My favorite bit from this film is how Jones tells the wife the story about how the guy killing the cow wounded his arm, and how he couldn't lift it above his head anymore, and how even against something as defenseless as a hung cow, there's still an element of chance. After Chigurh kills the wife, arguably the most defenseless person in the movie, he gets in a car wreck, breaking his arm and rendering him unable to lift it any higher than his ribs. Brilliant.

This is undoubtedly one of the best and most faithful adaptations I’ve ever seen, because it’s practically a word-for-word adaptation of the novel, but it somehow feels like a wholly unique Coen flick!

Easily my favorite movie of the last 20 years. Add to that, as a music major, i never noticed the lack of a soundtrack until the mariachi scene, when I realized it was the first real music of the movie. That's how much it had me enthralled by the dialog, acting, and directing.

I love how for the longest time I thought that it was ambiguous at the end if the wife is still alive or not but that small little detail of sugar checking his boots after he walks out pretty much confirms that she is dead

Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley said that this movie was a BIG inspiration behind The Last of Us. They had their minds blown when they walked out of the theatres and wondered how they can recreate that tension and tone in a video game. When I watched it for the very first time after playing TLoU multiple times, I truly understood what they meant.

Another great film from early in the Cohen Brothers career is Millers Crossing. Excellent writing, lush, beautifully done cinematography and gorgeous sets. Gabriel Byrne and Albert Finney are the lead charterers. Also great sound track. Have it on DVD and seen it at least 10 times, never gets old.

I remember first time I've tried to watch it I was a teenager and I had to stop on the scene with tossing the coin in the shop, it was so intense to me, that dialog. I went back to it after I turned 25, cause I knew it's worth it. And I'm glad I did it that way, when I was younger it was just a scary movie, later I could actually see some meaning in it, I could pay attention to the characters and their perspective on things. While still being scared like hell and intimidated by Chigurh of course, absolutely the scariest guy ever, Bardem did an amazing job.

Elisabeth Larsen It’s a fantastic book! The Coen Brothers were really faithful to the book, as I recall. I haven’t read No Country in awhile, but I remember thinking that they were going right along with the book when I originally watched it.

Susan Maggiora You’re correct. The film is especially faithful because Cormac McCarthy originally intended to write the story as a film script and what became the novel still feels (reads) like one.

This movie was so good, every time I watch it I love it more. In this film, just because you're the hero, it doesn't mean you will win. But it also told us that just because you're the villain, it doesn't mean you're immune to the world.

If you haven't seen it I recommend watching the movie Hell or High Water. Starring Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges. The best way I can describe it is a western set in the modern day. I'm not exactly sure why this movie reminded me of Hell or High Water, because the only two western things in this movie are Tommy Lee Jones's character and Josh Brolin's character. They just happened to find themselves not in western, but in a horror or thriller movie.

When he kills woodys character, you can see that he moves his shoes Away from the Blood, And he takes his shoes of in the motel. This is so they dont Get messy. And when they cut before you can see If he kills Lewellyns wife, he stops to check his shoes for Blood. Meaning that he probably killed her

Wow I thought I had noticed every small thing in this movie, but I had never caught the fact that they show a bloody quarter in Chigurh's hand when he has the motel shootout, thus giving a new meaning to the earlier scene in the gas station. This movie is incredible, and your commentary is amazing!

So wait... does that mean he kills the guy at the gas station after all? That changes things quite a bit in that he doesn’t follow his own strict rule. Especially since he supposedly left it with the attendant as his “lucky quarter.” Or is it another quarter from an earlier flip? The damn bloody quarter raises more questions than answers!

@@bradforddillman7671 I believe that this bloody quarter is meant to show the audience what the stakes were in the earlier scene. In the gas station scene, while we can all infer that Chigurh was going to kill the attendant if he guessed wrong, we don't actually know what could have happened if he guessed wrong. As Brandon pointed out, we didn't 100% know the stakes. Showing a bloody quarter in a future scene shows the audience that the stakes were, in fact, life or death for the attendant. It also shows that Chigurh does this coin flip ritual more times than we see in the movie.

Miller’s Crossing is another Coen Brothers gem. You’ll love it.
