In July, 90 young individuals aged 18-24 dedicated their efforts to achieving a construction certificate, earning 3 college credits, obtaining OSHA 30 certification, along enhancing their math and soft skills.
Within the NJBUILD CARPENTRY WORKSHOP for Women & Minorities in Construction program at the Newark Workforce Investment Board, participants in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) engaged in a two-week construction learning session and a subsequent two-week OSHA regulations training.
Maplewoodshop collaborated with the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters to enlist union carpenters as instructors, partnered with Barringer Arts High School construction students through the Newark public school system to serve as teaching assistants and received support from Big Picture Learning and Harbor Freight Fellows to provide stipends to the teaching assistants.
