Anna, I am a 65 year old woman who was just inspired to dig out my mama's old 50's, 60's and 70's cookbooks and go to town! Thanks for reminding me how much fun it is to pour thru them! I have 2 of a cookbook called "Seems Like I Done it This A-Way" by a retired home economics teacher in Tahlequah, Oklahoma (I'm southern). I'd love to send you my copy. It's autographed by author (I had one and my late momma had one). She wrote notes on most of the recipes about origins of it. Its really entertaining. There's actually a recipe for possum pie 😮 (never had it...never will), but there are a lot of good recipes in it. Thanks again- Chris Payton
What a marvelous collaboration! This cookbook looks really cool! Love all the photos! This pie looks so good! I love lemony citrusy desserts! 😋 I gotta try this! 😍🤗
Loving these 'marvelous' comments! This cookbook really is very cool. It's old but with its very crisp, clear photographs, it feels a little bit modern too? Hard to describe. This pie was incredibly easy and delicious! Highly recommend.
Hey you just gave me an idea to give to you. You should have a mystery retro cookbook of the month club. People sign up and commit to sending other people in the club a mystery Vintage cookbook. you could have hundreds of people doing this!!!
Oh this was so fun!! I loved the idea!! I will definitely check out their channel!! Lemon pie is my favorite! It came out so yummy looking. Loved that it was no bake too❤️❤️
I make something similar (just more modern?) with condensed milk, thawed lemonade concerned, and Kool Whip. You can divide it and tint the filling differently to make colored layers.
Although it isn't a 'no bake" recipe, I just made something similar which was utterly marvelous. I used a package of 6 graham cracker tart shells. The filling is: the zest of 1 lime, 1/3 C fresh lime juice, 12 oz sweetened condensed milk, and 1 egg yolk. Oven at 350°F. Whisk together filling ingredients, pour into tart shells (have them on a rimmed baking sheet), bake for 10 minutes. Cool on a rack for about half a hour, then refrigerate uncovered until cold to prevent condensation. Cover when thoroughly chilled. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream.
This is the fun of sharing food and recipes. Those older books are great. Also, love your pie dish pan. And the bowls. I love stuff like that too in my kitchen. Vintage bowls and dishes. Good stuff. Happy Baking. Cheers, Ivy.
@@cooking_the_books Agreed! It's just so freakin' fun. We used to have this one shoppe down the road a ways, but not too far. Her bowl section was OFF THE CHARTS. What a cute little vintage kitchen area to shop in. Loved it. But sadly, they closed down. I recently broke one of my most loved bowls and now on the hunt to replace it. But that's fun for hubby and I, we dig the hunt. Cheers, Ivy.
@@TheHappyWhisk omggg that sounds wonderful. I had a little shop like that back in Ohio. It was like my little secret Pyrex place! Unfortunately I haven't found anything like that since we moved to CA.
@@cooking_the_books Pryex Place that's a great word for it. Nothing on the West Coast? Ack. I hope you eventually stumble across a good place like that.
@@TheHappyWhisk Not yet. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places. We live in the Bay Area. I'm thinking if I went to in area that wasn't as heavily populated I might have better luck? I have found 2 pretty reliable thrift stores for vintage cookbooks, thank goodness!
It really was utter magic!! The Lemon Cream Pie came together beautifully. I actually cannot get over that photography... you're right, it really does look like something out of an old film... there's a real pre-war vibe that's not quite like any other I've seen! I can't wait to check out Recipe Archeology. Just glad Dottie didn't eat any turf! Thank you Anna! Such a great video!
I immediately thought of you at first sight of those photographs. Magnificent! Marvelous, even! I think you will love Recipe Archaeology. Stephanie and Christine are so much fun to watch. AND they are experts in the art of hot dog casseroles. Dottie has sharpened her turf stealing skills as of late and does it so quickly that I can't catch her on camera. She's a sneaky one!
hahaha doggies are the boss lol. You got me wanting more vintage cookbooks. Neat collaboration! Cool Cookbook and I do like the recipe nice and quick I think too
No name is awesome. I’m from hot Texas & I don’t turn the oven on during the summer 🥵. I would try this in jiffy👍.I love the drawings in the book. My best friend has the Bewitched kitchen in her house with the old stove & toaster at the top. Lol.
I thought this was going to be a Lemon Icebox pie. That’s the most popular pie in my family. It’s interesting that it works without the eggs! I think it would be awesome with oranges.

YESSSSS Marvelous I love to see it! I think this pie is going straight into my regular rotation of desserts. Spring Blossom is such a cheerful pattern. I just love it!
Anna this pie looks amazing! I will definitely make this one, love how easy it is. Love the cookbook, I’m all about vintage and the pictures are really great!
I meant to include an update in the description - By dinnertime, the pie was completely firm and holding its shape. It just needed some more fridge time! Making it a day ahead would probably be best.
