This video shows you how to cable the Pod Go in 4CM with an amp, and how to set up a preset that switches back and forth between two modes of operation: 1) using 4CM with the preamp of your tube amp 2) using a Pod Go preamp block and just your tube amp's power amp section.

Thanks for this Patrick. I knew the 4CM but the way to use the preamp of the pod go was new to me. Very interesting and this opens up many ways to use the pod go in a very creative way.

Thank you, the only video I could find to show "EVERY CONNECTION" in detail. Also nice to see your diagram with the full effects loop showing the various effects pedals, pre-amp and power amps in their respective places within the loop. Makes complete sense now and also allows me better understanding for future connections.

Very informative video, and learned a bunch with switching. There are CERTAIN times you can use both. I have a Laney Ironheart that sometimes had more twang to it. If the cab keeps turning on, I recommend putting it on IR mode, and putting the dB in line. This prevents colorization!
@patgiff101055
@patgiff101055 Год назад
The cab only was on again because the default when you select an amp block is to add the matching cab every time. But this can be switched off in Global Settings too. The Pod Go is an amazing little gadget with so many options, I really think of it as a mini Helix.

Hey Patrick, thanks for the vid, helped a lot! 1 question...when the FX loop on the pod go is off and the preamp is on...where is the signal feeding into? Into the front of the amp or in te FX return?
@patgiff101055
@patgiff101055 7 месяцев назад
Hi Matti, you can pause the video then you can study the diagram which shows you the signal path in each case. When the FX Loop is turned off, no signal goes to the front input of the amp. It goes through the preamp block and out the L Output into the FX Return of the amp. That combines the preamp block inside the PG with the power amp section of your amp. When the FX Loop is on, the FX Send of the PG feeds the front input of your amp and this passes the signal through the amp’s preamp section. And that is why you do one or the other but not both at the same time- otherwise you have one preamp feeding into another preamp which is not what we want. Hope that helps! Pat

Hi Patrick, thanks for the informative video. I hope your community can help me out! I am using my Pod Go along with a real Marshall Silver Jubilee 2525H and matching Cab 2536A 212, I want the best quality over the PA as well in addition to my Marshall including the Cab. I use the 4 cable method, the blocks Amp/Preamp and Cab/IR on the Pod Go are deactivated, my signal chain is as follows: Guitar In Pod Go - Pod Go Effects (Compressor, Distortion) - FX Send Pod Go - Front Input Marshall - FX Send Marshall - FX Return Pod Go - Pod Go Effects (Chorus, Delay, Reverb) - Amp Out Pod Go (Main Out Setting) - FX Return Marshall. The normal Main Out (Mono) is coupled to the PA. Is this procedure recommended? Are there any problems with this setting? Is there also the possibility to change my Marshall Amp Channel via EXP2, currently I use a Marshall Single Button Amp Footswitch which is directly connected to my Marshall? I look forward to a feedback, thank you!

@patgiff101055 Год назад
Hi Rodrigo. Now you got me thinking :-) For sure you need to have a CAB turned on when you go into the PA or else where will the cab sound come from? You already have the sound of your Marshall preamp in your signal chain. So my advice is to try the following: 1) turn Cab ON and still leave the amp block off 2) Put the amp AND cab at the end of the signal chain because AMP OUT is a tap directly before the amp block, and you want that to be at the end so yo get all your Chorus Reverb etc into the signal (or else it will be cut out!). Try it and please let me know how it works. PS I assume you do not want to take a DI out from your Marshall itself? This would surely make things simpler 🙂

Hi Patrick, thanks for the tip, now that I have enabled the CAB virtually in my Pod Go it now works, also as you recommended I put CAB and Amp at the end of the signal chain. Additionally I bought the same IR to my real CAB. My real amp is at Amp Out which was set to Pre Cab/IR. Via Main Out (Mono) I go to the PA, also all effects are active, thanks for the quick and helpful feedback! Unfortunately, when I use DI Out on the real amp, my EQ on the amp is disabled. I always had a decibel boost for solos at the end of the signal chain for Main Out, via a footswitch. Can I somehow use this in front of my real amp, so that it also gets louder?
@patgiff101055
@patgiff101055 Год назад
@@rodrigoschneider3997 Hi Rodrigo, look at the signal chain...anything you put before the Amp/Cab blocks will be sent via Amp Out- and everything that is not turned off will go out via Main Out. So if you put the boost in front of the amp/cab in the Pod Go it will feed into Amp Out AND it will go to Main Out. I would probably put it directly after the FX Loop block just to make it simple, but it's up to you. If you put it *before* the FX Loop it will drive your amp harder- so it won't be a clean boost any more. You decide which you want to have - "clean boost" (after the FX Loop on PG) or "OD boost" (before the FX Loop). Good luck!

Hi patrick, thanks for the informative video, i just wonder why if i put delay and reverb after fx loops and turn on the dirty(Lead) mode on tube amp the delay and reverb doesn’t give any sound, but if i put delay and reverb before fx loops its sound terrible. This only happen when i run dirty(Lead) mode on my amp. Its work fine when in clean mode by the way. I look forward to a feedback. Thank You in advance.

Hi what amp are you using? Maybe I can look up the manual and give you a better answer. For sure you should not put your Delay and Reverb before the FX Loop - unless you are trying to achieve something special. Remember you must turn off Amp and Cab blocks when you are running in 4CM into your tube amp. AND the FX Loop block has to be turned on. If you don't turn on the FX Loop you only hear the power amp section of your tube amp.

@@patgiff101055 Hi patrick, currently i using ENGL Fireball 100 for my tube amp head. And of course i turn off amp and cab section on the pod go, and turn on the FX loops. Just wondering why delay and reverb doesn’t sounds, just tube amp sound only. Or others setup on global settings?

Hello and I have a question, I have a Marshall DSL 40 CR combo and I bought a five-button footswitch for it. I would like to use the clear and distorted Marshall sound and use the sounds from the Pod Go via the FX Loop switch. Should I connect the PG via 4CM? And how should I set the PG outputs. Thank you
@patgiff101055
@patgiff101055 Год назад
If you ever want to use amp models from the Pod Go, you should be in 4CM. If you want to put overdrive, compressor, noise gate from Pod Go in front of your amp and delay, reverb, chorus after the preamp of your amp then you should use 4CM. If you only want to use the PG for delay, reverb etc then you can just put it into the fx loop of your amp.

@@patgiff101055 So far I've played from PG through FRFR and used soundbanks for each song separately. The sound of the Marshall DSL tube amp is nicer to me and more legible in the band. I will probably use the PG in the FX Loop for live performance and in the rehearsal - I just don't know if it will be possible to use the PG wireless when connected to the loop. At home, I will use the PD classic MAIN OUT/MONO output for training. Thanks for the reply, I will try and learn.
@patgiff101055
@patgiff101055 Год назад
@@janhejtmanek831 no issue with the wireless just get a good one. The benefit of having the PG in 4CM is that you can try out different types of amps and not be limited to what your DSL 40 does. EG if you want an AC30 sound…

What if you only want to use the Pod. Would it be a good way to just take the out of the Pod into the return of the amp?
@patgiff101055
@patgiff101055 9 месяцев назад
yes that would work fine. You have to test between using a PG amp block vs a PG preamp block, since the amp block includes power amp modelling already. It's a matter of taste. But be sure to turn the cab block off if you are running your real amp into a real cab. Otherwise you have a PG cab feeding a real cab. Note: Personally I like 4CM because it gives you the chance to selectively use your own amp's preamp section - which you already paid for :-)

If I wanted to add my own pedals where would I insert them? Right in front of the connection to the front of my tube amp or before the guitar in to the pod go?

@patgiff101055 6 месяцев назад
@@gary1488 personally … I would put the OCD and Big Muff between the guitar and the PG input - but it’s a matter of taste. Experiment and see what you like better. The phaser should be connected to the L Output of the PG so it is *after the preamp* and last in the signal chain in 4CM - and hits your amp just before the power amp, after any delay and reverb… Same for the looper. I would do it differently if you had a 2nd FX Loop on the PG but you don’t. There is no right and wrong by the way. People can and do put stuff wherever they want depending on what they are trying to achieve. Good luck 👍

@@patgiff101055 thank you very much. Every time I just have headphones to the pod it sounds pretty good either way my two guitars. When I introduce the 4cm things just sound off. So lots of times I just go with my pedals into my Marshall but then lose the other effects capabilities. I’m ready to nail this setup so it sounds great and I don’t have to tinker again.

So i am thinking of using some York audio IRs. Seems like these are pointless with 4cm. What are your thoughts?

But I guess that raises another question……What if the physical amp is solid state? I am certainly not posing the question as a prod or a jab, just a logical question to any non-tube amps.
@patgiff101055
@patgiff101055 5 месяцев назад
If the amp is solid state you should compare amp vs preamp blocks in the Pod Go and see which one you like better.
