Page's diction is exquisitely executed. Her beginning and ending consonants and vowels, onsets, and offsets are amazing, never getting in the way of her singing. Every singer should use this as a study in vocal freedom, character and artistry, and perfect enunciation.
My God, I'm amazed not just at what a wonderful singer Page is, but how she really ACTS this aria--such feeling, intention and real characterization. I've heard a few other Pat Nixons but none have inhabited the role like Page. They've sung the notes, but Page has made the role flesh and blood.
I worship Dawn and love her version, but I actually think this one better captures the meaning of the aria, perhaps because Page was steeped in the character.
