your pipes were frozen, heating up the house thawed them, but keep and eye open for leaks, next time you leave the house in cold weather leave the hot water tap on just a drizzle, and get heat tape for your pipes.

the hot water taps were all working, the pipes weren't frozen. It's the hot water heater that isn't heating, i promise you lol

All that time rouging it in her van made dealing without power more tolerable, I'm guessing. For us regular folk, being without power is a major inconvenience. But maybe the lack of power is the reason for a shorter video this week.

For instance, living without electricity and running water from the tap..... Its "rough" or "hard" to live without those things that you're accustomed to having, but you CAN find a way to adjust and make do with what you have. We all can survive with much less than what we're accustomed to having, and many people do live their every day lives with far less than what we have. Always be grateful for what you have and never take it for granted that you will always have it. Anything can happen at any time, and what would you do if suddenly you somehow lost everything that you have? Would you be able to "rough it" and find a way to survive?? Or would you just say oh woe is me and lay down and fade away? Of course the best option is to find a way to survive. Never take life for granted, and never give up!!!! Its also useful to think ahead and have a back up plan for life's most important necessities. What are those basic necessities that you absolutely need to survive??? And where would you need to go to find them, what would you have to do to obtain them? "Food for thought"....in case you're wondering what that term means, it means something to think about. 🍃🤔🍃 🍃🤗🍃

I keep as much water in milk jugs as my freezers will hold. This serves 3 purposes. 1. Your freezer won't run as much.2. Keeps your food cold during a power outage. 3. If you're on a well, you can thaw it and use it when the power is out.

@@brianpulstsr8680 we do as well, and worse case scenario during hurricane Sandy we piled snow in a shaded area, placed all our frozen food exposed over night then placed it in coolers under the snow. Drastic I know but here the temps warmed up in 2 days and we had no power for 10 days. When we finally got power back we lost nothing, thankfully!

Hi Stephanie, sorry to ask such a vague question but for someone who is only just starting to understand the importance of back-up power (solar) etc) but who knows zero.. do you have any tips on a starting point? I’m bothered about watching too many youtube vids and spending money on stuff that actually won’t help in reality.

Bought solar lights that were easily charged, portable panels, batteries, torches, radio, generator etc. As a newly divorced mother I did not have the funds to convert my home so I started at the lowest cost point. My kitchen remodel will include a solar kit geared for small off grid living and is reasonably affordable. It is easy to become overwhelmed especially as cost can be scary. I shopped sales and focused on immediate needs based on past experiences.

Yes, I did cook a meal on a drum stove during power failure. No Electric for 2 weeks, bad ice storm. It was good. Cooked breakfast and all meals.

Plus open the oven door to put out some heat … unless you are using it for baking. 🙂

@@burgamister5827 You are absolutely correct. A lot of people don’t realize the water container is duel use, humidity, hot water for cleaning. That’s why there’s a Spicket on the side. The entire stove is a masterpiece 💗
