When the BT connects to your phone and the dashboard light turns on with breathing blue light, you can press the power button to turn on the KQi Air without using NFC card.
So if i buy one from a private seller , they can reset the settings and eveything to factory , meaning that i wont know how the batter life is ? Like how many charge cycles it has on it and what not ?
You are not able to reset key information like number of battery cycles or number of total kilometers/miles on the scooter. Only custom settings and recorded rides should be gone. Also make sure the seller removes the scooter from their NIU account and you can link it to yours before finalizing the purchase.
Have you discovered that sometimes when you approach the scooter with your phone the Bluetooth doesn’t activate? And then the only way to start the scooter is with NFC card. Furthermore, once this happens you must pull the black cable out of the stem and pull the power in order for scooter Bluetooth to come back on. I’ve contacted NIU about this but heard nothing.
I have not come across this issue. But I mostly use the NFC card. I did come across a different issue when I have BT connected and are walking with the scooter turned off, sometimes the BT disconnects and the scooters locks itself. I then have to go in the NIU app and reconnect.
Not all NIU scooters, but the KQi Air does have added theft security, so you need to unlock it either with the NFC card or other NFC token you can create in the app, or by using the Bluetooth unlock feature with your phone. As far as I know there is no way to disable the security features and just turn the scooter on/off with the power button.
I just bought this scooter but for some reason I am limited to 15Mph top speed, I live and ordered this in U.S., I should have the 20Mph version, did I get the wrong product?
That is a good question, not sure why NIU used a different design on the box and website images compared to the actual production model. You could try asking NIU at Global-Service@niu.com if you find out let me know as well :)
When you first connect the scooter to your phone using the QR code the bluetooth connection wizard should come up, the BT icon shows only when there is an active connection to your phone. If that did not happen I would try to maybe unbind the scooter and connect again with the QR code, make sure your BT is active and see if it lets you connect. This might also help old.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/1d668ff/kqi_air_sharing_how/l6vfvow/
It can be a bit complicated at the start, but it is to protect your scooter from theft. Once you have it linked to your account and the NIU app, if someone steals it they won't be able to use it, and it will be a brick.
As far as I know there us no way to get past the 25km/h EU speed lock. Plus if someone finds a way it will void your warranty, so might not be worth the hassle.
Sorry for the late reply, yt put your comment in the spam folder. I guess you figured it out by now, but if not, you need to turn the scooter on with the NFC card. You can turn it on with the power button only when you already have the scooter linked to your phone and have Bluetooth unlock enabled.
Its on the nfc card cover, also on the box with accessories, and maybe couple of other places; when you unbox the scooter you should see it right away.
