There was something of a mental block around the pitch and I honestly don't know what he was thinking. Lack of concentration? This team has not been playing well. Partey seemed to need five touches on the ball before seeing the obvious pass. Partey was annoying Sir.
@@ashaekuteku9591 Partey was Arsenal's man of the match imo. Defensively solid in tight spaces and picked some wicked passes. As a team we failed in both attack and defense.
Try to put yourself in his place. There is no time to think, it is pure instinct. His selfimagery is made up by high expectations within in the sqaud and the public opinion. Whom continually achnowledges him in, to be so important, that Arsenal cannot be succesfull without him. This means, in his mind, NOBODY is going to pass through him, no matter what. From his position he did not and should not expect a ball to be passed down there from a teammate and it did. What to do in this situation, no time to think. I'll stop him. We who critizise had all the time in the world to play in hindsight from this situation where time was the only luxury he did not have. Trossards instinct, in this situation, should be to pass a long one down to Raya instead. Conclusion is it would have been better if he let him go, but the wrongdoing is made by Trossard.
Martinelli's failure to capitalize on that opportunity, along with Saliba and Kiwor's mistakes, was frustrating, but the most foolish of all was Trossard's giving away a gift to Bournemouth, which led to Saliba's red card.
Thank you!! Trossards decision was by far the worst and all I see is people criticizing Saliba (who should be smarter, but he was put in a terrible situation)
The starting line up was too defensive. and after we went down to 10, he used trossard and havertz as only outlet, when we needed more of a martinelli sterling or Jesus for Pace. For me its more on arteta then the players today. Did we really need kiwior ? why not move Rice at the back
Arteta keeps on rambling about having versatile players. But when it comes to making use of their versatility he doesn't trust them to do a job. He hasn't played Ben white at centre back since he's moved to the RB position. And to make it worse he plays Kiwior at right centre back which makes him look soo bad.
When the season is over we will look at Brighton, City and B’mouth red cards and say THOSE games was were Arsenal lost the league. The margins to beat Man City are so small you can’t drop 7 points from stupid player mistakes. Arsenal are easily the most frustrating top 4 club since 2004 it’s pure pain supporting these lot
This loss is on Arteta. We were sh*t from the start, it's not just the red card why we lost. There was zero creativity, zero initiative, it almost feels like Mikel expects us to win all our games from set pieces. What tf was that midfield? Nwaneri had to start.
For as brilliant as he is in so many respects, I really don't feel like Mikel understands mentality at all. Bringing on Nwanieri so late far more harmful then starting him or not bringing him on at all. Truly self-inflicted in almost every respect this game.
So, it was his misunderstanding that his most creative player would play the opposition player straight through on goal from a non event? Not only that, he probably instructed the nearest player to make a red card offence to make up for the stupidity of the player that make that situation. Let's be real here, the line up looked very decent. Arsenal as a whole played like shit.
Don't think it's that deep really. We've built a team completely around Saka & Ødegaard and (understandably) we look uncrecognisable when they're both out. Add to that a red card for our best defender with 60 minutes left to play with 3 defensive-minded midfielders on the pitch and a manager so conservative he should be running for leader of the Tories. It's no surprise we created nothing.
There, that's the problem. "Not that deep". Yes, because clearly, when fans can see the issue, why not the manager. Lineup and subs are on the manager. He MADE the decision to play 2 DM's and an 8. Where's the creativity ? Why play nwaneri with 10 min to go? What on earth was kiwior doing on the pitch ?
@@14_Phoenix all 3 are DM's in my book. There was no playmaker. So Rice is a 6 and Merino is a 8, what is Partey? Crazy set up just to get Merino into the team. If you noticed carefully, he put Merino on the right side of midfield and Rice on the left. It was just an effort to get Merino in the team. He should have played the academy product.
You knew the moment he missed Bournmouth were going to go up the other end and score, seen it so many times, you miss a big chance at 0-0 in a tight game and it comes back to bite you,
They need to be more concentrated if they want to win the league. 3 red cards in 8 games is unacceptable, I don't want to hear excuses about refs. Decision making has been poor in too many situations so far.
@@NoooTheWall32 that's u, the rest of us don't worship at the feet of odegaard. Considering how long we've been without him, it seemed u had this comment pre-written just waiting use it(when we lose).
We’ve had some decent results this season all things considered. But our performances, they’ve ranged from “meh” to “poor”. That will always catch up with you. I realize we’ve been missing Ødegaard for most of the season, but the team always looks so unbalanced and we rarely attack with conviction. A lot needs to change, and quick, or we’re all gonna be in for quite a rude awaking come April/May.
Arteta picked the wrong team, he takes too long to put trust in players..Nwaneri continues to show promise but Arteta's history of hesitance to alter his strategy holds us back from evolving when we need to...The team moral today also wasn't good, there was no fighting spirit or desire to work. Rice tried a few time but ultimately didn't have the support he need. We have been very poor in possession recently, i wonder how Arteta will overcome this in the next game
Spot on about Nwaneri James, he should have some more confidence in the lad and play him. Too many relationships on the pitch were broken up and they didnt seem at it today
Yeah I agree. Could even have played Nwaneri on the right wing with Trossard 10 & Sterling on the left IF he was worried about physicality and discipline in central midfield
Nwaneri is only 17. He probably wants to ease him in. Not rely too much on him as we let him grow stronger. We too often want to put youngsters right in there too early and too often they get injured with long term injuries. If we did not have a sending off. And the players were up for it. We could have got a positive result easily.
besides the red card, if we being honest we have been performing poor, Even though we won against Leicester and Southampton we were not our best. the signs have been there
Hope you communicate this to your colleague, Turkish. Man was saying we lost this game because we had a poor transfer window. Very simply, we didn't score because our midfield was too defensive, despite alternatives. And we conceded because we gave away a silly red card. That's a formula for losing a game you should win.
Its just more inconsistencies that are frustrating for me, VAR hasnt intervened in similar situations already this year. But anyway, we know how it works
@@johnporcella2375 a Tottenham goalkeeper handling the ball twice outside the box as the ball was falling to the opposing players feet. That wasn't deemed a goal scoring opportunity
Normally I agree with most of what you say James, but not on the point that the players are more to blame than the manager. He played four (natural) CBs and three defensive-minded midfielders. Then he played two wingers who have minimal transition threat. What was he expecting to happen? Duel winning is important, for sure, but at the cost of our creativity and fluency in the middle? We didn't offer anything in an attacking sense and our performance was lukewarm even when it was 11 v 11. As you mentioned, we got rid of Smith-Rowe and Vieira, and have done nothing to replace them. It's not great squad building. The players looked uncomfortable and Trossard panicked when he was under pressure (which led to that hospital ball to Saliba). The players deserve criticism, but the main issue here is Arteta's unbalanced line-ups are causing us more issues than people want to admit.
We need to see Kiwior go out the door in January. He's just not good enough, and that's unfortunate. He's a mid to lower-table back at best. Why did Nwaneri not start too? Why is Arteta not set us up to succeed?
Cowardice and stubbornness to be honest. I think he's one of the best managers in the prem, but the ultra conservative tactics and absolute fear of playing young players are why he's also still hugely flawed.
@@astrothelad Kiwior was substituted out after he was substituted in. That's far from conservative. Hindisght is great, but if Arteta played young players and still lost, what would have been the narrative then?
@Qlicky it's not just about playing young players; it's about working with the cards you've been dealt. If Odegaard is out and you're going to play Trossard on the left, the only creative outlet left in midfield is Nwaneri. In that case, you *have* to play him, especially against Bournemouth. 2 DMs and a defensive-minded 8 to start against a team of Bournemouth's quality when you are (or were) the bookies' favourite to win the league is appalling. If Nwaneri started, the narrative then would have been that Mikel did his job correctly, but the players couldn't deliver. The way things played out, both parties are at fault.
You have never frustrated me more in a vid than this one James. 1) it most certainly was Trossards mistake, why is he putting us under pressure with that stupid pass? 2) Martinelli should score, plain and simple. Don’t let your bias of him cloud what you are saying. If this was Kai everyone would be loosing their mind. 3) we can indeed feel aggrieved by the red. Rival fans won’t “respect” you more just cause you are being that guy…. 4) Raya was sooooo poor but again it’s poor to bring up last season the moment he has 1 stinker. Now I most certainly agree with you that down to 10 men we are the poorest club when it comes to going forward, completely and utterly useless
Spot on. All the flaws in my view were due to lack of rotation. Arteta needs to trust Nwaneri and Myles-Skelly more. He can’t play the same 11 every league game. If you can’t rotate against Bournemouth you’ll never rotate.
An incredibly fair assessment of the game mate. I agree 100% on Saliba, if he doesn't do that, he still has an opportunity to chase back and also Evanilson has to get past Raya. I think it was very even prior to that happening, but afterwards we grew and grew in confidence. Christie's goal was very well worked and the penalty could have been prevented as you say. You really did miss Saka today. Semenyo and Ouattara were dangerous down the wings and created so much. I hope you guys can brush this defeat off and win the title. As you know have so much respect for you guys. Delighted about the win though, we don't expect to beat Arsenal and see these as bonus games so have to savour this result.
They are not taking things seriously. A team that wants to win a title doesn't get three red cards in eight games. We arev not even scoring in the first 20 minutes of the game for a while, and the manager is not doing anything about it. For me it is over until they feel the responsibility and conviction to win it.
Of course it was a red. Of course it was a pen. But that was not the problem. The problem was how we played. Before the red and after the red. Imo Arteta got too many things wrong today. How can we not just play with 3 defenders against f****** Bournemouth? Why do we need to roll over like babies? Are we title contenders? Why on earth is Nwaneri not coming in earlier? He changes the energy in the game. Every time.
The Goonerver is currently the best Arsenal fan channel because James analyzes things rather than making inflammatory comments that divide the club and make our fanbase look bad. Big up James.
The only person not blaming trossard. Saliba was stupid for doing that. I don't blame trossard at all. I really thought this performance was gone from Arsenal. You will never see City play like that even with 10 men. The title is done and I'm not over exaggerating
Even if it was the players' fault, Arteta's refusal to call them out publicly makes him culpable. He refused to call out Saliba, made excuses for Martinelli's inexcusable miss and took off our best performing attacker (Sterling) instead of Trossard (who had a howler of a first half). And he was far too defensive in tactics - parking the bus against Bournemouth instead of showing the courage to go for a win.
@@tusharimdad9595 I see your point. Making excuses communicates the wrong thing to us fans, that he's not taking indiscipline seriously. He could probably just say something like "we'll discuss that as a team." Nothing more.
City fan here, 101% Saliba's fault. There are always mistakes in passing, most of the goals we concede are of the same. You'd rather concede 1 than lose 1 man
I don't ever want to see a Rice, Partey, Merino starting midfield ever again. Even if Arteta choses not to start Nwaneri, he could have played two up front with Jesus and Havertz together.
@@Qlickyah, right. We lose because everyone makes the correct decisions, right? And no one can ever contest those correct decisions that definitely don't lead to us - a top 2 team - losing 2-0 to a bottom-half side in Bournemouth. This whole 'not qualified enough' strawman is extremely played out.
Arrogant and overconfident. Even with 11 on the pitch we were poor. The only threat was actually Sterling taking on the fullback. Trossard was appalling (I support him a lot) Once with 10 Trossard should have gone. I felt Sterling would have gone on and created something. Nwaneri will end up like Smith Rowe. Even when deserving a chance he's not getting one. This is on Arteta. Even with ten we were unwilling to get forward. City would not have lost this with 10 men. Red? Nothing to discuss it's a red all day long. Saliba's fault as much as Trossard. There's no title with this mentallity.
On your point at 11:33 James, on how no teams have won the league without having a bad day, it just makes the Invincibles season that much more impressive, because yes while we had bad games that season, we ALWAYS managed to get a point at minimum to go a whole season with 0 losses. Makes me appreciate that season a lot more tbh.
our attack is very concerning without saka and odegaard. looking at the past 3 premier league games..we've struggled against leicester, southampton, and now bournemouth. Hugely concerning!!! Also, what does nwaneri have to do to get more minutes?!
@@danogunnerwhat's the point of having him. No balls small club. God how do you wake up knowing you'll never touch title anytime soon. CL is never happening 😭
@@danogunner Yes. That's the point of having a squad. We didn't sign a backup for odegaard, so it automatically implies that nwaneri will get solid minutes. Our midfield has 0 creativity.
Just to give some more context, Bournemouth only won 3 out of 8 this season. On starting Lineup not much you can do given injuries, including martinelli, but on in game management is a different issue. There were better games to give nwaneri a start but arteta decided against so to expect him to do that here is unreasonable. Merino started bad but grew into the game, may take a few games to settle
It's these international breaks James, it breaks up our rhythm and alot of these players looked fatigued, also the starting 11 told the opposition that we don't any creativity in the middle.
Arteta got it wrong today. He showed too much respect to Bournemouth. Nwaneri should have played today along side Partey and Rice, or we could have Used Jesus on the right, Sterling on the left and Trossard in the 10. We had not ball carriers. We played much better from 80th Mins. Well hope we can bounce back ASAP. Saliba; school boy call - go a goal down but stay 11 v 11
Totally agree! Why 3 DMs? When the red card was dished out, why does it have to be a regressive substitution? No creativity, lacklustre, bad passings... B deserved to win.
We know that the officiating is strict against us , we should not be making this rash descisions , first rice , then trossard, now saliba shows a lack of discipline and a lapse in the concentration , we should not be doing this in a title race , better done early and addressed soonest is the only good take from this , we were very poor lacked concentration
James we were poor. I thought it was a red card too. James we needed creativity in that match and there wasn't one. This is Arteta mistake for benching Nwaneri our only close to creative midfielder. Why was Martinelli in the bench after the red card.
I don't understand why we always start so damn slow. Only when we concede a goal we start pressing and playing like we used to before :/ We are focusing WAY to much on defending in my opinion (vs ''trash'' teams). We are not pressing them and we let opponents play. It doesn't matter if its Man City or Bournemouth everyone gets ball control when they play against us. I just don't get it why we did a complete 180 from last year.
Hopefully this game is our only real stinker of the season. Good to get it out of the way early. We can cope not having one of our best players, but missing both Ødegaard AND Saka is horrendous for our creativity. That team could have still won the game for sure, but the whole performance, even before Saliba was sent off felt so sterile and uninspired.
A bit more desire and determination right from the first minute would have helped too. The truth is that this group is not at the level needed to win the top trophies. Too many errors and poor decisions leading to red cards will cost us. No way this squad will win the UCL or PL - we are in a fight for a top 4 finish. We haven't played really well in any PL game so far this season and today's result was coming. Congratulations to Bournemouth - a fully deserved victory. I hope this turns out to be our worst performance of the season. It needs to be!
We are slowly becoming "Nearly FC". We just do not seem to capitalize on the opportunities we get. It is the 8th gameweek and we have already dropped points to Brighton and Bournemouth and have played 3 games with 10 men. I am so livid mannn!!!
@@holdtightadele8017 1 pt against city, especially in the manner it happened is a good result. Other 2 are not acceptable, considering the fact that we are up against both city and liverpool.
You must be very young mate. There are still 30 more games to play. Arsenal have injuries. You can't win every game. Which is funny. Not long ago it would have been an amazing start to the season.. These days it's forks out and taking names. 😁 Arteta is doing something right.
@@Qlicky I’ve been the following the club since 17 years mate, and the number of league titles we have in that time is 0! So excuse me for throwing forks out

I’m bored every Arsenal game now. We are awful to watch. Played 3 DMs against Southampton and played 3 DMs against Bournemouth. Mikel Pulis is in season 6 now, no more phases, or process, it’s time to deliver. This is his team, players, tactics, etc so there’s is no excuse
@@philmusson1265 if it wasn’t for a set piece we could have been playing the NLD until now and we wouldn’t of scored. We’ve been bang average at best this season. 1 good half against City and 1 good half against PSG is about it. Poor against Wolves, Brighton, Atalanta, Southampton, Leicester, and we rode our luck against Spuds and Villa
Perspective. Our players have been playing continuously across 3 seasons; League, Cups and Internationals. Bournemouth have had no (or very few) players away on international with 2 weeks to prepare for this game. I can’t remember the last time we lost away, and for that I’m really proud of The Arsenal, my local team. ❤️🤍
One of Mikel’s biggest issues has always been his thoughts towards making substitutions and mentality … why did we start with three holding midfielders? He doesn’t trust in the squad unless he absolutely has to.
Thank you James, we have to be honest, I know sometimes we are hard done by. But this game was really a drag and the lack of sharpness was seen the red card only highlighted it. The only issue I have with your analysis is merino definitely starts ahead of nwaneri merino plays 8/10 he's not a deep lying midfielder. Lets be fair nwaneri doesn't change that game especially with the game states with the red card
We were diabolical plain and simple. Our offense has been terroble since the season began getting we need to improve our striking cabilities as well as players who can create chances. Were too one sided on defense right now. At the moment cant see us challenging City or Liverpool
Can't lie, my feeling when that moment happened was let him go through and see what happens. Raya is in good form and furthermore it's so early in the game, we can bag 2-3 against them. Dust ourselves on and move. No more reds though. Especially ones that feel self-inflicted
Arteta mistakes will certainly cost us the title again! Why play three defensive players? When you can play Jesus and Nwaneri on the left and right then Trossard in the middle.
Well said, I agree with you overall. I would add to the criticism in that it seems to me like we over compensate when we go down to 10 men by Abandoning the concept that sometimes attack can be the best form of defence, also our discipline is clearly in the bin. 3 Red Cards in 8 games is totally unacceptable. Not playing Nwanieri was a strange decision by the Manager. No means is the title over yet but it was a very bad day at the office. Re-instating discipline has to be our first priority.
70% of the blame is on Arteta. He got the starting lineup totally wrong. 3 defensive midfielders meant our defense and attack was going to be disjointed. If you plan to play on the counter then it'd make sense but Bournemouth aren't a possession heavy side to begin with. Our wingers never got into the game and Havertz had to leave his position to link up the play. So, when we got any chances there just weren't enough players available to make an attacking play.
We were bad. Saliba is having a terrible week in general. Low on confidence given the France game. Arteta should have started Jesus on the right and Sterling on the left with Trossard playing at no. 10 instead of Merino.
We were very poor today, no complaints really.. Wasting time, not going in for 50 50s, letting the ball slide in front, players walking nonchalantly like it's no one's business..... We deserved that to say the least.
This game just shows, for me, that saka is one of, if not the most influential player in the league. We lost odegaard and we were still winning games and challenging the best. We lose saka and we look completely out of sorts.
One red card can be attributed to luck but 3 in 8 is consistency ! something that needs lot more scrutiny and analysis. It can’t always be unfair and non footballing reasons
I hope the rest of the players learn from that, and not do anything stupid again to cost us a red. three in 8 games is unacceptable. the players need to take responsibility.
it was a really bad day at the office overall. Everyone is to blame. Both manager and the players alike. The only positive in all of this, if there is one, is that Arsenal can't play much worse than this.
That was unacceptable from Arsenal. We were unfocused, and in the second half, it was evidently obvious. After when Sablia was sent off, we were poor and lazy.
Decent officiating. 100% red card. Hospital pass from trossard and moment of idiocy from saliba. Also, the subs were mikel were poor. What was the point of bringing on kiwior for sterling in the first half. Poor lineup, zero creativity in the midfield. Why mikel refuses to play nwaneri is a million pound question. Overall, from lineup to FT....it was a disasterclass We have dropped 7 points in the first 8 games. I cannot believe it.
Arteta lost us the game today. Taking Trossard off for Kiwior was criminal. All he had to do was move Partey to the right back, White takes Saliba's role, Merino/Rice midfield and still have three players to threaten upfront. Very poor from Arteta.
Nwaneri looked p**sed off on the bench from the coverage .. he may have brought the spark we needed .. Arteta needs to give him a go .. he’ll either sink or swim and then well know :: Chin up Gooners .. theres a long road ahead
@@johnporcella2375 We started with 3 Dms … Rice and Partey could hqve protected him 11 v 11 .. anyway a moot point .. We had no creativity today … onto the next one 💪👍
Penalty wasn't a penalty. It was a dive. The red was really a yellow but the VAR guys didn't show the ref the closeup view on the monitor. I will die on this hill.
Turkish's fan cam shows he speaks from his agenda. Although Trossard has never played well in Odegaard absence, Trossard has also played badly when he's started LW. He got his chance after scoring off the bench and failed horribly. No one talking about how Calafiori volleyed the ball into Trossard.
James, why does Arteta do these things every season ie change a shape abruptly that is working well under the circumstance like Trossard playing the 10 role & interchaging with Havertz, force fits Mikel Merino into a midfield that then loses all creativity, replaces only forward looking player (Sterling) and goes full tony pulis v 13 placed team? Then he waits till we go 2-0 down (around 80th minute) to make changes to bring the intensity that was required like 30 mins ago! He has gone full Villa at home last season mode that cost us the title!! It’s too early in the season to panic, but, my confidence is shot v Liverpool at home without Saka & Saliba, we again don’t have a plan B!!! 😢
Honestly for me, the lineup was good enough on paper to get three points. For me, the match was what you’d expect a first game back from international break to be however, big moments in football games are what decide them. We don’t get Saliba sent off, Sterling continues to build on his good start and maybe we have a different tune. We score that Martinelli chance it’s a different tune. My issue comes when the fanbase gets super emotional and says we lost the league in October! Everyone wants to be the first to say they said something! That’s our first lost in 15, you ask anyone this season if they’d thought we’d go invincible, they would say no! So let’s come back down to earth, and back the team.
Today also proved how vital certain players are to this team! Missed Saka’s chance creation and foul drawing ability. Gonna be Intresting to see the lineup against Liverpool with Saliba out, hopefully timber is back! 🤞🏾
It was a red for me. Both Trossard and Saliba are to be blamed. Marino did play as a 10 for Spain recently. The team Arteta chose could have won us the game barring the red. We have to keep in mind that subs play a part in the game too. I just think the team wasn't really at it. I hate when we lose but I didn't think we would have had an invincible season. Lets see what the upcoming games bring. I'm still optimistic. Last point: I think Sterling was doing well.
