Your comment makes 0 sense. Dude says "shame songs like these are long gone" and then you come up with even older one :D That moment when you try to be smart, but you fail on epic level.@@casuallygotgood7174
I usually never like covers of already fantastic songs, but I give No Doubt kudos for their version of this amazing song. Talk Talk was a uniquely fantastic group of talented musicians. Mark Hollis' voice was so different and fantastic. They became one of my most listened to band all these years later...
Please spare a thought for the wonderful Mark Hollis who wrote this song and who died yesterday, 25th February 2019. For those who don't know, Mark Hollis was lead singer of the 80's British band "Talk Talk." If you have never heard Talk Talk's version of this track, which was the original by the way, do yourself a favour and check it out.
Even he himself wasn't hugely proud of this song, or the album Do yourself a favour and listen to spirit of Eden and laughing stock That shows his real genius
I couldn't agree with you more on both points. Paul Webb's bass line in the refrain reminds me of something John Paul Jones or McCartney would come up with.
I owe this song a tonne for introducting me to Talk Talk. One of my favourite bands, but before my time, and long-gone from the charts when this cover dropped in '03.
@@KevinStriker Same here. I first heard this song in 2022 playing at more work as the playlist was all 90s and 00s hits. I loved it a lot and downloaded it to my phone. I discovered the original one from Talk Talk too but refrained from downloading immediately… well a year and a half later and many more song downloads later the music at my work started to change as it does every few months and at the time it went from 2010s & 20s hits to the 70s and 80s and thats when I finally could hear Talk Talks version being played 😅
Look up the word iconic and use it properly. Everything and everyone is "iconic" these day, it's the most over and missed used word on youtube. It was a popular Video hardly "iconic"
I absolutely love this song. No Doubt made it their very own. My gawd is Gwen gorgeous! She absolutely stunning, alluring, captivating. Iconic video of bygone era but this song and video always brings me back. Make more music together No Doubt!
Gwen still to this day makes me get goosebumps with her performance as an artist and also the story she tells in her music. She screams womens true power and I love that about her.
The unique sound of Gwen's voice works really well with this song. One of those rare occasions where a cover is as good as the original. A little different, but equally good... in my opinion.
BILLBOARD DEFINES 1-hit Wonder as a group with only one song in the US HOT 100’s top forty positions. Talk talk fits that criteria (It’s My Life at 31). NO DOUBT VERSION went to number 9 .
Heard this banger again at the gym, I haven’t heard this in years. Gwen’s voice makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Her voice is so powerful, she’s so underrated can’t believe this came out 20 years ago. I feel old, this song screams 2003/2004 but I love it. Back when pop music was amazing, we went from the likes of Gwen to Sam Smith, take me back. The world was better then.
Yeah, Gwen Stefani is so underrated that she's all you could hear on the radio 24/7 until like maybe 2010. Y'all need to retire the word underrated, it means someone didn't get the recognition they deserved. "Don't Speak," "Just A Girl" and "Hey Baby" were so popular anyone could recognize the melody in seconds. Hollaback Girl" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart while also becoming the first US download to sell one million copies. She has won three Grammys and multiple Billboard and other awards. How is she underrated? Evidence leans toward the opposite- Gwen has been so popular that it may have made it difficult for any other female pop/alternative vocalist to get their breakthrough. This happened with the Beatles too.
@@MrPianogeek dude, chill out. This is his/her preference. You know, it's like a taste. It isn't the same as that of yours. Get over it and don't post tldr tirades about someone's personal musical taste 🤦♂
Wow so BS’s ex fans not so happy that in 2016 “ It’s My Life “ still played on the radios huh? That BS’d said he didn’t know that’s GS’s covered song when he picked up her at the airport !!!
How is their cover of Talk Talk 20 years old now. Insane. I remember watching the MV at my university’s library because of the high speed internet. Literally one of the best covers ever 🔥✨👌🏼🙌🏼🤯
What's even crazier is that the original "It's My Life" wasn't even quite 20 years old when No Doubt covered it. This would be like some 2020s band covering No Doubt from 2003. Time is crazy.
This covered version more popular n famous than the old one which BS’s ex fans hate it coz her little red wagon not popular and famous n her Kerosene is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist ML! She completely rewrote the melody of someone else’s song and then she was accused of Plagiarism, she had to recognize the author as a co-author!
She is utterly the definition of the most awesome woman setting the tone as one of greatest female artists! Gwen has been around all my life and just keeps getting more beautiful as time moves on! Now with Blake Shelton, i hope he truly realizes whom his wife is? Ive loved this woman all my life! Thanks Gwen for being there over all the years! ❤
They refreshed this song perfectly. Just updated the feel and energy... and voila!!!! Everything is already built into a great song. Long live Mark Hollis!!!
This is how you remake a cover and make it your own. This is one of the best covers of a song I've ever heard. I love how No Doubt put a rock and pop spin on this. The visuals of the video are superb. I love Gwen's old Hollywood look.
I’ve been listening to this cover my entire life and never once even looked to see if No Doubt made their own music video to go with it. Thoroughly enjoyed. 10/10.
Not only that she did a great rendition of talk talk it's my life she kept the original lyrics intact just only up-tempo the beat which was kind of sweet
@Valentina Valley if you ever get a chance watch the original music video talk talk it's my life you'll see she kept the original beat intact and just up-tempo It nicely done😍
Twenty years ago there was No Doubt this band told the world "It's My Life" in this song. Gwen Stefani and band mates really ruled the pop scene from the Late Nineties to the Mid 2000s with their unique sound and style.
@@raviii398 no way! Everything now is so commercialized and corporate, artificial and auto tuned.. No comparison to the early 2000’s and ESPECIALLY no comparison to the 90’s.
Samael51760 The orignal is good but I prefer female vocals and I massively prefer the instruments in this one. But you’ve really got to give credit to Hollis for creating it originally
This is definitely an exception. I used to think remakes or cover songs were terrible. But then I opened up to Disturbed, Korn, Marilyn Manson, RHCP, Johnny Cash, Whitney Houston, Nirvana, Shinedown and Metallica... ok, Metallica remakes mostly suck, but I stand by the rest as redeemable.
It takes a master to creat but anyone can copy! Having said that i do like 'No doubts' cover but they are not the masters or even in the same universe as Talk Talk.
Gwen’s cover of this song is spot on. I absolutely love how she didn’t put her spin on it, she sang it as it was meant to be. The original artists was an English band called Talk Talk and it came out in 1984. Both groups did a great job with this song.
Well Talk Talk were the ones who created this song originally so the credit goes entirely for them and the original is the best, sorry! But with that being said, I dont hate this cover. I hated it when it came out because Talk Talk to me is untouchable, but I am older now and I give gave this cover a chance and it doesn’t suck.
Lefreakful I gave Talk Talk all the credit of being the original artists. And really I was giving No Doubt the credit of singing the song as is. They did a good job. I never really have paid attention to the video too much. And Dan..yeah
Something about this song is heavenly. Like everyone around me is getting slower and the world is moving infinitely faster. It's like i'm experiencing my full fate.
I know it's a JoJo reference but I am looking at your Enter the Gungeon profile picture... and a few minutes ago i have been thinking how this song could be the convict's (aka Laser Lily) theme song - the cool female outlaw. She has these Jolyne vibes in my opinion.
Damn, Gwen Stefani has been killing it since the 90s. She had such strong femininity and girl power before it was even popular. Props to this badass queen! She was my childhood idol growing up and continues to be to this day.
@@britishjournalistinjapanma6120 i mean this song shouldt hardly be considered a great achievement It's almost an insult, when you consider the dramatic and innovative stuff he did with Talk Talk's lat two albums
It’s sad how many people don’t even know this is a cover. This version has so many more views than the original. It should specify in the title, or at least the description, that this is a cover. Talk Talk never got the recognition they deserve.
Pretty amazing evolution. Being born in 1980 and listening to all the great 80s songs that played in our house on MTV. Then listening to rap and alternative music in the 90s as a teen and then as a young man listening to 2000's music. You couldn't get any more different than Laura branigan and Gwen Stefani. Whitney Houston and Alicia Keyes.... Makes me think what kind of music kids will listen to 10 years from now and how it will be different than what they listen to today.
I love the plot to this video. She kills her first guy because he's a prick who takes her for granted. The second is better to her, but still doesn't seem very considerate of her feelings and boundaries. By the third one, he doesn't really do anything wrong, but by that point, she either kills him out of fear of being hurt again, or just because she enjoys it and thinks it's only a matter of time before does something to deserve it, better safe than sorry.

@@415campos4 I don't know dude I'm commenting on the amazing bass line. Go harass someone else with this question. Or you know, there is this amazing website called Google.
@@415campos4 I'm going to apologize. My answer was a little hostile. Just was in a mood when I read it lol. But I truly have no idea. I just love the killer bass line
ShakeITyEA Not even taking your bait and arguing with you. A piece of dog shit is worth more of my time than you lol. What a sad, pathetic life you must have to go onto youtube and try to get people to fight with you. Just because your life sucks doesn't mean you have to drag other people down with you. Grow up.
To everyone doing their homework, breathe slowly, take a sip of water, and focus. To everyone who is trying to sleep, leave the chat, grab a blanket, and get the rest you deserve. To everyone who is sad, grab a snack, have some water, get a blanket, and write down your thoughts. When you're done, lay down and get some rest, no matter the time. To everyone who is creating, you got this. Your creation looks terrific. Remain in your flow and get stuff done! These are not my words but spread them and copy paste
The original intent of this beautiful song by Talk Talk is animal rights and animals' voiceless struggle to not be killed for no good reason but this is absolutely the best of all covers of it. The transference of lyrical meaning to describe a condemned person's plight and Gwen looking so much like poor Ruth Ellis is sadly sublime.
My gosh, Gwen is so great in this video. Total Harlow, ferocious. It's all so good. Why did the music industry just give up on making videos like this?
One of Talk Talk`s finest, this version is great as well as it brings a different dimension to the track without making a pigs breakfast out of it. Naughty jail guard having a grope at 2.30, dirty boy keep your hands to yourself.
this song always reminds me of a memory when this cd first came out my so called best friends and I were obessed with this song. we wanted to try out for the 7th grade talent show and do a routine dance to this song. my mom bought me the cd and I came up with the great choreography, we practiced at my house every day, my cousin even made us custom made t shirts but we were set! then the day before the talent show they ask me if I could not be in the talent show because I was chubby and they were thinking I would ruin the chances of them winning. I was so upset and hurt because I thought they were my friends but I agreed to just let them do it. they had nerve to ask me if they could still use my cd. I said yes and I would give the cd and track # to the kid in charge of playing the music. I gave him my niece's sesame Street cd and instead of playing it's my life it played elmo's world when they were on stage! they were so embarrassed but i had to get back at them. I found real beat friends after that and now that we are adults they recently added me on facebook, I lost alot of weight and I'm thinner than both of them, one gained over 60 pounds and the other one has been divorced twice with 4 kids from 3 different men and she's not even 30 years old yet! lol. karma!
+Your.Dearest. (me refiro ao relacionamento inter-pessoal).ha ha ha
it's amazing how Tony's Bass drives all of No Doubt's Discography he's such an underrated bass player, the marriage between his lines and Gwen's Vocals is what makes the music so great
Listening to this in 2024, still one of the greatest songs ever made! So proud of my local band I grew up with coming back and killing it at Coachella!
It's funny how growing up, I would hate when my sister (also named Gwen) played No doubt but now I'm much older and revisiting all of these songs. They're actually so so so good
