempt you out of your car & SHARE if you want the world to go electric Niu scooters are currently the best selling scooters in the world - and they are electric! Designed for an urban environment, this Niu GTS-Pro is not built for high speeds or long ranges, but it has enough of both to make it the perfect electric solution for commuting and last mile deliveries. It has two batteries, both of which can be removed to be charged anywhere making charging easy but not the fastest. It comes with an app and some cool tech which allows users to see how the scooter performs as well as locate it and turn it on remotely. It might not be the fastest two-wheeled electric vehicle, or have the biggest range, but it's comfortable, enjoyable to ride, nippy and lets face it, it looks pretty cool! These go too fast for being classified as a moped/scooter since they go up to 43 mph or 70 km/h, and a moped/scooter can't go legally faster then 28 mph or 45 km/h, so you probably need one of the motorcycle licenses, and if you have a motor license that is great, but why would you limit yourself to 43 mph or 70 km/h? Probably not safe to go on the Motorway if all the other traffic goes at a minimum 20 mph or 30 km/h faster then you can go, on highways in the Netherlands the max speed limit is 100, 120 or 130 km/h, i don't know if in the UK there are roads where you can go faster than 60 mph though, but that would mean in the Netherlands other traffic can go 30 to 60 km/h faster than you. (including lorries, and they will try to overtake you, they already do when another lorry is going 100km/h) - So you probably need a motor license to operate these. - Probably not safe to go on the 60mph+ roads with other traffic being much faster. - Not allowed to go on bicycle paths (speed difference between bicyclist and this is too large) Why not get an Electric motorcycle that can atleast safely maintain motorway/highway speeds? at a minimum of 60 mph or 100 km/h, you might not be the fastest road user but on roads lower than those speeds you can atleast keep up with the other traffic and not be a nuisance like the hated cyclists that has to share the road with the car driver. Or if it is solely for city driving, why not get an Electric moped/scooter that can't go legally faster then 28 mph or 45 km/h? So it falls under the AM license. (more people probably have an AM license than an A, A2 or A1 motorcycle license) for some positivity, i like the design and removable batteries.
Well done story. But he should have mentioned the Niu GTS-Pro, is just one of many electric two wheelers that NIU produces, to address the naysayers issues with this model. And I did not hear anything directly said about ride SHAREing, other than some of its security features which has fueled its growth. Just hope the company hints come true and it willl be built and sold in the USA too at some-point.
It's really great you're giving EV 2-wheelers coverage, but pleeease don't say "is this the Tesla of ... ", that's pure clickbait writing, the FC Show is better and more educated than that.
Awesome Niu is great love to see more Chinese stuff and hope to finally people will see China can do anything from crap stuff ordered by crap people that then complain about the crap they pay less for all the way to high end luxury stuff.
I am a NIU owner since more than one year and I am very happy with the vehicle. I already did 6000 km with it (about 3728 miles). A couple of corrections: - The turning signal sound it's indeed cringy but you can change it. There are 7 different sounds you can choose from already installed in the vehicle - The electric motor is not inside the body of the scooter, as the gentleman implies. Its inside the wheel of the vehicle, in the rear. Important detail, since this means that the scooter even lacks a transmission belt: one less piece that needs maintenance or needs to be changed eventually! Thanks for this video!
@@roidroid I paid for mine around 3200 pounds (3600 euros) and it was the top trim model with also a helmet box. Nowadays the same model is around 150 pounds cheaper because of greater incentives.
I live in Germany and have used a Niu Scooter like the one in the video for my daily 11 km commute for over a year now (summer and winter). Apart from a few minor niggles I'm very very happy with it.
TBH, the electric bikes in China have had removable batteries for many many years. They pull them out and take them into the flat/office to charge. You can even plug them in at various places along the roads...many places have chargers specifically for this and charge for the privilege, of course....often they're (push)bike places, and offer other bike services like repair/etc.
Most of the modern electric mopeds have removable batteries now - super soco, niu, horwin, artisan etc all have lightweight LiIon batteries which can usually be quite simply removed. Makes them great for commutes as you can charge at work!
Great review. In depth, covered all the necessary points and if I was in the market for a scoot this would definitely go on the list. More 2-wheeled content please (hint hint: Energica)!
There's no doubt electric scooters are better in pretty much every conceivable way, and seriously thinking of buying one at some point, but I love the smell of Castrol R in the morning. ;)
@@TriviaChallenge I do actually. I don't even own a bike right now, but hey lets make random assumptions about strangers on the internet. You obviously don't look after your giraffe, you horrible negligent Giraffe owner person. ;) ..Two strokes were already well on their way out before electrification anyway, just not Euro 4 compliant (which is where bikes are up to now), so the comments pretty tongue in cheek. I mean like watching/listening to some classic two stroke wee banshee of a small capacity racer, but that doesn't mean I think it's what I want my pizzas delivered on.
Yep, those 2-stroke engines aren't just smelly but they spew out carcinogenic hydrocarbons like Benzene with good dose of Carbon Monoxide too. Your body isn't just chocking because of smell! Sad.
Nothing better than a two stroke motorcycle! Steve ... you need to educate yourself. I see they have solved the lubricants on problems of 2 strokes... they may even be coming to F1 !!
@@maxflight777 Exactly! Electric isn’t the only possible future either. F1 is also going to be run on 100% synthetic bio fuels in the next few years, so it will be interesting how this affects road cars for 2030 onwards.
I love this so much. I live in Naples and the city will definitely be a much, much nicer place to be if/when it transitions to things like these instead of the horrible and noisy two-strokes that basically run the city at the moment. I hope Piaggio are taking note and will make their own soon!
@@Benjamin_Jehne The fancy "Vespa" range aren't really that common here in Italy! They're more an export thing. Like the way you see way more Fiat Pandas than 500s here. I want to see Piaggio make their entire range electric, including the Apecars. Not just the trendy high end ones!
@@adamfrancissmith5511 Piaggio only wants to sell millions of Noisy petrol scooters They are another ICE dinosaur 🦕 in the scooter world like GM, Ford, Toyota.
I am a proud owner of the model in the color that you tested. I rode about 1000km in central european city traffic this year and it more or less saved this horrific year for me. You should also mention that it costs about half of its European/Italian rivals. And it is about the price of a good e-bike. Also, App, battery technology and the charger are excellent. I love it!! One more thing: acceleration from 0 to 30kph is instant which makes it very safe at traffic lights.
I know it's not a scooter, but I use cruise control all the time, particularly on 30mph roads. It's not only saved my licence but makes for a much more efficient drive. I imagine that's why they have it.
Plenty zipping about London! :) As highlighted in the video, a lot of these are used by delivery riders because of the ease for recharging one battery while running the others.
Maybe done it on purpose to cut out wind noise while riding, and didn't want to have the hassle of moving the mic between shots. Maybe it was still too noisy with a wind deflector.
@@ChronicIllnessChannel Maybe the Voice Over would be the solution. Less standing - more moving with good sound. I hope that this guy watch this/his video and won't do never ever same mistakes with the sound.
I was really toying with buying one of these, but it just isn’t fast enough for National speed limit single carriageway roads (60mph). I live in rural North Yorkshire with a 26 mile round-trip commute. If there was a 125cc equivalent electric bike that could manage to cruise at 60mph with ease at this sort of price point, then we’ll have cracked it 👍🏻
I believe there is a 125cc equivalent from Niu - the top speed of these things is mostly down to controller software and mostly there to comply with moped regulations in countries where that matters - e.g. some countries let you ride 50cc on a car license, but 125 requires a proper bike license.
Yes, more powerful motor(s) may also allow for better regen too, letting the disc breaks take it easy. An all-wheel-drive version (ie: dual motors) could be an option if it's difficult to fit a single bigger hub motor.
Horwin CR6 is an electric motorcycle with a range of around 75mph and a top speed of just under 60mph. 125 equivalent, so can be ridden on a CBT. The Horwin EK3 electric scooter will be available shortly and has a top speed of around 60mph I believe. The NIU NQi GTS models are limited to 45mph. They are very nice scooters though!
I have a NIU scooter. It works indeed. Also it will differentiate between different kind of tempering: "vibration alarm" (someone just bumped into it), "unauthorised movement" (someone actually moved it), "battery removed". I think there's also a "fallen down" notification. Luckily I've never experienced that.
@@ColinRichardson OK, here it is... Hang on, if the connection between the scooter and the app on your phone is over Bluetooth, then how can it let you know where it is, if its been stolen? By definition, it'll be out of Bluetooth range! Is it possible you read the specs about the Bluetooth connection and "assumed" it might be an anti-theft device without understanding that Bluetooth only works at short range...? Does the manufacturer actually call it an anti-theft feature? and if so, then they need to answer how this is supposed to work, based on Bluetooth
@@ashrashand6039 I would expect that featyrw to be a 3G or so connection and everything else be Bluetooth. I keep hearing Bluetooth being used when there is not even a Bluetooth protocol in sight most of the time. I think a lot of the time they use it as a catch all connectivity buzzword
Would be good to see Government incentives for scooters likes these, say Vat free I would definitely buy one then for my daily commute of 40km round trip
Who is your insurance with? When I asked for a quote from a two wheel specialist broker they would only offer third party. Fire and theft and fully comp were not available. This was for a Super Soco CPx but I would imagine the same would apply to any two wheeler.
@@MK_ultra_ Thanks for the update. It turns out that MCE were the insurers who wouldn't offer me anything other than third party. I'm guessing my postcode location is working against me though I live in a decent quiet area. Hey ho.
I do believe that the equivalent of Sentry Mode will eventually migrate to a lot of the stuff we temporarily leave behind. Andy's sporting the proper 90's look 😎 This scooter is such a nice piece of kit, we need them on the road ASAP.
I would like to get one of these but the pricing is sort of messing with my head. Specifically the fact that the second battery adds 60% to the price, it makes sense because it makes it a different category of vehicle, both practically and legally, but the difference between $2900 and $4600 is kind of huge and has me looking at gas-powered scooters. Also the knowledge of how cheap they sell in China. None of which is entirely rational but it makes it more difficult to decide.
hello, thanks for introducing her to us i actually did the trade with a loan from my friend and now with the profits I payed up and now am happy and comfortable
The mode drop is at 15% already. The regeneration is only at breaking, you'll see it in the display. The indicater sound can be toggled between different sounds. Use this with one battery will max to dynamic mode, only 45kmh available. If battery's are 15% away from another then also max dynamic mode!
When the point about riding with 1 battery was discussed, we always point out to our customers that you need to remember that you won't be allowed to go into mode 3, ie you only get to 28mpg/45kmh
Well done story. But he should have mentioned the Niu GTS-Pro, is just one of many electric two wheelers that NIU produces, to address the naysayers issues with this model. isnt it super sad (and telling really) that legacy brands like Piaggio only came out this year with their first escooter which is overpriced and does not have removeable batteries. Same goes for BMW who, after having gone the too big/too pricey with the cEvoltion are now doubling down announcing (no price, no specs yet, still "in the pipeline") their CE 04 which pretends nobody but them has tackled electric urban mobility in the past ten years. The arrogance! Electric cruiser in five years, no electric GS ever! I guess its all up to Zero, Energica and maybe Harley if they the Livewire right
I have the NGT with the Chinese Software Update. It will do in eco mod 50, in dynamic 70 and sport 90. great little Scooter for getting around and even for short tours
if vehicle makers stopped designing and building cars and bikes like we traditionally do and say built a bike around a larger capacity battery, we would have vehicles that would go a lot further and faster. In terms of 2 wheelers, think of a brick with 1 wheel at each end in the middle. Then place a seat, handlebars, lights and controls in the appropriate places, we would have a much better proposition. As a biker myself, I know how much power you need to safely ride in traffic (no biker is ever truly safe in traffic), and sadly I don't think this has. Nor do these types of bikes have very good range, particularly when travelling in mode 3/sports mode. I am 57 now and sadly I believe that by the time these vehicles will be what I would describe as fun, I will be too old to enjoy them. Life eh!!
Not really the Tesla of scooters, Super Soco CPX would be the Tesla with a 56mph top speed and similar range with two batteries, you have to consider two points why CPX is better, having owned a NIU and now a CPX. With a NIU to change the rear tyre you need to go to specialist garage and often get overcharged, on the CPX the entire rear wheel can be removed in seconds, engine does not need to be touched. Second, on the NIU bikes the location of the front indicators is terrible if you get any accessories as they cover them, not so on the CPX. The positives of the NIU are a better app and self cancelling indicators. Also the seats is tons better on the CPX, it has better mirrors, comes with better tyres and bigger wheels (at the front), maybe a CPX review next? 😬
They forgot to mention the torque which is 120Nm, equivalent to a BMW GS 1200 ;) ... this episode was poorly made in my opinion, Fully Charged usually got their info spot on, it missed other pieces of info too :(
Some versions count as a 50cc (30mph tops), so can be run on a car licence obtained before 2013, or with a CBT one day training course. 125 equivalent versions (45mph) require a CBT which must be renewed every 2 years, and L plates front and rear. Road tax is completely free being electric. Not sure about insurance though.
Good informative video, one point, you didn't mention. Re the brakes, the left hand brake lever applies both brakes, at 80% rear 20% front. The right lever applies 100% front.
Very nice scooter, beats putt-putt ones hands down for me! Are there many other E-M- Bikes around anyway? You can come and do some more reviews any day Andy!
Had the NIU N series for a couple of years and it’s great. Fun to ride and perfect for commuting to the station in the morning. Bit of rust coming through on the rear arms but other than that it’s great. (Also cheaper than most e-bikes)
I have owned one for two years now (only the one battery model though), never serviced or even washed it - still works absolutely perfect like the first day i bought it. Drive it to work every week, 52 weeks a year, right through swedish Winters. Only load the battery once a week - tops!
While I lived in Shenzhen (almost 5 years) I found that this was my favourite E-Scooter on the market, and perhaps it still is. It is waaaaay cheaper there, than in Europe though. :-) EDIT: Also, doesn't it have ABS or eABS?
We have a ton of NIU scooters here in Riga, Latvia as a ride share service. Great little machines. Driving experience and the the silence is amazing. Due how they are registered they are limited to 45 km/h and can be ridden on street or bicycle lanes from age of fourteen (with the right license).
Generally the best review i've ever seen on RU-vid, well done! these scooters are very popular at my local commuting train station. I'm getting one of these for when the work returns instead of risking my Triumph everyday, hugely popular & it is very funny in the evenings just seeing random headlights turning on as all the commuters get off their train
No because it would need a new "drive train". There is no drive chain or belt so there is nothing to attach pedals to. It would not be feasible to add the necessary sprockets/bearings with the large hub motor ... so unfortunately not possible with this particular design (some others do accommodate pedals because of different design).
Me too man, but trust me once you take this for a ride in the city you'll never use the bike in the city, anyway that's whay I did for the last 2 years ;)
It's pretty cheap as well at £2,156.00 compared to a Vespas £3,399, although a 125 Vespa will do 65MP with a bit of a wind behind you. The Mui still seems really good.
Well presented video of a product I’ll never buy, but I’m pleased to see these types of choice are available. What’s it actually classed as for the purposes of VED and insurance
Come check Taiwanese electric scooters. we got Gogoro, AEON, PGO and Yamaha, all of them provided scooters capable to reach a maximum speed of 105 km/h.
This! I don't understand why Fully Charged, who appear to be very environmentally conscious, are SO unconscious when it comes to human rights. Surely these bright people can't blame ignorance?
@@ApemanMonkey what I mean is, it's pretty radical to make every person or company in the country responsible for the faults of the CCP. It's like saying Robert should stop mentioning Tesla because Trump has inhumane policies towards illegal immigrants in the US
You may Check Ather 450x Much more elegant looking design top speed 80 km/h , 0-40 3.3 sec, range however little less range 116km just 4km, 7 inch LCD, Bluetooth . 6 KW motor and 3 years Warranty which is 1 year more then this Chinese brand. aww the price if i convert to GBP it is 1600 . Additionally the 9 inch screen is color display with navigation, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi which enable you to connect with your phone lol and this is tesla.
Great review, I'm not in market for a motorbike but am interested in how EVs are progressing. Quality content kept me watching to the end of the video.
43mph, around 75 mile range.....no thanks! looks bloody horrible! I have a Honda innova 125 which has the same range in the fuel tank and mine will do 120 mile per gallon! I take a 2 litre jerry can with mine, if I run short of fuel in the middle of nowhere I simply lift my seat and put some fuel in from the jerry can and I can ride for another 60 miles to a fuel station......if I'm in the middle of nowhere with electric bike I'm stuck! I know it's probably designed for urban but I like to tour on my petrol powered economical four stroke and not have to wait for it to recharge.
Nice upload thanks.....but 2 things, lol... 1/ You didn't mention uk licencing requirements on this despite you being "British".. .. Is it a moped? Or do you need cbt for it? And 2/You say you ride a motorcycle but struggled to put it on its "centre or main stand" by being totally on the wrong side of it, tut tut. If you were told to do that by your cameraman, he wants slapping for asking you to do it or you want slapping for saying yes 😉 😂
Audio is very poor. carderoid mic seems pointed away, and muffled by the scarf. +6db at 3khz would be nice for all. Maybe a reupload? Love this topic. would like to own this scooter. regeneration would be awesome downhill
Love Fully Charged reviews, but his voice has base mumble & I don't think it's his scarf or helmet. I know Instagram & RU-vid can butcher certain (stereo/ mono) audio files - just an observation. :-)
Really well done review and quality footage of the NIU NQi Scooter. We started testing the NQi GT from our shop in Vancouver Canada and are similarly impressed with quality and price.
Great video! Where was it filmed? Also, if its Bluetooth, how can you check on your bike with the smartphone app if you're not in Bluetooth range? I think it's still only 10 metres max.
Maybe a little more if there's line-of-sight and little interference. Tracking it via its GPS location though, surely it has to have a 4G mobile connection... and you'd have to keep that credit topped-up somehow. If so, bluetooth might only be switched-to at short distances. Maybe one of those telematics controller thinggies that uses those, and WiFi. Caveat I have no knowledge, and heresay knowledge.
Ive done 51,000mls on a FES 125cc Honda s-wing. Hardly polutes with a 125cc. better performace.. far more comfy.. better wind protection. better storage. still runs perfectly at 64k miles on the ODO. meter.. i cant see that any other form of transport can pollute less than this bike.. and its not silent which i think could be a real issue.
8:37 it does not re-generate when u realease the throttle. It only re-gen's when u use ur brake. It also indicates that on those moments on your display. Hard re-generation is very bad for the MOSFET's that steer the motor. Just drive it by looking ahead and brake more early yet more slowly so u use re-gen optimal. 9:53 you can change the tune.
I think because of the fact that is too tied to its infrastructure, before getting the Niu I wanted a Gogoro but they don't sell in EU. The main strength Gogoro has it's the recharging points, maybe that is the "Tesla of scooters" because it comes with it's own "charging" network :)
It's a nice electric scooter, it's perfect for the round trip from home to work and viceversa (16km). And ocassional 50km round trip to visit my father. I guess I would keep it in sport mode. Great video!
