Wow. How did I go from "Never heard of it" to "Gotta have it" in just 13 minutes and 19 seconds? Great video Peter, and this is a lovely, lovely watch.
What a great piece of eye candy. This is a watch that hits well above its price tag. Beautifully understated. I wasn't too sure of the dial color, until it hit the sun. Just impressive color through the crystal. The theme of a vintage watch is very well executed here. Great review. Thanks
I have a nivada F77 I bought in Malta in 1990,it was NOS at the time, and looks late 60s /early 70s,also has brown dial gradiated light to medium.its a TV dial, cushion case, integral bracelet, hand wound, nice to see the brand revived.
Sheer class,I noticed the stained hands immediately and was happy to see it,thinking outside the box.It just adds a quirkiness and character to it,credit to the design team.I’m not a bracelet fan,but ot does look good on one,but particularly beautiful and characterful on the leather, imagine how that will age, like a good pair of Irish brogues. This will be on the wish list(bit long at this stage).10/10 for me
Ok. I watched this on my I Phone. Then my big IPad Pro. And then on the big screen in in the den. It’s a real beauty. Reminds me of an aged NTH. Thanks again Peter.
Lovely watch. Thank you for the review! I was also born in 1967 and a Rolex from that year is certainly well out of my price range too. I did pick up a Seiko from our birth year though. FYI Seikos manufactured in that year can be easily identified by their serial numbers which all start with the number 7, and have a total of seven digits. Seiko switched to seven digits in the sixties before switching back to six digits. The first digit of the serial number denotes the last digit of the year it was manufactured, and the second digit denotes the month it was produced. So for example a 7 digit Seiko serial number that starts with 71 was manufactured in January of 1967. If you were born in the 1960's, Seiko makes it easy to find a watch that was produced in both the month AND year that you were born. Cheers!
Man that watch looks good. I'm not one for the vintage inspired watches normally, but there is something about it. Now I have to convence myself that I don't need it, since I own an explorer.😬😁
As always, great review Peter. What an absolute stunner of a piece. That dial, on the leather, is gonna be stuck in my head all day. Thanks Mate, keep up the good work.
The final thoughts section as mentioned by you is so true.....I have a decent collection of Mechanical and automatic watches which include some very well known swiss brands etc, however sometimes when I pick up from my collection some very inexpensive pieces say HMT , Titan or even a Seiko or Tissot I find great joy in wearing them and Enjoy the experience.....so true....Price of a watch has little to do with the Joy one derives wearing them...completely agree with you on that one Pete.
I know I just might say this too often but your photography is down right stunning it really showed the high quality of thier timepieces Although I'm not a huge fan of the explorer design I can see owning this piece it blows the competition away and would go nicely with my Nìvada retro chronograph that I find myself reaching for alot even after the honeymoon phase Definitely a huge fan of thier designs and prices As always Thanks for sharing another awesome review my friend 👍
Plain 3 hands watch, clear bezel, nice fonts on dial, no Mercedes hour hand, sword minute hand, tropic dial, beeds of rice bracelet, beautyful lugs shape... ticks a lot of boxes indeed! Cheers Peter, enjoy (you'll get it, sooner or later, sure you will... plus you like brownish dials, don't you??!!!).
All together again!!! a small but happy family... "the good the bad and the ugly " Peter, Stavros, τα τσίπουρα δικά μου, ξηλωθειτε για τα μεζεκλικια!!
Κύριε, διδαξον του τα δικαιώματα του 🙏🍻a bocca do lupo
Looks wonderful but I'm unsure about buying a new "aged" watch. For me you have to live, experience and earn the ageing. It's a bit like buying a new pair of jeans with holes worn in them. Love your videos by the way.
Think of it as a Restomod car. The nice thing is--- it's new and works perfectly. You get the high performance of the modern engine and the look of vintage. It's a '63 Split Window Corvette with the technology and finish 2024! For an every day watch that looks upscale, but also appropriate in more casual settings-- how can you beat the price and value?
Really have enjoyed seeing this rebirth of this company. Some excellent models hitting the market and I can't wait to see where they take it! Hopefully have one in to review myself soon
I have been writing an article for Watch crunch on resurrected watch brands or ‘zombies’. Nivada Grechen was a me of the first ones I found. I love how their reissues are trying to replicate their beautiful designs they had in the 60s/70s.
Hello Peter congratulations for this one. I own myself a Nivada Skymaster Compensomatic from 1967 this one are also great i love vintage inspired congratulations
Late last year Peter I bought the Nivada Super Antarctic model number 32024A. It has all indices rather than numerals at the 12, 3, 6 & 9. Apparently there have been issues with the Soprod PO24 movement, but as yet & hopefully I won’t have any issues!🙏🏻😎 Lovely looking tribute watch.
Too much empty space on the dial, unfortunately. They need to beef up the markers and numerals, whilst also shrinking down the case size by a couple mm.
On the strength of the video and your review I have just ordered the no date tropical dial. The Pictures of the watch that you have produced tipped the scales in favour of a purchase, thank you Pete for a great review and cheers mate 👍 😀
Really nice, if it was 40 or 42mm,, ir would find a way into my watch box. If Tudor can make different size Rangers, then so should Nivada. There are people out there with larger wrists that are often neglected in this style of watch.
Beautiful watch! I have a black dial with the yellow indices coming right now. Bought it on a forstner beads of rice. Excited to see this one. The tropical was out of stock when I bought the other. Maybe some day the tropical on leather for the vintage look. Think I would distress the leather to match that spectacular dial!
Thanks for this review, you were so right about this watch. I got one two weeks back and must say this watch looks really gorgeous. Also, I really like the way you review watches. Would be great if you could review the Depthmaster series from Nivada.
A whole lot of polish for a weathered, tropical dial in my opinion. Cool watch though, but I am wondering if a highly polished beads of rice bracelet was the right choice.
I wondered the same thing throughout the week, however the dial in sunlight is mesmerising and supersedes any distracting shine coming off that bracelet
Nivada is putting out great products. I had one of the first run of these preordered and then decided on an Orange Boy Chronomaster instead. Love my Chrono but also kinda wishing I had one of these. They look fantastic!
idk about this one. having a field watch dial with fake patina lume is fine. but when you put it in a watch case with so many high polished surfaces, they just don't look coherent together. i have the same problem with hamilton murph. the designers need to decide whether they are making a sports watch or a dress watch first.
@@PeterKotsa yeah the braclet is very flashy as well. but i still think this watch would be better if the designers go harder in one direction, either dressier or sportier. i do like the classic dimentions of 38mm tho.
I really enjoy your reviews and this is fantastic. A beautiful watch. And aged very nicely. My reservation is SOPROD. Not that it’s a bad movement but I haven’t heard of it and so I get a little weary. However I previously turned up my nose at sellita and I now own two! Great review as always thank you Peter
Fantastic review Pete. I have ordered mine last week and it is expected for mid-February. I will put my coffee-brown alligator leather strap on this beauty and I am pretty confident it will look stunning !
Wow, this watch looks quality. Not sure it’s purely the watch or also your great video quality. IMO that lume is a bit too much but the colour of the dial? Beautiful!
Peter, I really wish you could review their other model: the Antartic Spider. A true blast from the past, with that crazy and yet very classy dial. Thanks for this great video! Cheers.
Very nice watch and Nivada is a great brand, and i havent seen so many ”brown” dialed watches, but i have wished for mb to make some.. Have a nice weekend 😊
Received mine today. Racer brown leather band. Awesome watch! You were bang on with your review and thank you! To your point the crown is a bit annoying but on the overall this watch with the brown dial and beige marks is awesome. I should point out that I was considering the omega railmaster but ended up with this watch at 38mm.
Lovely video, Peter. The Super Antarctic is simply gorgeous and seems to be brilliantly spec’d. I’ve read some rumblings (from purchasers of Nivada Grenchen products) of poor or indifferent customer service. Do you have any insight on interaction with the company? I am on the fence about treating myself to a Super Antarctic birthday present and don’t want to throw my $$$ down a big aggro-hole… Keep up the great work!
WOW! I can see that being a wear watch. Last week was my birthday and I decided to get the Rolex gold President Day Date out of the safe and wear it, special occasion. I was nervous wearing it, I might scratch ity or bump it. Put it back in the safe after an hour on the wrist. Nice to look at, can't wear it. I'm always wearing my Rado gold, black face with diamonds Diastar. Its my go to watch. I build a watch and its watch of the month, back to my Diastar. My familiar friend that fits perfect with spring constant adjustment, 28,800 bph and smooth second hand sweep, bevel crystal, day date at 6. Keeps great time day to day +3 secs a day, never needs a battery.
I think I’m going to buy this watch. It will be the perfect companion for my Explorer 😂 I hope it looks ok on my 15,5cm wrist. Thank you for another great video
I get it, the residue on hands and indices is supposed to create a vintage feel. But is it necessary to extend that to a flimsy looking clap with a pressed outer shell and pressed inner elements? I don't know. But after all this watch is surprisingly affordable for a Swiss made watch from a reputable brand which a rich history.
Sold … ordered one this looks lovely .., was thinking of buying a Tudor ranger tomorrow I will hold off for now and see opinion I still need the Tudor .. you may have saved me around a couple of grand 😊
@@PeterKotsa looking forward to it .. see how it goes but I’m even thinking at the price there may be room for the black non patina on leather too but won’t jump the gun .. my only concern is the size at 6 “3 I’m quite a big guy normally a 40 to 42 guy , although the ranger fits perfectly , should be ok no dive bezel generally make the watch look bigger ..
Love to see that they were able to be revived ... and "survived" a Pandemic on top of that?!? Kudos to them 💪🏼😎👍🏼 Thanks for sharing this beauty of a watch. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods ... it's seem just yesterday you were at 40K subs and now you're already creeping up to 42K! Looks like you're doing something right my friend 😄 Keep 'em coming.
I'm a diver bloke and this is ok. Wouldnt go mad, prefer more colourways for the dial. Not really my style, and I just think its a bit boring. Sorry old boy , and all that , its a decent watch, just not my bag !!! Great camera work and all that as always peter .
Wow, that dial looks spectacular. I've been eyeing a Nivada for a while and this review might just push me over the edge. The only thing holding me back is the Soprod movement, which has some issues. If it was a Miyota or a genuine ETA, I'd have pulled the trigger already.
Very nice! However, my Smiths has taken up the space for a 369 dial in my box. If this was 36, I would consider it. I feel like the smaller size would fit the patina/vintage feel more.
Great review. I own the original reissue of the Super Antarctic (no 3/6/9) in black/white/silver. I absolutely love it. The crown on the first run was not a mushroom but even slightly smaller although I find it still usable and like yours, mine is insanely accurate. It really did scratch my Explorer desire yet I'm so happy that Nivada has its own storied history.
@@theshadow1812 Unfortunately the 200m WR was an error. I have confirmed this with the company as I, too, had hoped that ours were 200m. Furthermore, I have also asked about swapping the crown and it can't be done as the case is ever so slightly thicker. This is what Nivada Grenchen wrote to me "After Checking, there is no 20ATM Super Antarctic watch, which is the reason why the website information has been changed as well. And with regard to the crown, It will not fit with the new crown as the case and the diameter of the old ones is diferrent to the new release. The Crown was changed from a small to a bigger size and the case back thickness has an additional 0.5mm."
@@alecjarnagin9041 that's interesting I got told I could change the crown, I received details on the costs how long it would take and how to send the watch back. as to 200m WR I got confirmed that the latest versions are only 100WR compared to earlier at 200WR
@@user-ct8hm3je4k Wow! They should get their story straight! Do you have contact information for this? I'd love to do it and get confirmation on the 200WR.....
After wearing the black dial with cream indeces for a few days, i am totally in love with this watch. It has really grown on me. Even the band! This watch is speaking to me. Thinking about maybe buying the tropical on the leather strap if available again.
That is absolutely stunning, in all its simplicity ! 👍 Being a chronoguy, I know their fantastic offerings in that market - but this is new to me. Great video!
Great looking watch, subtle but beautiful. I don't know if you have ever heard of them, but Geckota watches in the UK make a similar watch in 36mm called the "Airstream" generation 2. You should definitely check it out.
