You two should react to the movie Iron Eagle on your other channel because One Vision is played when Doug Masters is flying the Jet. You guys will love Iron Eagle 👍 I hope you guys see this comment because I don't think mine are getting through
Yes, he does indeed sing “fried chicken” at the very end. There are great clips from the recording sessions when he just improvises lyrics for this song, for example “one dump, one turd, two tits John Deacon”.
And then, back in the day, Freddy played again and again videotapes to his friends, at his private home parties, of the concerts of Prince... 'A Kind Of Magic' was my last favourite album from Queen. I wrote 'album'.
One of the few songs where I, actually, prefer the cover version! [MetallicA's vers. for Elektra Records 40th anniv. "Rubaiyat"] -as any, real, metal historian knows: Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy" and Black Sabbath's "Symptom Of The Universe" (which appeared less than a year after the release of: Sheer Heart Attack - which is the Queen album with: "Stone Cold Crazy" on it.) are, commonly & oft spoken-of as: "thrash-metal before there was thrash-metal" and core pieces of music which influenced the early players/writers in the genre. ...the aggressive, speed-laden tempos of the songs; but, particularly: the drumming (in style) ...as well the, overall, "sharpness" and/or directed aggression [which was. AT BEST! "uncommon" in ANY musical "genre," at those times!] of those 2 songs, certainly, became touchstones as well as "guideposts" for thrash-metal, in the '80s!
@@PatriciaGass-hc3cuI honestly think the best song from that concert has to be "Hammer to Fall" with Gary Cherone of Extreme (coughandVanHalenForOneAlbumCough) and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, but I'm not sure there's a single weak link from that entire concert except, and Robert Plant agrees with me, Robert Plant singing "Innuendo". _This includes Spinal Tap._
Yup , had that album ,Sheer Heart Attack ,back in 75 or so. It also had "Killer Queen " and another great tune I forget name of .. Something about "My new purple shoes are amazing the people upstairs ."
It always amazes me when people forget that Queen are a ROCK band! Some of the greateat guitar solos and drum riffs were Queen absolutely rockin' out! Listen to ' I Want It All' for example, it will make you bang your head, no doubt! 🙌
I like how the video starts and ends with footage from Bohemian Rhapsody merging with this song. Also the humour when Freddie ends the song asking for fried chicken
This was the first song that Queen recorded coming off of their success at Live Aid. And it was during the sessions for One Vision, that Queen was approached by Russell Mulcahy to record music for his film Highlander. And yes, he DID say fried chicken. So apparently, fried chicken was their one vision… They must’ve been hungry at the time.
They were always fooling around with the lyrics! There is a video of that as well, this was meant to honor Martin Luther King, and the fried chicken, pure Freddie,he wanted to end it that way and he did
Pure talent. That song was a plethora of talent and different vibes. It was also a homage, in remembrance, in honor and nod to Dr. MLK Jr. One vision and look what they’ve done to my dream. There’s no black or no white. It’s an awesome song but It makes it even more awesome and beautiful tribute to what MLK did. He was a good man with such a good heart. Two legends who changed the world as we know it. 😘❤️🎶🎼🎵🎤🎧🎸🥁🎹🎶🎼🎵🎤🎧🎸🥁🎹
This and "Hammer to Fall" are probably my favorite two songs that the casual Queen fans seem to miss out on. Although more people are aware of Hammer now since it was part of their Live Aid performance that has gotten a lot more attention in recent years. Doesn't look like you've reviewed that song yet, so I'd definitely recommend you check it out. And as others have mentioned, "Stone Cold Crazy" is a rocker. That one rocks so hard that Metallica even did a cover of it.
This and Hammer to Fall are two songs I HAVE to listen to pretty much on a daily basis! Hammer to Fall (Live Aid 1985) is one of my all time favorite videos.
This song was in the movie Iron Eagle. They've also done a kind of behind the scenes of the writing/recording of this on their YT page called "Queen - One Vision Documentary". I love many of their songs, but this has to be one that's near the top! Yes, Amber, you heard right, Freddie said Fried Chicken!! LOL
Actually; this was the movie's theme song. The reason why it's so hard was because of the movie's theme. It was on the album "It's A Kind Of Magic," which was the soundtrack for the movie "The Highlander"
@@TheRatsCast Had forgotten it was the theme song, but just remember that any time I hear it, I think of the movie as I really like the movie (it's been forever since I've seen it).
There’s also a video of the making of this video which is excellent. It shows the behind the scenes of writing this song and recording. You’ll love it!
This is such a great effing song! It's just always felt like, after they gave arguably the greatest live performance in the history of rock at Live Aid in July 1985, Queen said, "Oh, right. We're the best rock band in the world. Let's do more of that." Then they went into the studio in September and recorded this absolute beast of a song!!
@@gmdhargreaves? This was a single of theirs in Nov '85. This particular extended version was only as a single on 12-inch vinyl, but the song itself was released in the usual formats without the longer solo section.
For context... this song is from their album "A Kind of Magic"; which was the soundtrack for the 1986 film "Highlander" (6 out of 9 songs from the album were used for the film).
This is a very good song. The message is still relevant today. Freddie sings with passion. Good rock anthem. One voice, one hope, one true religion, one race, there's no black and no white. This song was inspired by Martin Luther King. Awesome reaction ❤.
Don't be so surprised when Queen rocks out, they have classic bangers sprinkled throughout their catalog. If you really want some 70s hard rock Queen, check the first few albums, there are some killer tunes you guys have not heard yet. Believe me, you are past the tip of the iceberg but there is most of it left. Try the official video for Liar off their first album, great banger of a track. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎶
@@Danielik25 Early Queen blows reactors minds as they are surprised by how rocking they were, no surprise to me, I saw their first 3 tours, they killed it in those days.
Agreed re: BOTH Liar and Stone Cold Crazy! Always surprised Rob Squad hasn't done Stone Cold Crazy yet if they want a banger! There's a reason James Hetfield sang it at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and Metallica later covered it. Queen invented a genre! For the other end of the spectrum, check out '39, written and sung by Brian May. Which planet is 0.39 astronomical units from the sun? Mercury.
Glad you liked this so much. This is just a part of the Making Of One Vision video. Now you can catch Queen doing this song LIVE in concert in 1986 at either Budapest, Hungary OR either of their Wembley concerts that year.
I love Queen they are my all time band. The day that Freddie passed away I broke my heart I didn't stop crying for hours. Watching him now still makes me tear up. One vision...only one Freddie R.I.P.
I was in retail management the day it was announced, at 6:45am I think it was there was a knock on the door and a box with 100 queen hits 2 was handed to me. I put it on the sterio and turned it up, It played all day on repeat. Absolutely no complaints, the shop opposite had their doors jammed open so their customers could hear too.
Another great Queen tune that's often overlooked. Another overlooked tuned by Queen you should check out is Hammer to fall. Thanks always enjoy your show as usual
I love your reaction videos. They're making me re-examine songs I've heard all my life. Love Queen. Wish I saw them when Freddie was still alive. Did you know the guitarist, Brian May, has a PhD. In astrophysics and he was recently knighted by King Charles?
@@chrisbayliss3532Yes,Saturday 13th July 1985. The historic day! One Vision was in fact the next single Queen released after Live Aid,peaking at number 3 if I remember correctly in November that year.
This was in the Main Battle scene in the movie "Iron Eagle" '86. You really need to see Queens Live Aid performance. Over 20 minute's and so worth it. If you're going to a look back at alternate videos you must watch Lynyrd Skynyrd Live in Oakland '77 doing Free Bird. As always Thanks for the Memories and the smiles.
Lynyrd Skynyrd live Free bird 1976 they did the one thing no one was allowed to do on the Rolling Stones stage and played the solo on the tongue, Ronnie Van Zandt was the man.
What I love about Queen is that the "theatrics" of their music are noy there to make up for a lack of talent, as with some other bands. QUEEN's theatrics just add another level to an already INCREDIBLE band!!!
This is such a great song, initially written by Roger about Martin Luther King but Roger went on vacation and when he got back, Freddie had messed with the lyrics quite a bit but Roger said was fine with the changes. There is a video called "The Making of One Vision" that you guys might enjoy either on your own time or as a reaction. It is really fun to see them all working together in the studio to make the song the best it can be. Thank you for your reactions, they were fun to watch. If you watch the making of video, you will see that at one point, Freddie was singing a Chinese take out menu as the lyrics for this song. It was fun and right in Freddie's sense of humor wheelhouse. The band decided to leave just the Fried Chicken lyric at the end. Strangely enough, once when Martin Luther King was asked what his favorite food was, he answered "Fried Chicken." Whether or not any of the band members knew this at the time of the recording, I don't know but it works with the original theme of the song.
You're thinking of kind of magic Freddie thought it could be a hit. Rogers version is in the film Freddie tinkered version is on the album and single he added a bass line more guitar and re arranged it This sing was based off Rogers sing but as John explained in the ' making of' Freddie had adked them to come in to do a collab sing as a group but Roger turned up with a full song! So they dismantled andcre wrote it! But the essence us still there
This song was featured in 1986 film Iron Eagles. It is also the first track on the album A Kind of Magic. Every other track from that album is featured in the movie Highlander.
Queen goes hard on soundtracks. This one (Iron Eagle), "Princes of the Universe" (Highlander), and "Flash" (Flash Gordon) are all serious 80s hard-rock bangers.
I absolutely adore you two cute kids. I’m sorry you were raised this late, Rob. I was a kid of the ‘70’s & a teen of the ‘80’s and I can tell that you TOTALLY missed out on your true decades. Queen was… (and will always be) the sh*its. This song is a perfect example. Us “old school” didn't know what to make of the new stuff. Rob… I'm impressed. You know what you're doing. This really IS how we used to do it… and we didn't even think about it. It just was what it was… Rock!
same. I’m 50 will be turning 51 in December. Born in December 1972, the sweet spot i call it. appreciate the 1980’s music from an age where i can kinda understand it. To appreciate the rise of Madonna, Michael Jackson (solo career), Prince, Whitney, etc, then the 1990’s of course ti grunge etc.
The whole "A Kind of Magic" CD is KILLER... this is the opener (also from the movie Iron Eagle) and filled with tracks from The Highlander movie ... one of my favorite Queen albums.
I really needed to hear this song tonight, especially with everything going on in the world. I wish we all had the same vision of unity. Maybe we all need to put our differences aside and come together and have some fried chicken, lol! I love you guys! Thank you for listening to Queen! 👑❤️
What an amazing story. Queen, already rock legends but by 1985 were seen as past their prime and has-beens, despite having a huge hit the year before with "Radio Ga Ga," did Live Aid and gave a performance of their career. IT was so strong, they went back into the studio and while they were working on the new album, got approached to do the soundtrack to Highlander. The resulting album was fantastic and gave them enough of a comeback that they were releasing new, and very good, music all the way up until Freddie died in 1991. If he had lived, they would likely still be together and would have been able to take advantage of the huge swell of renewed interest in 80s music that came up in the early 2000s.
They had lost America Were still doing well everywhere else The works album 84 uk no 2 Radio gaga no 2 Brake free no 3 Hard life no 6 Hammer to fall no 13 ( love kills no 10) Just finished a workd tour Except us Rio two night 250 000 - 300 000 audience jan 85 Not exactly has beens Their concern was what the response would be due to sun city they had a lot of critisism
they most definitely would be together still. John just couldn't go on after Freddie's passing. and i think the Tribute concert for Freddie was the only time he got back up on stage with the other members of Queen.
I think you haven't reacted to Queen live aid. Maybe I made a mistake but if you haven't this is a must. It was name the best live performance of the music history.
It wasn't that they were past their prime, the choice to play Sun City put them in a self created spot where they were not blacklisted, maybe ignored is a better way of putting it by the music industry. Live Aid saved them.
Yes, Freddie Mercury sang the lyric, “fried chicken”, at the end of the song. It was originally done as a joke during the recording session, but surprisingly, the studio producer and sound engineer kept it in the final take for the recording.
Thank you so much for regularly reacting to Queen songs. Please consider reacting to these two songs on your next few Queen reactions: “Steve Me“ their ballad released in 1980 will give you chills and “Good Old-Fashioned Lover Bo” released in 1977. Both bangers!
Yes, at the end, they do say "fried chicken". If I remember correctly, the story is that they did a take with that line as a joke, and liked it so much that they put it in the song. If you want to combine movie reaction with Queen reaction, I would suggest the movie Highlander. The soundtrack is by Queen, and the song Princes of the Universe is bangin'.
You guys should really consider reacting to Queen’s Live Aid concert performance. I think you’ve reacted to most of the songs individually, so you can see them performed live in front of 80,000 people in London while being simulcast to millions world wide on live TV. Queen was the highlight of the day, U2 was also great!
Completely agree. On a normal day, U2’s performance would have blown everyone away. They were great, but Queen was in another stratosphere that day. Definitely worthy of a reaction.
Got to agree 100% that you should check out the Queen live aid performance, I think it will blow your socks off& would love to see your reaction to it.
Be sure you get the version that starts out with two British comedians doing their thing while the stage hands get things switched over for Queen. There's another version going around that cuts off half of the last song.
Nice to see you having the same reaction as myself and friends way back when this first came out, I`m 72 now and still adore queen. Very lucky to be able to live through the best years of music.
I first heard this when I was "in the field" in the Army in the 80's. Alone, tired, middle of the night, only had an FM radio with some cheap headphones. I had heard mostly garbage for days and I was thinking I was never going to hear anything good. Then this song hit and I couldn't believe how great it sounded. I really needed something and this was it. Felt much better about life. :) Hard to believe that was 38 years ago...
One of the greatest songs of Queen, and that's saying something! Please react to the movie Highlander! Queen did the entire soundtrack! And it's a fantastic movie!
Guys! One of these days you have to react to the performances by David Bowie, Annie Lennox, Elton John, axl Rose AND George Michael for the Freddie Mercury tribute concert that was held in His memory. It Is a series of songs by queen played AND performed by all these a listers musicians
As long as we’re back on Queen for the time being, I once again can’t recommend enough “Hammer To Fall”, “Stone Cold Crazy” and “Who Wants To Live Forever”. 😉👍🏻
"The Making of 'One Vision'" is fantastic fun you should see now that you have seen the finished product. It's hilarious and a beautiful look at these four men working together to create magic. Great reaction!! Love you both!
Just four musical geniuses having fun in the studio together. And rockin' your socks off.💫 So glad you both loved it & appreciate their talents. Now you need to see/hear their funky side..."Dragon Attack", the live Montreal version AND the studio version are BOTH musts for any new & old fans & reactors! 💙💫💙💫💙💫💙💫💙💫💙💫💙
I was just rewatching your Barcelona reaction and when it was finished this popped up, as others have suggested you should check out the live at Wembley version it was their opening song and the crowd is jumping from the second Freddie runs onstage. In the documentary version you see them and the long creative process they went through to create this song and ... yes he said fried chicken, it was from the chinese food menu that was laying around so Freddie had a little fun changing up the lyrics. I love everything about this song 👑 Queen never disappoints.
This has always been up there as one of my faves from them. This one and Princes of the Universe. Both are amazing hope songs, and tend to get overlooked.
If you like heavier Queen?, check out Dragon Attack by them. And yes do retakes. Like the other day with Bob Seger’s beautiful loser. You gotta do Travelin’ man/Beautiful loser off of silver bullet live. That’s the one they do on the radio actually.
Fantastic song! After having just had one of the most iconic performances at LIVE AID they released this banger and the new album A KIND OF MAGIC. Queen was inspired to write "One Vision after their LIVE AID performance and seeing how their show and the whole concert brought people together for a common cause and how people reacted to them that day. Queen doesn't make bad music. This song is also a nod to MLK. My recommendation is that you both sit and watch the entire LIVE AID show from July 1985. AMAZING! But especially the set for Queen. They had the crowd in the palm of their hands and it brought this band back to life, showcasing the talent of this band and Freddie's vocals. No one did it as well and there were some damn good bands. If you don't know, LIVE AID was a concert being played at the same time in England's Wembley Stadium and Philadelphia's Veteran's Stadium with artists from many styles & genre's for African famine relief that was inspired by Bob Geldof's genius after the songs "Do They Know its Christmas" and "We Are the World" were so successful. Geldof felt more needed to be done and that this concert would be huge. And it was. It is an iconic moment in music history.
They opened their live at Wembley shows with this song, which you should checkout! Queen were primarily a hard rock band on their first two albums but by their third album, Sheer heart attack, they incorporated more pop elements like Killer Queen into their repertoire for which they became very famous.
Asking again that you consider listening to their most overlooked song. Try listening to It's Late. It's quintessential Queen rock. Fabulous vocals and flawless musicianship backing. Plus, not many reaction videos cover it.
Another British rock band you don't seem to have reacted to is XTC formed in the 70s. Consider reacting to their songs like, Generals and Majors, Making Plans for Nigel, Dear God, Ballad of Peter Pumpkin Head, Senses Working Overtime, Mayor of Simpleton, King For A Day.
You are so much fun to watch! Great song indeed! One Vision was made after Queen's stunning performance at Live Aid. It was mainly the audience there that gave them the energy to get back into the studio and create a song that reflected the feeling of being on stage. With MLK's words 'I Have a Dream,..' in mind, they realized they were living a dream and that their music could unite people of all kinds. Next suggestion "Hammer to Fall" LIVE or you watch the 20 minutes of Live Aid where that song is on the setlist. Then you can experience the energy yourself!
this is one of my favorite songs from Queen. They started their concerts with this song on the Europa Tour 1985 1. One Vision 2. Tie Your Mother Down. In this Clip you can see Reinhold Mack. He was the german sound engineer for many years
This is such a fun video to watch and understand. Yes, it was a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and included their own feelings about the state of the world at that time. Have no idea what they would think of the mess we are in now! Roger came with the words and then Freddie, Brian and Roger re-worked a good portion of it. John Deacon came late as he had been on holiday. When you watch the behind the scenes video of making this, you get to see a lot of fun things. Brian almost always wears clogs so you see him in his clogs. They were having trouble getting the lines into the available notes and there is a great scene of them trying to work out the meshing of lyric with the music. There are candid areas where Freddie ad libs about John Deacon and yes, they really do say "fried chicken" at the end. Throughout the time Freddie and John Deacon can be seen wearing each others shirts and John is playing drums at some point. Just an amazing song, by an amazing group and will forever be one of my favorites. I am seeing Brian, Roger and Adam Lambert in Denver on November 5th and can't wait. I saw them just before the pandemic and this is a continuation of that tour that I think is still being called the BoRap tour but if it is the same, they don't do this song, which I wish they did. Anyway, you could play Queen songs everyday and be totally blown away by the diversity in their music.
Great reaction guys the First Time I heard this song was in the movie Iron Eagle ( you should check it out). Yes Amber heard it correctly - here's why: According to Jim Hutton, Freddie regularly made up joke lyrics when the band rehearsed. These would be in-jokes, and often filthy. Instead of ‘One Vision’ Freddie said ‘fried chicken’ as one of these throwaway jokes lines. As I remember the album lyric sheet doesn’t acknowledge this and claims the line is “one vision”, which it clearly isn’t. Again great reaction as usual as usual guys and great pic :)
OMG you are from the wrong era 😂, I'm 53, fel in love with Freddie when I was 11 years old, thinking that man was the gift from God to woman (ehm yeah). At school we usaly sang to be gradet for our exams. Everybody sang a song like 'row row row your boot' and me, seaside rendyvoux. Check out the first 3 albums you will love it. And YES I attended a live concert in 1986. Epic!!!!!!! Thank you for your reaction, enjoyed it, warm hug from a stranger from the Netherlands ❤
