Jamie, I'm one of the ones who breaks out with baking soda- the last batch of deodorant I made I only used half of the recommended baking soda and it's worked really well and no breakouts- I am going to try this recipe of yours too- thanks for sharing!
I just discovered your channel last week and I am hooked! You are so full of great info. I've always wanted to be more self reliant and may be close to moving off grid. Love the bloopers!! You have inspired me to get off my butt and do more to prepare for the unknown! Thank you!!
You're a natural at this..very good at speaking, presenting, teaching, etc. Your voice lends itself well to it and you have good on-camera presence/charisma. I've learned a lot, thanks!
I have been meaning to VR you. It is on the ever expanding list. Leslie made your original recipe and she found it to be awesome. So have I. Beats Body Shop deodorant. Will make sure she sees this one. I think we will stick with baking soda. BTW it works for me about 15 hours. The cost also did not seem as high as you said but we bought large bottles of the oils on sale. So thank you so much for literally improving our lives!
Hallelujah!!!!! I am so excited about this recipe with no baking soda! I have been making my own deodorant for several years, only it’s a liquid I apply with one of those cotton make-up remover pads. I had to cut way back on the baking soda due to the irritation issue. No, it’s not as effective as the commercial brands, but I’m a firm believer the aluminum being used in those is related to breast cancer and it being located in the lymph nodes in the underarm area. This is my opinion only, but aluminum has been linked to so many health issues, it only makes sense! I’m anxious to try this recipe and I already have everything except the shea butter! Thanks for sharing😊👍🏼
mine does have the baking soda but it is only three ingredients, super inexpensive. It's coconut oil, baking soda and corn starch. I run the baking soda in the blender to powder it, because many people that react to it are reacting to it's abrasiveness. I use this without essential oils and never have a problem with odor . I don't worry about perspiring because it's our bodies natural function.
Great recipe.. I love the clay which I use with coconut oil to draw out impurities but moisturize my face and neck.... I to make a deodorant from the benzoate clay but I use the wax from honey along with honey in it and coconut oil along with tea tree a citrus form of oil and the ingredients you spoke of except I don't use the shea butter since it is a little more expensive...but I grid my sage or bay leaf and sometimes comfrey especially for my husband since he gets heat rashes and it really helps him to not get sores! Thanks for this recipe, I'll be saving it for sure! 😉👍👍👍
Just FYI clary sage eo can induce labor in a pregnant lady. Usually more likely in a diffuser itself, but just wanted to put that out there in case a pregnant lady is watching/reading. Former labor doula thing. Once I have my next little in a few weeks, I'd be excited to try this. Especially as a homeschooling lesson with my tween daughter. Thanks for sharing the recipe! Aside from my birth kit I've been racking my brain on how to use up my clary sage oil afterwards. Think I may have found my answer.
I didn't know that sage has sweat related properties so I will have to start implementing sage into my recipes because no matter what I try from my doctor these hot flashes are literally keeping me indoors. I will try this deodorant as well it just sounds healthy.
Thank you, I will try this. I am one of those people that had the sensitivity to the baking soda. It was really weird, kind of looked like a sunburn that had darkened and then it all peeled. Someone told me not to use it everyday but only every 3rd. day. Hmmm. It worked really well but this sounds like it might be the answer. Fortunately I have most of these items.
Totally miss red the thumbnail of this video the first time i red it. Red it as hairball not herbal. Lol. Herbal sounds much better. Love the video. Thanks for posting. :)
Interesting Jaime. I'm glad you demonstrated it goes on clear. I stopped using typical deodorant years ago after having problems with cysts occurring under my arms. And finding out how bad that stuff is for you.
Never thought of making my own but now that I've found a natural deodorant I really like and actually works, I'll likely stick to that for now. Thanks for the recipe!
This is great! I used to work for a company that makes deo so I know what goes into them... I've been meaning to make our own, and so I'll definitely try this!
In the winter I use coconut oil and arrowroot powder with tea tree oil along with a crystal stick. But, the summer is an entirely different story. I am still not off the commercial brand if I have to go "out". I'm too afraid to stink. One other thing I might mention about the effectiveness of tea tree oil. Last year I forgot and left the last load of laundry in the washer....all night...all day the next day and most of the next day IN THE SUMMER. Well, it stank to high heaven. I was afraid I was going to have to throw the clothes away. Borax didn't work. So, I put about 10 drops of tea tree oil in the washer with the clothes. It got ALL the smell out. It was my last hope and it worked. I had read this online somewhere and never tried it because I had never needed to. What ever those 10 drops cost...it was worth it!!
I use vinegar as a fabric softener. This smell was so bad I didn't think anything but bleach would have killed it. But, I rarely ever use that and not on clothes. A good tea tree oil is amazing. I started adding it with vinegar and water on my floors. We have an elderly dog. It has made such a difference.
Bridge, Yes you are correct. But, it's not as bad as the commercial brands. I only use it when I have to. It's still better than the full on commercial leaders. The aluminum in the crystal stick does not use the type of aluminum that clogs the pores. There are different types. Any aluminum is bad. But, at least when I do use it's the lesser evil.
Thank you for sharing. I’ve been looking for an all natural deodorant recipe I could make for myself that does not include baking soda. Was using one from a great friend that I loved the results and smell but found that the baking soda was turning my underarms black!
This is a great one. I make a similar recipe with coconut oil. I think I will try your version with beeswax b/c sometimes the coconut version melted in the container during summertime. 🙃
the coconut version does melt at 76 degrees But coconut oil is antibacterial. Try adding the beeswax to your existing recipe, it will be harder but still have the CC oil properties that make it work so well.
I have two other recipes for deodorant, but none like this one, so neat!!! I like having options!! LEARNED something new from you today: sage has antipersperant properties!!! awesome!!!!! I love my homemade deodorant, but had a hard time getting used to the fact that it doesnt keep my from sweating like a PIG!!!! just not smelling like one! LOL....will def. give this a try, thanks jamie!!! =)
Sounds interesting. I have 2 issues: I am violently allergic to tea tree oil, and I work in a scent-free workplace. Needless to say, I'm still looking for something that would be scent-free yet effective. Baking soda is not an issue for me.
@@allyourchildren1550 Yes, allergies to scents are very common. The organization I work for has adopted this policy nationally, and it has been written into Operational Health and Safety regulations. It is very common to see signs on the front doors of companies and clinics to inform clients and visitors that they are not to use scented products before they visit. Needless to say, this includes much more than just perfume, after-shave and scented deodorant.
I made the baking soda one and I am loving it! Will be making some to put in my daughters Christmas stockings this year. Am I weird to put deodorant in their stockings? Oh well if they aren't used to me by now.......right? lol
Do you have a recipe for herbal soap? I once had a couple of Bars from CA that I know had Rosemary in them along with other items that was so good that the smell was pleasant even when sweaty.
I tried the Native brand. Bought a stick for me and one for my husband. The deodorant smells good at first, but within an hour my own smell overpowers it. It's basically useless. I've been watching, and loving, Jamie's videos and tried the banking soda recipe. It worked so well, but I got a rash from the baking soda, so I'm about to try this recipe out.
I guess it needs the tea tree oil? I am so allergic to that. I bought some and used it in several ways and ended up in urgent care. I learned the hard way even one or two drops of tea tree oil is not liking me..... But I would like this with all the other oils.
Belva Dalidowich hi Belva, after some research, I realized that the reason we have body odor under our arms is due to bacteria. So I thought to myself, what kills bacteria that I can apply to mt skin without an allergic or harsh reaction. "ALCOHOL" So for the past month, I take my shower taking special care to clean my arm puts well without irritating my skin. Then I dry the arm out. I take a cotton ball saturated in alcohol and gently run it under my arm making sure to stroke it several times. I then let it dry. It lasts almost the entire day when it is hot. On cool days, it lasts until my next morning shower.
Patty K I rub a bit of lemon under my arms after, helps keep the skin a bit acidic (bacteria don't like that). Worked full day during summer for me atleast.
Patty K ACV with mother works for me. I apply it after showering and/or in the morning. I do use baking soda deodorant when I go into town and the ACV helps counteract the affects a bit. I also use magnesium oil in the rotation. If you try the magnesium use it on an arm or somewhere you won't mind itching because it will itch if you are deficit. After a week or two you should stop itching.
Just wondering since I have a very large herb garden would it be possible to infuse my herbs into the almond oil before using it? Or do you recommend using the essential oil’s only?
I happen to have all of these ingredients! I am eager to try this and get away from aluminum as much as possible, however I am curious about oil and/or clay stains on my clothes. Is this somehow not an issue??
Hi - This is great and I am going to give it a try. Much healthier than what is sold in the stores. Also, when you have time, can you please reply with the link for the video on how to make the deodorant with baking soda? I cannot seem to find it. Apparently I'm not good at navigating RU-vid channels that I'm subscribed to. Thanks.
The baking soda one works longer but the stick is more convenient and is better if younger razor burn. Time will tell though as I use the stick more, but so far I like the stick better
I've never heard of anyone having a TOPICAL sensitivity to baking soda alone. If too gritty/abrasive to delicate skin, it can be made into a powder by putting into a blender or food processor and it will have the same texture as fine baby powder; no abrasiveness. I coud never use that herbal deodorant recipe because I have extreme sensitivties to all chemicals, especially most "natural/organic/pure essential oils": yes, even "organic ones". Two of the worst reactions I've had were to eucalyptus, and to tea tree oil -- separate exposures, no more than 1 drop of each of them, months apart.
I'm one of those people, sadly. From topical application I got a rash that led to a burn - redness, heat, peeling and lots of pain. No fun. A baking soda free version of the same product caused me no issues. Been using Primal Pit paste (baking soda free version) for years.. but hoping to try this soon. :)
I have made my own deodorant using the bentonite clay but found that with that ingredient in the mixture it stained my clothes. Do you have any issues with staining your tops?
I can’t find a link to the deodorant you made WITH baking soda. It’s not listed in your quick links under this video and can’t find it on your channel listings. I’m sure I’m just missing it can you tell me where to find it? Thanks
