Love the content. Love the music. Love the humor. Love the dedication, commitment,. . . . . LOVE LOVE LOVE. I agree with the other viewer who pointed out our understanding and appreciation of the work that goes into just the filming and editing. One of my favorite vlogs. Thank you so much for sharing.
When I think about what it’s going to look like - that incredible doorway! It’s really exciting! Thanks so much for including us on this journey. It is a huge amount of work to produce a video; we appreciate it more than you might know. It’s just such a vicarious satisfaction, watching a wall rebuilt or boarded up windows being cleared. I cannot wait to see it in a year.
Thanks @tesshiva - that's exactly how we feel 😊 What a lovely thing to say! It does take a lot to make the vlogs. Much more than we ever expected but it's lovely to have the encouragement from lovely people like you 😊
Wonderful to see more of the house :) it’s much bigger than I realised. At some point it would be really helpful to see a floor plan of how it is now - just so we can keep up with whereabouts you are in the videos. I wondered how dark the rooms would be due to being in the valley, but it’s glorious and light when you open up the rooms! The Perspex is such a clever idea :) Thanks so much for another video, and bringing us along. I really enjoyed it 😊 Plus, thanks for the extra long video - it must take a lot of time editing, so much appreciated.
It's a pleasure! We are still working with our architect on the plans. Once we have then finalised we will share them with you. You are right, despite being in the valley and having all those trees in front of the house, the rooms are still lovely and bright. That's the benefit of large windows and high ceilings. Glad you enjoyed it. We really appreciate your kind words 🤗
Like others have pointet out, your vlogs are really really fun and interesting, just because of all the work and heart you are putting into it. The house looks amazing now, but I'm thinking of how wonderful it will become as the renovation of it goes on. Must admit I could imagine it with beautiful french doors and windows with the light flooding into the rooms. I really enjoy following your journey!
That is great to hear. Glad you are enjoying our vlogs. We obviously have a picture in our minds of what it'll be like when it's finished so it's interesting to hear that so many of our viewers do too.
What a project just to clear out the plywood. It changes the aspect both inside and outside. The arched openings, for some reason, look even more impressive. Congrats on opening those windows and the door. As well, the air is surely going to be so much cleaner!
Yes you are right. We really can get a feel for how enormous those doorways are now. Its going to be good to clear out the rubbish and make a start on demolishing the partitions
Hello, we are missing you so much, your work, the mill, comments and determination, we have watched since day one, and have enjoyed you’re travel, and the last episode was so moving ,and sad, we hope you are all well and happy in yourselves, we hope to watch again, the mill, but life changes and you health is the first priority, ❤️❤️Sydney Australia
All the arched windows and door are really beautiful. It's so sad to see these old buildings falling apart, I'm glad you are going to save this one. I also think the winter cottage is beautiful. Helen is very brave; I couldn't even watch the part where that big spider was. 😊
Wow, the vision is clearing, what a diamond in the rough ❤❤❤ So mucch of the structural detail is still intact and the dimensions of the place is beautiful, this will make a lovely home 🎉🎉🎉
Yes it has lovely proportions. It echoes the industrial nature of the site and would have tied in with the proportions of the original factory/mill building
Well, it seems that I will have the pleasure to watch your videos for years to come! 😉 That is some project you have there! Best of luck, see you next week
Love all the arched windows. You can put curtains up and leave all the arched areas exposed. And add large planter boxes down the walkway with topiaried trees under planted with flowers. Roses and hydrangeas and simple benches to sit on. Could even put lamp posts on the walkway wall.
No, not long at all. It was fun seeing the inside and your creative “windows”. It definitely has serious issues. I think I would find the biggest bin that can be driven in and just start chucking stuff out the windows and demo the interior and start over. How's the structural integrity of the roof? I love the exterior design. Truly beautiful. You are making good progress. Thank you for sharing. HUGS from Washington State, USA
You can see why we fell in love with it, right? We can see the vision of what it'll be like eventually - we just need to keep the faith. Having a record of the whole process is certainly a privilege. 🏚️
W😮W, have you got quite the journey ahead guys! I can see why you fell in love with the property though, its enchanting. The Mill House is going to be spectacular, high ceilings, huge arched windows and doors, panelling and timber work and the visual impact of the green trees..... Ahhhhhhhhhhhh
Let the light and air do it’s work and dry up the interior - you’ll be amazed at how quickly it will happen. Loving your vlog - what a spectacular site you have.
This house is going to be AMAZING once its finished. There is so much light streaming through those big windows and the rounded top adds so much charm. I can see it in my minds eye. Lots of white walls, wooden and painted country furniture. Black and white tiles on the floor and here and there some pale accents in blue and paris grey…..at least thats how it would look if I would furnish this, hahaha!😅
You are already living here in your mind @nicolethijs5428 🤣🤣 This is exactly what we do too. The light is so great despite us being in a valley. We have a slightly different vision for the decor but I'll take your ideas on board 🤔😂
You should definitely think about taking down some of those walls and make the rooms bigger, if you can. Such a difference seeing in there with so much light. Can't wait to see the process of rebuilding begin!❤
We will be taking down a few walls - on the first floor we will create a master bedroom by amalgamating two of the rooms, downstairs we will take down the partition to make a larger lounge/salon and we will be taking down a wall in the kitchen to make a large kitchen/diner
Having watched the first time inside the building and then with the light it looks so much bigger. It will be a beautiful family home with wonderful views! I presume some of those stud walls will be removed to make rooms bigger! Great work !👍👍👌👌👏👏❤❤🇦🇺🍾🥂
Haven’t commented on one of your videos before but that one by far was my favourite. So good to see more of the building and to see how excited, and rightly so, you both were to open up those windows. Exciting times ahead! 😊
Glad you liked it. We have been planning to do this for a while so it was genuinely exciting to be able to see parts of the building that we've never been able to explore properly.
Good Day Helen, Rich and Chopper, missing you and hearing and seeing news, may all be well, and if not strength and wisdom to see it through for you5. Be great if we catch up with you again, Jenny. 🤗💚
The wall being built from all sorts of stones is not a fault. It's a feature. You will come to appreciate this outlook in many aspects of your project over time. :)
So Exciting! I am very much looking forward to watching you do you all the fabulous work on your beautiful Mill. I have been watching you from the start, and I hope to see you finish. 😀🥰😀 Good fun
What a BIG mill house with beautiful arched windows and high ceiling. It will take a while(years) to renovate but it will be worth it in the end, and plus is you a both young 😂😂 I really look forward to each vlog, thanks for taking the time to show us whats you’ve been doing each week. Cheers sue Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
@judithgrote8794A moment of great joy exactly, between Helen and Rich that we were privileged to witness and be a part of, beautiful indeed. Light brings life to us all. Appreciate All greatly guys you hold great loving Spirits, as we All do, some further along in this potential and wonderfulness.
I so love your channel, definitely one of the best presented I have seen, love your natural style! What a beautiful property you have got I so look forward to seeing you bring it back to life, best wishes 🏡
You should take a screenshot of when he caught the drone and looked towards you - for the photo montage to be done over the years. That could’ve been another one 😅
Omg!! That was so good to watch. I was wishing I was there with a massive broom (never feel like sweeping my own place 🤣) but I could happily be in tidying mode in France. 🤗 it's going to be the most incredible place and the windows will be stunning! P.S. Loved the longer video!!
I'm loving your journey! I absolutely love seeing old forgotten places brought back to life - thank you to you both xxx ! Watching from Ontario, Canada. P.S. Can't wait until the next video is posted.
Wow awesome video to be able to see so much more. An incredible undertaking you have in store for you. So glad to see your channel growing every week. the stone wall looks incredible.
Fascinating to see inside! Those windows are going to cost a fortune never mind the door! But what an amazing beautiful view from every one. Love watching this vlog xx
Well the plan is for a guestroom, bathroom and office up there. No need to worry about the kids though, they are going to get a whole floor in the workshop as there hang out space 🎮📺🏓🎱
Love, love, love the choice of music - happy! Love the novel window design - crazy! Replace the narrow hallways - yes. Widen the kid's bedrooms - yes. Fix the rotten stairway - yes. I can't wait to see next week's video. You sure have a gem to fix up and I love the possibilities!
Such a massive undertaking! Love the watermill! The location is just superb! Brillant idea on using the acrylic sheets. There are quite a few tons of work inside to do. What are the dimensions of the building? A tractor mower for a couple hours in the valley would really expose so much landscape. What are your ideas on all the rubbish? The partitions for each of the current rooms, curious on the demo. Great video work!
Thank you! Yes it is a big job but it'll be worth it. We have a digger to deal with the garden reclamation. We will probably get back to that in the late autumn/winter when the vegetation has died back a bit. Not sure of the dimensions but will look them up for you and post it here. 📏 With the rubbish, we are taking a lot of it to the decheterie (dump/recycling centre) but we will also try to recycle some of it in a creative way. We are quite keen to use some of the old metal work we have found around the place in the garden as support structures for plants for example.
Ok, I'm officially jealous! what an incredible mansion/house (chateau) to make into your home. Its beautiful and so solidly and well built. How you are uncovering the windows and putting in the tempory acylic is brilliant. You obviously know what to do and how to do it. Really the whole property is magical and restoring it will make it even more so. Let me know when your BnB is up! Of course, if you restore the Orangery as a guest cottage.... Yes noticed the beard is gone :) Great music and love the nature scenes. Hey, what is the river called? Relaxing and delightful to watch before sleep, thanks for living your vision!
Wow! This is amazing. Thank you for this lowely content and your dedication in sharing your journey. I wish you all the best for this project and also to all your family who joins you on this endeavour.
❤😊 Wow, that bathroom certainly looks scary and other rooms are very nearly untouched with time you’re still got a lot of work to do but you’re progressing
Great to see natural light in the old building. A couple of rolls of wallpaper and a lick of paint and you can move in! Joking aside, I don't envy you the amount of work you've got to do but I do envy the location. It's absolutely wonderful. Good luck with the renovations
Yep, easy peasy 🫣 It's true that ometimes we wonder what we were thinking... but in a few years we will (hopefully!) look back and laugh at the amount of work we took on, while we sip margaritas on the terrace 😁
Loved every minute of it and can see the vision. The light what a difference. My only comment and please don't take it the wrong way. Can you get a couple of guys and yourself and get your chainsaws out and remove all the trees in front of the mill and the other side of the water race. This will allow everything to dry out and let even more light through reduce the damp factor and we can get an even better perspective of the mill. Has the water in the race reached it lowest point yet so you can get down and remove everything around the turbine so it doesn't get jammed up again only having to repeat everything again next year. It would also help reduce the stress on those collapseing cross tunnels. Cheering you on from Melbourne 😁👩💼
Glad you enjoyed it! We are going to leave the trees in front of the house for now. They give some great shade and that is really needed on hot days. We are trying to learn about the house and how to live in it so we don't want to be too hasty in removing trees right now. We will be considering what trees to put in over the next year and making a planting plan so once we work that out we can take a view on what's there already. The race will be at its lowest in September so we will tackle a bit more of the clearing then 😁
Just caught up on your vlogs. Must admit, I would move into the 'winter house' for a temporary home, although it probably isn't feasible. Too much work required first I presume, although whatever you spent on it wouldn't be wasted. Nice size for a few years. Anyway, you do what you want and what works for you. Best wishes from Australia.
We have considered it but we are going to stay in our rented house for now. Having moved the kids once over from the UK we think they will benefit from living in a "normal" environment rather than a building site. We are going to focus on getting the millhouse done as our family home first and then move on to the other buildings.
When you start to renovate, what will have to be done first, the roof, tying in the walls or replacing the beams? Have you worked out an order of works ? I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!
They are amazing windows. It's great to finally see the light pour in. Yes we are designing the ground floor to be fairly open plan with a large lounge and then on the other side of the stairs a kitchen/diner with a utility room/shower room at the far end
The perfect length video to watch whilst I fill, my admittedly, deep bath. I'm in the bath now. Can you make each video this length so I can have a bath every week? Thank you!
I cannot see you on top of the tower without a hand rail!!! You never know if you step accidentally back or something, you cannot do that, think of the family. I seen someone falling of 2 meters and they are paralysed now. 😢😮
Gotta say that, all things considered, the roof appears to be in a relatively decent condition..... except near the windows & above where the floor has given way..... lots of dampness over many years
Nice job with the wall but why you didn't pull the ivy from the street side. That plant destroy the lovely wall. Also you cleaned up a little around the winter house but you didn't finish taking out the vine and you move to another project. At least pull the ivy from the walls.
It's well sheltered on that side thanks to the valley and the trees. We think it'll be fine till we get the new windows in (we don't have a timeline for that yet).
Sorry if this has already been covered, but, do you have an army of helpers apart from your dad ? I admire your vision, I don't wish to be negative, but to me it looks like one big money pit. Sorry that sounds horrible of me, it's probably an age thing. 😂 I really do wish you loads of luck with your adventure. Cheers Millysue
Mate you should be beating them out not in.....Many of those rooms upstairs are not fit for purpose too small. You are going to have to knock and combine. More work on top of a mountain of work you need help big time.
The rooms are plenty big enough for our purposes as a family of four 😁 We will be combining the two smallest rooms upstair into one for our bedroom and ensuite, taking down the partition in the lounge/salon to turn it back into one room and making the kitchen/diner into one large space.
