Well done Paul on your excellent delivery of this wonderful long term project. Always get hooked on your delivery. The very best of luck to all concerned in carrying out this mammoth task.

Thank you for a very full briefing, and containing critical insights, it reinforces my personal belief that history fades, and too quickly, I believe that we should generate enough interest and information to get not only my Grandchildren, friends, but casual visitors to start asking 'why?, what is?, how did? ' then give them the ability to find the answer. May it prosper.

Thanks for the detailed update. We live in South of England, but love all of Snowdonia, so when normality returns, we can visit again.

Fantastic video! Just wish the WHR would run more trains particularly in the high season.

Excellent, interesting, extremely informative presentation, very well filmed and edited (by Mr. W, I assume). Not sure I've ever had the patience to sit through a hour + RU-vid video mostly comprised of talk but that hour went quickly! . Well done Sirs!

Possibly the biggest issue facing all Heritage railways in UK will be suitable coal supplies. Once all the mines are closed in UK heritage railways as well as road steam and model engines will struggle. Shipping suitable coal from overseas is only a short term answer and the green brigade will soon get that shut down. We need a continuing supply in UK. The government is in favour of HR and has excluded it from future clean air legislation. The problem is local councils have control over coal mines, has can be seen from what happened in Newcastle. I have written to my local MP with a very positive result. I urge all of you to do the same if you wish to see beautiful steam locomotives running rather than being static in museums.

i think you are right about the issue with the future supply of steam coal, I think its a problem because very few kids today know what its like to hold a piece of coal in their hands and felt the weight of it I first held a lump of steam coal when I was around 11 years old

Excellent ideas, especially what the lottery has suggested. One feature I would love would be able to watch live TV feeds from the locomotives (cab ride) 7 days a week. Yes, that is a tall order but the ability to be in the Welsh Highlands at any time would be a huge and welcome feature. This could be a 'pay to view' service bringing in some additional income? In the future travel could become more restricted due to many factors, certainly at the moment, a view anytime option would be very welcome. U-Tube videos are great but they don't generally run 'Live' feeds. However, I firmly believe being able to travel 'live' from the comfort of our homes is going to be the next big shift in our viewing habits. I'm in my 70's and travel is becoming more wearisome and 'live' travel has great appeal even if I have to pay a premium to obtain it.

Interesting video with an interesting perspective. Of course there will a time soon when the railway will have been a tourist attraction longer than it was an industrial railway. In general as generations go on, the heritage part becomes less important to those who are directly connected to it. My great Nain & Taid worked in Dinorwic quarry. As a welshman im not that particularly bothered about the tips etc - Rose tinted glasses. In general It wasn't that long ago we campaigned to get them removed for road hard-core. Obviously trains and machinery are more tangible. Its a bit like Robin Hood Gardens in London, the people who lived in them wanted them knocked down, but the ruling classes wanted them listed. My main problem with heritage and world heritage sites in Wales are that it just turns wales into a large playground for Upper middle class kids, and let's face it, a lot move here to avoid having a career in England. Then of course you have to ask does the railway encourage second homes, to the detriment of born locals. Do you preserve the past by sacrificing the present? Im far from a nationalist, and I agree with the video, but I'm just giving a locals take. What im trying to say is we should be careful not to turn North West Wales (or the UK) into a large open museum surrounded by jet skis and range rovers.....and yes im a (L) member of both railways.

Would you ever restore the old locomotive turntable? Which had a garage built on it? It could be very useful for turning locos now

Never say never, although only of limited practical use.

@@FfestiniogWelshHighland when the manager was talking about how very few people don't know how to light a fire now did he mean that very few people know to light a fire in the firebox of a steam locomotive in order to get that engine steamed up?, in the past I have had the chance to light a fire in a minature steam traction engine more recently I have lighted a fire in a minature steam locomotive but I think I would probably feel very worried about doing it in a full sized one.

in the part where the Manager was talking about how not many people don't know how to light a fire in the modern world was he talking about lighting a fire in the fire box of a steam locomotive?
