Where do I start with this one? First of all, congratulations to both Utah and South Carolina for getting through this one without any technicals or ejections. The NCAA should be fundamentally ashamed of themselves for the steaming pile of rotting garbage they sent as officials to this game. The entire game of basketball should be ashamed of what was attempted to be pulled off as officiating. If James Naismith would have seen this game he would have said, forget it everyone, this game, as it was presented today, is not what I imagined and let's just call the whole thing off. We can only wonder if the referees manage through life the way they officiated this game. Can they drive, use a spoon, add? Unbelievable that two excellent teams couldn't even have average for officials. These three should be sent home and never let inside a gymnasium again. With that said, South Carolina finds a way to win against a very good Utah team. Ms. Pili (sp?) can PLAY!! They should go deep in March.
Earned Pili the #8 pick in the draft by the Minnesota Lynx. This game right here, put her I. The top 10 in the draft. Welcome to the league and my state of Minnesota.
Very game Utah team that injured player woulda made the difference but that's life , speedy recovery Anslin showing the upperclassman leadership and quality hitting the boards this is how to spread SC have chance just not everyone has the players ,depth etc
When the schedule came out, this one of two games I was concerned about, the LSU game was the other game. I knew Utah would be tricky, what was even better the younger players got some pressure playing minutes. I don’t think USC played a clean game. I watched Pili play against LSU last year, I didn’t know she had game like that, a win is a win.
The fact they had a highlight played 3 times in a row is how it shows ESPN is too busy 😂😂 Edit: why does Rebecca lobo sound so dead….. Ryan Roucco just sounded tired…. Honestly hoped for more energy. Especially when all the girls were hitting threes
Refs were highly sensitive and called every foul or near foul--but they did it to both teams. The pace of the game was very fast, at times. SC's bench saved them.
Coach Staley said in her pregame interview said that the game plan was to run Utah from the three-point line and make them settle for two points instead of three and to outscore them. Utah had best offensive stats of any team prior to this game. Utah is usually very prolific from the three. They make an average of over 13 threes a game and only made 5 on yesterday and shot 25 % from the three. They attempted 20 threes yesterday when they usually attempt over 30. Utah's overall over all field goal percentage was over %52 percent and yesterday it was %45 percent. I think foul trouble for a lot of the post also effected the game. SC made 1 more three and shot better percentage wise then Utah did. SC turnovers were a lot, but other than that I would say they executed the game plan which contributed to the win.
Coaches did not have the team ready to play...no pregame plan to slow down PAC-12 player of year Pili...Pili been playing for 4 years and gets her career high points against SC...ridiculous poor coaching preparation. Raven Johnson lacked focus all game. Cardoso seems too dumb to understand that top teams are not going to allow her to catch the ball and dribble to try to find a shot; she has got to establish position under the hoop, catch and immediately shoot. Utah outcoached Staley...SC merely won because they always have overwhelming talent. Utah was missing 2 or 3 of its better players, yet was neck and neck with SC all game.
@@waldolydecker8118 Doesn't seem like anyone will ever stop Pili. As far as coaching, Utah's coach should have allowed her players to take mid range shots. Its either layups or 3s. Easy to defend that. That wasn't a good strategy when you know where all your shots are going to be taken from. Just defend the 3. There's a reason they didn't make many 3 this game. However, Pili cooked them inside and out. SC's defense was not near par this game. Was as bad as i've seen all year. Too many dumb, unforced turnovers as well. Raven, nor Hall had a particularly good game. As far as Cardoso, it's the same thing as with Boston last year. It's hard to establish anything when 2 and 3 players on you and you're in foul trouble. Despite that, she hit 6 of 9 shots. Wished she could have gotten more off.
U know what I'm a South Carolina fan and I'm glad they won but I feel bad for the Utah players with that dumb strategy from their coach to either take threes or take layups but no mid range shots because of some analytics garbage they had plenty of open looks down the stretch and still decided to chuck up threes with misses if I was a player I would have taken a mid range shot anyway
Lynne Roberts killed Utah’s chances when she lost Kneepkens for the year in a 20 point blowout with less than 2 minutes left. She had no business not making sure she was off the floor
YES!!!!! I was literally SCREAMING this the whole game!!!! She’s a horrible coach for telling her team not to shoot the midrange! That is just a HORRIBLE strategy and she’s psychologically damaging these young women. It is absolutely insane and she needs to be fired before she does anymore damage.
Officiating in all three games was atrocious. USC continues to maul people and still get all the calls. Was almost a good game. Pili is some player and if USC didn't have Hall and or Paopao they would have lost at least 2 games this year.
Kicking your azz LEGITIMATELY is not "mauling," dingbat; its called playing legitimate tight defense. Did you see the undersized Utah center Roberts? keep flopping everytime Cardoza barely touched her...she got 3 gifted charge calls flopping on the floor because she was afraid to play defense and get shot over. If you are going to whine then find something legitimate to whine about.
I thought ASHLYN WATKINS WAS SUPPOSE TO BE LIKE MENTORED LAST SEASON BY ALIYAH BOSTON & ASHLYN SUPPOSE TO BE A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH THIS SEASON , SO FAR IM NOT SEEING IT, C'MON ASHLYN DONT LET US DOWN GYRL ! !
If Utah had Kneepkens, they would've won. South Carolina better be careful. If they don't fix some bad defensive habits, they could get upset by a hungry team. It happens to the best of the best.
Well that wouldn't mean anything tbh, utah lost to baylor with kneepkens. Pili would've had less shot attempts and even if kneepkens would've dropped 18 they still could've lost with the same score outcome.
Watch Cardoso travel at :56. Pretty obvious. Same play that she was praised for her footwork. This was a good game but traveling and carrying the ball are just not called anymore. Utah really needs to practice wide open layups. Make them and this game may be different.
I mean you know pili walked 2-3 times and Also pushed off at 7:08 and wasn't called? not to mention johnson was suppose to be fouled out in the 3rd and watch her flop at 8:11 when she faked like she got hit in the mouth 😂.
No way she should have scored 37. Put an athlete player like Watkins on her full court denying her the ball. In the post, front her. Again denying the ball. She’s not that quick, fast, or athletic. They just let her get the ball and then tried to stop her. The entire SC defense was pitiful. Same thing Clark did to them last year. Dawn needs to hire a coach that knows how to play defense!!!
