The RadSecure 100 Initiative focuses on enhancing radiological security in our largest cities, where facilities with the highest priority materials are located, including cesium-137, cobalt-60, americium-241, and iridium-192. RadSecure 100 targets 100 major metropolitan areas across the U.S. by providing federally funded security enhancements to facilities that use high-activity radioactive materials and to businesses that use mobile radioactive sources. Additionally, the Office of Radiological Security provides training for the facilities’ security personnel and law enforcement, and where possible, removal and replacement of cesium irradiators with X-ray devices. The University of Wisconsin-Madison made the decision to convert to alternative technologies. ORS also worked with the university to safely remove their disused cesium sources.
