Product is fun, but it's a $129CAD product than usually drop to $79-89 because it sell badly. Now they ask $169-199 for the bedard tax.. It's hard to swallow.
Very true. Albeit, Bedard year products won’t drop much in price, and should trend up as boxes deplete. Just like 15/16. I personally never blame card companies. They are private entities, with free agency. No one is forcing anyone to buy. There are dozens and dozens of products and years. Most other years are completely tanking in price, due to consumers only focusing on 23/24. Thrifty consumers should buy all those tanking years. And if they want a Bedard card, buy it directly on eBay once his cards flood the market, and prices correct. It’s just supply/demand, like all other markets, whether housing, iPhones, concert tickets, etc. If ppl don’t want to buy two boxes, buy a TV or a gym membership instead.
Ya, I’m not sure I fully get the point of dismissing products that break paradigms, and thus remain relatively affordable and niche. For me at least, unique offerings are my sweet spot. The notion that everything must be UDS, SPA, Premier, or Cup completely misses the point of a hobby. Should every comic book be Marvel? Should all music be Taylor Swift? Should we only eat Italian and trash Indian because it’s too spicy? Should every video game be The Last of Us? Instead of booing products, why not just buy what you like, not what you are told to value. I always love products like Champ’s, Full Force, ITG, or Synergy particularly if they don’t sell. Prices come down, and those who know… know. And I doubt kids would dislike colorful hard plastic cards.
True. I’d argue that almost all sets that are not Upper Deck Series are insert sets, because the present generation doesn’t like base and doesn’t set build. Synergy is simply an acetate set like historical UD Ice. The red plastic base (parallels) are probably most enjoyed by children, and ppl like myself who love reinterpretations of what cards can be. And when niche products tank in price, they translate to an entry point for shallower pockets, casual observers experimenting at the margins of the hobby, and - again - kids who don’t have pre-baked assumptions or fixations on “value.”
@Fultoncards it have become the set of fancy acetate cards with a base set of one red parallel per pack. Granted the FX inserts last 2 years were cool. This year the retro one is ok but not my favorite. And the bounty cards another thing this set has and gets some people chasing the parallel set of cards.
Perhaps. When I was 16, when we were talking about our relationship, my gf said to me matter-of-fact: “appreciate, don’t assess.” That stuck with me my entire life. While I am a very critical and analytical thinker, I have never seen things as good or bad. Most things connect with me on some level. And, when they don’t, I rarely feel the need to compare them to things that do. And often see the greater context of where things might find their own rightful place. Yes, some songs are better than others. But that’s just a personal appreciation. I have never believed in dogma.
