Hi all. In 2021 I got into electric scooters both for commuting and leisure riding and since I already carry a camera with me all the time as a 'dash cam' I decided to upload some of my ride videos. That is at least how it started. :)
Since then I have also done scooter maintenance and repair videos, videos on useful scooter accessories and some scooter reviews. If you would like me to take a look at and maybe review your scooter or any scooter accessories feel free to reach out at Lantea13[at]outlook.com
1700km with mine and its still going strong, only issue with it is the breaks not working for a bit when its fully charged, almost got me killed a few times
So if i buy one from a private seller , they can reset the settings and eveything to factory , meaning that i wont know how the batter life is ? Like how many charge cycles it has on it and what not ?
You are not able to reset key information like number of battery cycles or number of total kilometers/miles on the scooter. Only custom settings and recorded rides should be gone. Also make sure the seller removes the scooter from their NIU account and you can link it to yours before finalizing the purchase.
For a low price I would recommend the NIU KQi2 Pro, on sale you can find it under $400. The Ninebot Max G30LP is also a good choice if you can find it for a similar price. You might find this comparison between the two helpful www.reddit.com/user/Lantea1/comments/14cjuhz/niu_kqi2_pro_vs_ninebot_max_g30lp_what_to_buy/
What do you mean by factory settings? If you want to sell the scooter you can unbind it in the NIU app and if you or the next owner tries to bind it to their NIU account it should show up as a new scooter, only the odometer and things like battery charge cycles will remain, but all other custom settings will be 'reset'.
When you first connect the scooter to your phone using the QR code the bluetooth connection wizard should come up, the BT icon shows only when there is an active connection to your phone. If that did not happen I would try to maybe unbind the scooter and connect again with the QR code, make sure your BT is active and see if it lets you connect. This might also help old.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/1d668ff/kqi_air_sharing_how/l6vfvow/
This was my very first e-scooter! Tubeless, self-healing tires and robust build quality are the foundation to all my e-scooter choices! I've upgraded to the Apollo Go now as my latest e-scooter but my Ninebot Max G30 still runs very well!
I haven't seen anyone try that. In theory anything is possible, but it would require extensive modifications. The better option is to just buy a dual motor scooter, or wait a bit and maybe NIU will release a KQi4 or whatever it will be called that will be more powerful.
If you don't use a string to fish the cable through you will have a really hard time getting the cable through the handlebars. Its possible but will take you a lot longer.
Hey man earned a sub! Your video helped so much when I was returning my kqi2! I ended up getting the kqi3 for $480! Really hope you make an unboxing video on that too
Thanks, always happy to hear my videos helped someone out. If I get my hands on the NIU KQi3 at some point I am definitely going to make some videos on it. Enjoy your new scooter!
This video should help ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sAZnTLp2qWM.html that shows the process on the KQi3. It should be very similar on the KQi2 once you have the wheel off the scooter frame.
Hi, I bought them on aliexpress for around $115, unfortunately when I checked the seller I bought from is no longer active. But if you search on there for nutt hydraulic brakes you should find other sellers. I have also seen a newer 4 piston version of nutt brakes being sold, so those might be worth looking into as well.
You can toggle it in the app. It activates automatically after a few seconds. Note that on EU models cruise control is disabled because some countries don't allow it.
I still have the stock oil in there, but if I needed to bleed the brakes I would probably use shimano mineral oil, or the blue magura oil. I would first check what colour the oil is inside the brakes. If you do a full flash any miniral oil for bicycle hydraulic brakes should work.
I tried with my kqi2 it was hard but manageable to get through with the right tools through the internal cable routing. I REALLY NEED help with kqi3 which not only shares the housing with the brake but has a gasket i can't remove. HELP
Sorry I don't have hands on experience with the KQi3, but I did find a service manual a while back over at www.trovaprezzi.it/manuali/niu_kqi3_pro_nero_rose_gold.pdf which might help you out. Not sure if its an official manual or not, just came across it few months back.
Hi, the helmet is very comfortable, only downside is, it can flatten your hair a bit depending on your hair style, but I guess that is the case will all helmets :D Overall I am very happy with it. As for wear and tear, after months of everyday use the surface has some wear on it, the internal pads are washable, and you can also buy replacement pads if they get too worn out, I am still on the original set of pads and washed them couple of times.
You press the button 1 time and e-save should turn off. You need to complete the short riding tutorial first. If e-save is blinking check the NIU app and see if you don't have dynamic mode turned on.
My solution for front halo light reflection is to cut a piece of 3/4 inch weatherstrip foam from Frost King and stuff it in between the gap from above works perfectly. Cost about $4 at Home Depot. 👍🏼
Error 33 is the "Battery open-circuit or imbalance warning". I hove not come across this error myself so not sure what might be causing it. I would recommend trying to reach out to NIU and see if they have any suggestion on what to try. My guess would be, if you haven't used the scooter for a year the battery might be too depleted for the scooter to start.
There is no way to turn off the back and daylight front lights. I believe that is a safety feature so you are always well visible to other road users no matter the time of day. On the newer KQi Air you can turn off the front light in the app, but the back light is always on.
I did it with my kqi1 and it worked great. Unfortunately, on the kqi2/kqi3 since the brake line shares the internal cable routing with the brakes, it seems nearly impossible to pass through the throttle cable.
On the KQi2 it is a bit finicky to get the cable through, but using the string method as shown helps a lot, and you can also try and use a pair of tweezers to get the connector through the last hole into the display section, which can take a bit of time.
Which model do you own? The EU model should show 25km/h on the screen, but if you got the DE model (I also think some other countries now sell the DE model) that one is limited to 20km/h.
@@Benkisaca_rd The German model is locked to 20km/h. I heard a while back NIU was working on an update for the German version to boost the speed a bit within the margin the law allows, so that probably explains the slight speed increase.
Did you try and ask them if you can buy a replacement battery and they refused to sell you one? If that is the case I would be interested to look into this further. If you can post a copy of your communication with NIU I will be happy to ask them about it myself.
What are you talking about, you can order spare parts direct from NIU over at niu.b2x.com/shop or contact NIU directly at Global-Service@niu.com Also there is no need to spread lies about comment deletion, your comments will not be deleted unless they are vulgar or use language that breaks YT terms of service and are automatically deleted by RU-vid moderation.
Yes, you should check the pressure after unboxing, before your first ride. Depending how long the scooter was in the box since it was boxed in the factory, it is very likely the tires need to be inflated. It is important to ride on properly inflated tires, riding on underinflated tires can damage them and you are also lot more likely to get a flat.
@@16phil16 I don't use a phone mount when I ride my scooter. I only use a cheap one from amazon when I am testing the speed with a GPS app on a new scooter. I would not really recommend the mount as its not very secure. Quad Lock makes good mounts but they are rather expensive. Do you mean the beeping when you turn on/off the scooter, or when cruise control activates, etc.? If so, there is no way to disable it, afaik.
I have a set of those brakes that leak from where they attach to the caliper are there any washers/o rings apart from on the bolt that goes through it?
I had the exact same problem of leaks from the caliper attach point. I tried several different o-rings, but did not manage to fix the issue and I ended up replacing the zoom brakes with NUTT brakes ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QWAlpi3jz98.html So far the NUTT brakes are much better and no more leaks. Sorry I could not help more, but I tried for months to source parts and tried different o-ring without success. No scooter seller or even zoom brake seller was even able to provide a manual for the zoom brakes or a way to buy replacement parts; they all just said I should buy a whole new caliper.
What sort of light, usually if there is an issue the scooter display shows an error code. Here is a guide from NIU on buying spare parts: "For the customer from the NA region, if you feel comfortable changing the spare part yourself, please follow the below-mentioned steps: 1. Please go to www.niu.com/us and scroll down to the bottom; 2. Click [After Sales] and follow the instructions on the pop-up window; 3. @Lantea13 there is no after sales button u just send people on a wild goose chase so it appears to possible buyers that the NIU has good support but in reality they have none
@@jasonsamuel4110 Yes there is an "After Sales" button, go to www.niu.com/us and scroll to the bottom of the website and its under "Service" see imgur.com/a/kDP0uhv
Yes the KQi2 can be ridden in rain, BUT keep in mind that water damage is not covered by warranty. That being said so far I had no issues riding in rain ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4-GrSpbhWH8.html but be careful.
No, I have not checked, but if enough people are curious I might do a video taking a look under the deck. But that will probably still not tell you the exact cells used.
@@Lantea13 so i hope, more people are interested. ----- beside some interesting Info: der KQI Air does only have tubeless tires and not selfrepair tires - some guys on youtube gave a false information that NIU KQI Air will have self repairing tires - that is not true. - i just chatted therefore with NIU support
@@Cool-ng5rh You are correct the KQi Air does not have self-healing tyres. NIU told me that is because they wanted to save on weight to make the scooter as light as possible. Personally I would rather have the pre-slimed tyres :)
@@Lantea13 this will be additional 2x60 Gramm so it is no more under 12 kg - but it is necessary to have a relaxed drive in my opinion - nothing sucks more than a broken tire on the. Trip
I've enjoyed your channel, very informative. I ended up buying the NIU kqi 2 as a first scooter, partially on your reviews, so thanks! You pointed out that the Air was very stable. What do you think this can be attributed to? is the angle of the steering tube/neck of the NIU Air noticeably different than the KQi 2? Thanks again for all the information and the great channel!
The angle is similar. I think the light weight of the scooter and especially the light stem/handlebars combined with the slightly concave deck design (similar to a skateboard) makes it easier to balance with your feet and thus making the scooter more stable overall. Thanks for watching, glad my videos helped you out.
How did you get the Replacement Throttle from NIU. They don't allow you to purchase parts from them directly. They make you go to the shop to have them repair the problem for you directly
Last time I ordered parts was March 2023 from Besender in EU, had no problem ordering the spare parts I needed back then. Nice Job, with you support I help someone else to get rid of 03 display pb. Mine is not a permanent one yet. And before ordering I would like to find a way to simulate a correct accelerator and see if everything else is correct. Thanks again.
Hey I just got my kqi2, love it, but one thing that’s weird is that the piece you push up to fold the scooter is a bit loose and vibrates/rattles when going over bumps. Have you also experienced this, and if so, how do I fix it?
I did not experience it on the KQi2, but I had a bit of a rattle on the KQi Air. I tightened the screw that holds the latch a littke bit and it helped. Try to see if any of the screws on the folding mechanism are slightly loose and if so try to tighten them a little bit.
