As a Giants fan, this was easily the most stressful game I've ever experienced. Philly seemed to get a man in scoring position every single inning, but the bullpen just turned them away. I knew that they probably wouldn't win a road game 7, so this was their chance to win the pennant. Damn what a feeling
MateoKalifas420 Yeah this was pretty much the beginning of the decline of the Phillies as a National League powerhouse, & the rise of the San Francisco Giants as the CURRENT powerhouse in the National League, & baseball for that matter, with 3 World Series titles in a space of 5 years. :)
MateoKalifas420 I wouldn't exactly call the Phillies team from that era a dynasty but 5 straight NL East titles is still impressive one way or another.
Henry I Yeah. Usually it takes more than one to be a dynasty. The Phillies were an NL Dynasty for sure, winning the NL East in 2007-2011, with the championship in 2008, the NL Pennant in 2009, and the top NL record in 2010-2011. I was thinking about them last week when they were playing the Giants that they reminded me of the late 90's-early 00's Rams in football. A great team that always contended and in the end, it's kinda hard to believe they only won the one championship. This team was downright frightening.
20:33 - Chase Utley RBI Double (1-0 Phillies) 24:40 - Jason Werth Sacrifice Flyout (2-0 Phillies) 53:50 - Aubrey Huff RBI Single with Home Plate Collision (2-1 Phillies) 54:49 - Throwing Error by Polanco (2-2 Tied) 1:04:32 - Chase Utley Flips the Ball back at Sanchez, which leads to a Bench Clearing 1:23:52 - Great Catch by Werth 2:59:33 - Juan Uribe Home Run (3-2 Giants) 3:43:15 - Giants win the Pennant
I was at this game. What an atmosphere. The electricity was out of this world. Ill never forget the sound of the crowd when Ruiz hit into that double play in the 8th or when the home plate ump rung up howard in the 9th
3:36:45 Leave it to Joe Buck to mention joe carters home run the WORST MOMENT in Phillies history while they are one out away from elimination. What a Jinx.
Giants too much for the Braves, Phillies, Rangers, Reds, Cardinals, and Tigers in 2010 and 2012! Roy Halliday, Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt, Derek Lowe, Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Ryan Howard, all just VICTIMS FOR THE GIANTS!
of course ozwalt hit uribe on purpose.. The right move.. uribe is batting close to 500 off Ozwalt. First base was open...personal and team redemption. then doubled him off to end the inning....brilliant.. , It is now 2020, I heard Howard is still standing there, like a house by the side of the road.
Look at the pitch location by FOX. Way too close to take that pitch in that situation. Even as a San Francisco born Giants fan, I wouldn't have whined if that pitch was called a ball. Take a pitch that close, you're leaving it up to chance. Morale of the story... protect!!
Michael Chiodo what are u smoking dude ? That ball was CLEARLY right down the middle at the knees. Howard got fooled plain and simple . I rmbmr this playoff year. Nobody gave the giants a chance . Great game !
Oh just let us Phillies fans enjoy those years. Yeah, yeah.. it wasn't a dynasty but never before 2007-2011 did they ever go to the playoffs 5 straight years in a row let alone go to the World Series 2 years in a row. It was the most successful 5 years of the franchise's long 127 years of futility and came after having reached 10,000 total franchise losses in 2007.
not even close..one was a fastball, the other a slide piece..one was from a LH pitcher, the other from a RH pitcher...one was inside off the plate, the other was a perfect pitch on the corner at the knees on the outside corner to nail down the Pennant..
Ben, Still Dodger Fan after we dominated you in your house and walked off win at ATT last night?! LOL tell miss piggy I said hi and try not to get 3 errors in a championship game.
